Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This property has an unusual setup: two different hotel brands under the same roof. The east wing is Mainstay Suites; the west wing is Sleep Inn. We stayed in the Mainstay wing for a week; then we booked a Sleep Inn stay only to find out it was just down the hall!
Pros: clean rooms, comfortable beds. The Mainstay Suites have a kitchen with a full-sized fridge/freezer; microwave and a hotplate (a nice addition we wish more hotels would have available). Breakfast (included with the room price) was very good and the menu changed daily. All throughout our stay, all the staff was super nice and accommodating.
Cons: the desk chairs! We stayed in different rooms and the desk chairs were the same in each - couldn't adjust the height or lock the back upright. I had to use 3 pillows (sat on 2, 1 for lumbar support) to get work done on my computer and minimize back discomfort. If you're traveling for business and working out of your room, this is a big deal. The only other negative was the wifi; it timed out at various times during the day (usually 2 or 3) requiring one to login again. Most hotels you only have to log in once per day max. I got bumped out of a video conference and during a webcast because of this. Management really needs to have their IT folks address this.
All in all a good stay, but when we return to Sarasota for an extended business stay it will probably be somewhere else due to those stupid chairs. Very unfortunate because outside of the chairs and wifi, we loved this place.

Nothing fancy, but really nice. Convenient. I just wish they wouldn't have sprayed so many perfumed chemicals (my common gripe with most hotels, though some places lay it on a little thick and this place was on the thick side, I wish there was a cleaning/disinfecting process that wasn't so caustic- maybe someday they could switch to more basic liquids like vinegar and rubbing alcohol, neither leave as horrible a burning sensation on the humble traveler.).

When we arrived at the hotel to check in, the front desk employee didn’t even greet us. She simply looked at us and said, “Check in? Last name.” While she wasn’t rude, her demeanor was very cold.
As soon as we entered room 509, we were hit with a bad odor, like dog urine, and noticed a large stain on the carpet ((added picture). I went back downstairs to complain, and unfortunately, the same unwelcoming employee was there. She responded by suggesting that the smell might be due to a leak from the ceiling. I explained that there was no leak, just a significant stain on the carpet, but she said there was nothing that could be done. To make matters worse, around 11:30 p.m., the noise started—people laughing loudly, sounding drunk, a TV at maximum volume. You could hear everything happening in the next room, thanks to the terrible soundproofing. The noise continued until 4 a.m., and we had a miserable night. We didn’t even bother going back downstairs to complain again, knowing it would be a waste of time with the same staff member.
I will never stay at the Magnolia Pointe Hotel in Sarasota NEVER again.

My husband and I enjoyed 5 days at this location as one of our stops during our recent trip to Florida. Our suite was very clean and comfortable and had a full kitchen equipped with a fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot plate, pots/pans, dishes and cutlery. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning prepared by the wonderful Rosie and J.R. who greeted us daily. I would definitely recommend this MainStay Inn to others visiting Sarasota.

We just checked out of Mainstay Suites I-75 Sarasota this morning, after a two night stay.
We arrived early to the hotel and were able to check in early - no doubt due to current events. Check in was easy and staff were super friendly.
Linens were clean and crisp. Plenty of pillows. Mattress was comfortable.
Our room was clean, spacious, and well equipped. There was a hot plate with a sauce pan (we didn’t use), along with a drawer storing: pot holders, measuring spoons, cups, spatulas, and silverware. A microwave. A coffee pot. And an apartment sized refrigerator/freezer.
The bathroom was clean. Large counter space. Nice glass shower with AMAZING water pressure. Only thing I found annoying is they only supply you with 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, and 2 washcloths. I had to ask for extra towels both days.
Breakfast was good; coffee was great with all the creamer, flavored creamers, honey, sugar, add ins you need. Everyday hot breakfast was different and good. Bagels, English muffins, toast available. Along with cereal, pastries, fruit, and yogurt.
The pool was nice. Warm. Loved that it was a “shoreline” walk in style - great for kids. Plenty of lounge chairs.

Went for vacation with my 2 girls ages 7 and 10 and husband. Spacious rooms with comfy beds. Suite had a mini kitchen with a hot plate burner which is a plus when traveling with kids. Hotels is close to highway and about 20 minutes from Siesta key beach. Lots of restaurants near by. Breakfast was very good every morning and different selections. Thanks to JR breakfast host every morning made our day. He also gave us tips about going to Celery fields and Big Cat Habitat. Nice pool. Highly recommend!

We stayed in a suite for one night. It was extremely comfortable and impeccably clean. Our room had a jacuzzi tub which was so relaxing! Everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we belonged. The free breakfast was a perfect way to start our morning before we headed out. There was a huge selection of food and drinks. I would recommend Mainstay to all my friends and family when they are in the area.
