lots of renovations. many buildings being remodeled with new beds and furniture that is clearly visible through the open blinds. Bungalows on the water seemed nice but I bet are pricey. Place was nice, clean, and well groomed beachfront. Perfect spot to view the MK fireworks. Ohana and Kona Cafe are OPEN. Downstairs the art store has since been closed and turned into a DVC sales center but the Polynesian shop is still open. Lobby seemed as though nothing has changed but the monorail and great ceremonial hall is still being worked on the exterior. all in all great time

In full disclosure, The Polynesian is our home resort. We were thrilled to arrive yesterday to fully updated rooms! The carpeting is brand new. The wall decor is fresh. We are in Pago Pago and it is the quietest out of all the buildings. Disney , you out did yourselves!!

My stay at the Polynesian last week was a wonderful experience and all I could hope for. Warm, helpful cast members from reception on (thank you Miss Sheila and Mr. Eddie!) and a true Disney experience that is meant to transport you from the everyday to the magical. Newly redone Moana-themed room was beautiful -- fresh, comfy, with lovely decorations of Moana, Maui and their world. The bed was so comfortable, the lighting just right, large screen on the wall with local channel playing Disney music while showing you what's going on. Lush tropical landscaping makes you feel as though you are in Hawaii or Polynesia, which is the whole idea! Boy do they do it right. The Oasis pool (the quiet pool) was just that and so restful. Water temp perfect. Captain Cook's coconut meatballs! The Kona Cafe! The ease of the monorail, taking you right to the Magic Kingdom! I could go on! It had been a while since my son and I stayed at the Poly and I was so grateful to find that it was still beautiful, still wonderful, and probably even better. Thanks to all cast members! I will not wait as long for a return visit!

First let me say the remodel of the Polynesian is gorgeous! I'm a big fan of Moana and they've done an amazing job with just the right amount of decor representing the movie. I loved the new carpet and panels in the hallways, the light fixtures and art in the rooms and the wallpaper. We had a ground floor room in the Hawaii building and the lobby area there in pretty amazing. I included a photo of us having a light snack there. I've been taking my sons to Disney at least once a year since 1990 and staying in the Polynesian on most of those trips. We've done it since the kids could actually swim in Seven Seas Lagoon! So we know what it used to look like on the grounds, at Captain Cooks and in the Great Ceremonial House. I know some changes were inevitable and necessary. The Castmembers were the biggest change this year. It seemed the Disney Magic was missing. We aren't wealthy but we splurged on our family vacations. We stayed here because of the magic. We were treated like royalty, everything was perfect from the moment we checked in. That's not the feel we had on this latest vacation. It's hard to justify the cost of staying at the Poly when the quality of service is the same as non-Disney stays. We weren't greeted, we weren't given leis. We paid bell services to deliver our groceries to our room and they forgot all of the cold items. We understood that Mousekeeping was not done every day, but the quality of Mousekeeping was not up to par. I couldn't believe we had to ask for trashbags. When the bags were changed, the bags weren't even put in the trashcan, but just laid over the side. I was sadly disappointed.

Stayed here in May 2021 for 5 nights over Mother's Day weekend in one of the DVC studios. None of the DVC rooms had been re-done at this point and the hotel rooms were still all closed. So on the positive the resort was very quiet. You don't need to be a DVC member to rent DVC but it will be cheaper than when you rent via WDW's web site. I sent in my room requests via Disney's site since we booked direct through them and sent some in through touringplansdotcom. You know, I will never learn but this is like the 7th time I have sent in room requests but nope... didn't get 'em. They are just requests so it doesn't really matter. Moving on.... we had a studio in Tokelau. We had stayed at Portifino Bay at Universal before we came here, so when we checked in here we arrived at 7am to drop our bags off before we went on to Animal Kingdom. We had no illusions our room would be ready then but we hoped maybe by the time we came back in the afternoon they would have something. Make a plan, make G-d laugh. Check in time is supposed to be 4pm. We did not get a room until after 5:30. When I reminded the check in area that check in time was supposed to be at 4pm the woman there was kinda nasty and tried to tap dance around that and say it was really 5pm. Actually, if you Google Polynesian's check-in time EVERY SINGLE listing says it's 3pm but who cares because we didn't get a room until after 5:30 after dropping our bags off at 7am. We had some back to the hotel at 1pm, saw there was no room, went to Magic Kingdom at 2pm, came back at 4pm and then we watched other people get their room after room while we kept being told we didn't have one. I don't know if it was because they were actually DVC members vs we were booked through Disney's site but I'll tell you this: I'm never booking DVC through Disney again. I'm gonna leave that alone though because that doesn't matter anymore. You want to know about the studio. I do like the 2 bathrooms. I claimed the one with the nice shower as "mine". Toaster, microwave, fridge. Beds are nice. We had a ground floor unit. I had requested 3rd floor but you know the thing about requests. We were lucky to even get a room. The room STUNK, I could tell whoever had it before us smoked in it. But I didn't dare complain because it took so long to even get a room to begin with. The rooms are very, very dark. I ended up using the flashlight function on my phone a lot. There was 2 lights out in the room which added to the darkness but I didn't call to get them fixed because I didn't want to add to my problems here. I'm very happy they are redoing these rooms now, I'm sure they are fixing all the problems I'm listing. The resort was under construction but I knew that going in so it didn't bother me. I did use the laundry room when I was here, it's nice. Loved Capt. Cooks. Tambu lounge was horrible, went 3 times and had bad service all 3 times. Treated me like trash and I really do not understand why. I tipped 30%, I have an American Express Platinum card so you know I'm not poor, I wasn't being rude or making crazy requests. I will never know why but for some reason, Tambu just felt like every time they saw our family they should treat us like garbage. Ohana wasn't open yet, trying to get reservations for next visits. The pool was REALLY nice. The boat transportation was really good too! My son really liked one of the captains who was cracking jokes. Most of the bus transportation was good aside from one nutty Epcot driver who felt the need to "educate" the passengers about why he feels Biden is evil. That was an interesting ride. I love my 7 year old son for loudly exclaiming when we got off that bus, "WHAT'S THAT GUY'S PROBLEM?". Autism and the lack of volume control on kids is sometimes not the worst thing. Every time I've come to Polynesian before this one, I've told myself I wanted to stay here. I didn't get the "true" Poly experience but I will try again in the hotel side in the future. If you've been to Hawaii before, REAL Hawaii, you know how friendly and kind they are. I didn't get that here. I think my mistake was booking the DVC. While I did like the 2 bathrooms and the fridge, toaster and microwave, my poor check-in experience coupled with the awful experienced at Tambu just made this not the best trip. I've made Disney my Mother's Day place since my Mom passed, if I can't have her I at least want to have the most magical place on earth. We are coming back very soon but staying at the Grand Floridian because Poly wasn't available. Since Poly is so walkable, we will probably walk over and visit Capt. Cooks again. While my trip did have some hiccups, I think most of them are things that Disney is working out. The DVC rooms are being upgraded. I love the bread pudding but I will never go back to Tambu. Hopefully I will get reservations at Ohana but if not, I still love Kona and Capt. Cooks. And maybe the check in people I dealt with were just having a bad day. Hopefully in the future when we come back, my rating will improve. My love for Disney will never die.
