My wife and I enjoyed the pleasure of the owners of Kwalata Wilderness, Reinhard and Caroline and baby Olivia for a few days in March when we took advantage of an offer for a family visit to the lodge. The people are just the most accommodating you could imagine and the place is a magic getaway within hours of Pretoria. Especially interesting is the fact that while the lodge offers eco "type" tours of the property and the wildlife, Reinhard is an experienced hunter who can tell the interested guest how game farming, hunting and wildlife conservation all fit together in the real world. We look forward to the next visit!

Karen Blixen wrote the book "My Africa". For me Kwalata Wilderness became My Africa, - it was my first African experience in 2005, since then I have been there four times and I will most probably go there in the future. The reason is obvious,- in this area you find a wide diversity of species and also a full range of different terrains, form the typical thornbush veldt to demanding mountainous areas and the trophies are of top quality. I have had the pleasure to stay in all of the three camps, - "Bushmans Hide" , "Zingela" and "Valamanzie". They are all different and have their own specific atmosphere and character but all of outstanding standard and quality. Valamanzie is spaceous and suits families and big groups and is beautifully situated by the dam. Zingela is very intimate and actually my favorite. Bushmans Hide with its specifc history and character gives you a feeling of staying out in the veldt. I love them all!
The PHs and trackers are really professionals and they all do their outmost to give you an experience for life and a top trophy. The catering and service in the camps are of top quality and the staff is friendly, honest and they all do their best for you to feel wellcome.
There is just one problem,- you have to come back!!

We - four friends of mine and me - booked a 7 days hunting safari on Kwalata for October 2010. I only can say it was a great ecperience! We where picked up from Johannesburg airport by very nice professional hunters, and we drove together to Kwalata. All the staff was very professional and friendly. The lodge was great, the accomodations clean and with lot of space. The hunting was exiting, we saw a lot of game, but it was not easy to come to a good shot - it was challenging. The professional hunters and trackers where very professional. We had a lot of fun in the evenings with good meals and drinks.
Just an experience we never will forget!

December 2010 was my second visit to Kwalata Wilderness, and I will go back. Our hosts/owners Caroline and Reinhart were fantastic, the atmosphere is very relaxed but if you need something someone is always around willing assist. You have the choice of 2 Lodges Zingela which is idea for larger groups the accommodation and lapa are build in a circle, cozy and social. this time we (2 Adults) stayed at Valamanzi which has a communal lapa which includes the indoor dinning area and bar. The accommodation is made up of timber log units with private decks looking over the dam.The units are well equipped for self catering including a private braai area. We spent many an afternoon lounging around the popping in for a cool off. The game viewing was good, the quad bike rides fantastic and the fishing challenging (2 good size Bass caught on the last day). There is no cell phone reception which might be challenging for some but I loved not hearing that "Nokia" ringtone.

We were a party of 6 that went to stay at Kwalata for 3 nights and absolutely loved every minute of it. Though we visited over the off season each and every member of staff made us feel welcome, comfortable and like valued customers. We stayed at the Valamanzi accommodation which is right on the water with a balcony, 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. It was very clean and beautifully furnished. The main area had a gorgeously unique fire pit in it where we all sat when it rained outside and was even equipped with an inside braai/bbq area. We were over whelmed with the amount of activities offered, we went hunting, on safaris, quad biking, clay shooting and canoeing, nothing was too big of an ask and all the staff were very laid back and helpful.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a bush oasis full of character, comfort, animals and friendly staff.

My family and I get to go to some awesome places in the Limpopo bushveld. We discovered Kwalata this weekend. The place is an Eden. The staff very friendly. We had such a good time. Thank you Oba, Louise, and Eric for sharing your pride with us this weekend. Oh. And your endless hospitality. We will be back soon.

Kwalata Wilderness captures you the moment you arrive and does not want to let go.
The setting is like nothing I have seen before. Worth the drive from Johannesburg.
My wife booked the entire place for my birthday celebration with close friends.
The chalets are overlooking a river and are connected by wooden walkways. We asked for a game drive which turned out to be a great fun despite not seeing much wildlife.
We swam in the river, enjoyed wine and good food and we wished we'd booked this extraordinary place for at least two weeks. Thank you Kwalata team for awesome birthday!

After looking for about 6 months for a wedding venue we found Kwalata Wilderness... we fell inlove with the perfect setting and tranquil atmosphere. Little did we know that our dream wedding would be more then we ever dreamed off as Caroline, Reinhardt en their team made absolutely 100% sure that our guests were looked after and went out their way to accomodate our needs and wants. They handled difficult situations (and the difficult bride and mother of the bride) with ease and patience and big problems became small hickups. I can not be more thankful for their efforts on our amazing bush wedding weekend, and we will surely visit them again and again.....

if you are looking for a quite time away from the concrete jungles & noise this is the place. the game drives are long enough to let you unwind in the mist of nature and enjoy a cold drink of whatever while scouting for the animals among the bushes................seeing the rhinos was the best part of our game drive and witnessing an ostrich releaving it's self was classic and was the first time i saw a python drinking water
