My family of 6 (including 4 teens) rented a home in the Villa Lago community of Sandestin. We had never stayed in Sandestin before, so everything was totally new to us. We choose this location because some of our kids don't like the beach, and we thought it would be nice to have other activities readily available to them. It worked out perfectly. Our house was huge, modern, and spotless. The landscaping throughout the entire resort is gorgeous, and the condition of most public places was great too. We knew that places are struggling with workers, so we decided to check-in at 10 pm, and it was a breeze...just tell the guard at the gate, they give you a parking pass, and then enter the house through the keycode from the app. We had a beautiful golf course view, 2 golf carts, and 2 bikes for our use. We used the golf carts to go to the beach, Baytowne Wharf, the marina, and the attached upscale shopping center called Grand Boulevard, which also contains a Publix grocery store. The teens also explored Jolee Island, the docks, and the nature trail. The golf carts were fun and easy to use. After staying all along the Gulf Coast over the years, I will say that the beaches in the Destin/Sandestin/30A area can't be beat...the water here was crystal clear and gorgeous during our entire stay and the sand is so soft and white. Now, why did I give only 4 stars, then? Well, I LOVE to go to the beach, and THIS beach was packed. Miserably packed. I mean, there were rental chairs and umbrellas 6 and 7 rows deep and literally side by side! The beach is also labeled "private", so there is only a limited space (maybe the size of a football field) for Sandestin property guests like us...and there are a LOT of guests at the main resort. Luckily, we carried our own chairs and umbrellas and due to law, the first few feet of the beach can't be considered "private", so we were able to set up close to the water. We didn't realize this the first day, and sat so far back behind the 6 rows of packed chairs that you wouldn't even know you were at the beach. It was crazy, and hopefully not typical. People were generally friendly and seemed to get along as well as possible, considering we were packed like sardines. I read the bad reviews posted from the last month, and I'm sure many concerns are legitimate, but some of the comments were simply a case of someone not reading the information and expecting too much during an unusual summer. If you want a golf cart, you rent one with a golf cart...it was stated in our paperwork. If you expect to checkin right at 4, you're living in the past. We did a road trip earlier this summer out west and learned that nothing is operating as normal....show some grace. As far as property conditions, only rent from a place that states it's showing you the exact rooms you rented (like our rental did) OR a place where all rooms are the same....otherwise, it's a risk as to the condition. As far as staffing, I could certainly see that there may have been issues, because we seldom saw marked security or cleaning crews, etc....but again, it's an unusual year for everyone in hospitality throughout the country. Random tips for staying at Sandestin: If you like ice cream, visit MooLaLa at Baytowne Wharf...their staff was simply outstanding. They were quick and polite and the place is completely remodeled and adorable. The free fireworks on Tuesday nights in the summer are worth seeing...and see them with a crowd on the main lawn at the Baytowne Wharf with a live DJ. It's worth it. If you can get a place with a golf cart, DO IT. It is so easy to get around AND to park with a golf cart...even on packed nights at Baytowne Wharf. The tunnel for golf carts to go under busy Highway 98 is easy to access and use....it's just to the east of the main security gate. The beach is a nightmare, though. You park in any lot near the "Beach House" restaurant, which has a huge sign on it that you can't miss. You enter on the path to the RIGHT side of the "Beach House." As soon as you enter the beach, you will see the chair rental hut....they rent 2 chairs and umbrella by the day or week. Expect LONG lines there in the morning. I live in a town with tons of roundabouts, but many of the guests here look like they had never seen one. Be prepared to use the roundabouts at the two main intersections. The marina is a great spot to hang out and get a drink and just relax. Don't miss it. Oh, and try to meet Mary Jane. Overall, we had a great stay and would consider staying again. The only reason we wouldn't stay is because the beach is just too small for the number of people at the resort. When I posted pics on social media last night, that was also the number one complaint of friends who had stayed there too.

Almost all positive, beachside condo was great location. Beautiful view of the gulf, water is crystal clear and emerald green. Included bike rentals, kayak rental and tennis. Went to play miniature golf one night on the property and it closed at 7pm, not great. Long line to check in. Overall very good, nice place

I cannot describe to you what a pitiful experience we had at this “resort” last week. In summary: • We drove for hours and hours to arrive on time so that we could check in at the time you stated we could at 4pm. This would allow my family of 6 to have time at the beach on day one. Instead, we weren’t given our location until after 6pm. For the troubles I was assured we would get a 15% discount for that night which I doubt I will see on my final bill. • Our 1st condo wasn’t anything close to what was advertised on your website for 3 bedrooms!!! We were shocked to see we did not have a bay water view (no water view at all) and we didn’t have a large deck patio overlooking water. Instead, we got a very small patio with a small table facing a bunch of bushes!! • Condo 290 was 30 years outdated. • 20 year old coffee maker • 80s appliances • 80s shower faucets • Blinking light in the master bathroom • Not a single ceiling fan in the entire condo (who doesn’t have fans in Florida!!!??) • Not a single dishtowel in the entire place • No trash bags after the TWO we were given • Tiny, tiny bars of soap for the showers • We didn’t have a working dishwasher • Washer and Dryer was missing a knob • Dryer didn’t dry • Not a single throw pillow on any coach • Wifi didn’t work at all • Master bed was 20 years old and every time you barely moved in rocked back and forth to the point where my wife slept on the couch! • No railing on the wall with very steep stairs My biggest gripe??!!! NO GOLF CART!!! And no way to rent one!!!! Who in the heck would come to a GOLF RESORT or own a condo at a GOLF RESORT and not have a golf cart for their guests!!?!?!? And how in the heck does your resort not have a way in order for their guests to rent one???? Therefore, we had to rent a 2nd condo (Bayou 610) that had a golf cart just so that we could have one to get around in all week. Which means we basically paid for an additional condo that we did not need!!! Finally, to top it off, the front desk manager thought I meant we wanted to relocate/downsize to the 2nd condo so she cancelled our first condo in the system on the 28th….when I clearly said I wanted AN ADDITIONAL CONDO WITH A GOLF CART! That meant our room cards stopped working at 6pm on Wednesday night and we had to be at a wedding reception that night at 7pm!! The entire purpose of our trip was that reception which we ended up being late to!!! Oh yea, and that golf cart I had to pay condo pricing for? It left us stuck without power twice during 2 ½ days time. Lasted about 2 hours tops. What a joke. I will never stay here again. Your service was terrible. Never compensated for any of this hassle either. The “owner” of this condo (if there is one) should be told to update it or it won’t be rented any more, and you practice false advertising with your pictures and descriptions online!!!

The Resort is always a pleasure. The fitness center’s instructor Kristina is a gem! Even during Covid she taught via zoom! I believe she still keeps that as an option for those who don’t want to have too much exposure. Can’t say enough about her and the entire experience I always have at Sandestin Resort.

Kristinas body shape and cardio classes are top notch. She is professional, knowledgeable and motivates everyone. She is always upbeat and very welcoming. She adapts the classes so you can go at your own pace. My husband and I love her classes.
