Canalside Inn provided a lovely stay. All the extra amenities made it a memorable place you want to come back every year. The treatment of our dog was like one of the family with floor pillow, blankets & dish. The staff is there if you need them and are so nice and helpful. If you want privacy- you get that too with easy checkin & checkout!
Really lovely place and super quiet. They took great care of our dogs. Super central to everything and very cute. I highly recommend it. We will be back again. We came for a night when we saw the weather was going to be warm and just wanted to get out of DC and take walks on the beach.
All I have to say is, THIS HOTEL IS HORRIBLE,I say so because I stayed in the king room and well…. It did not look as how I expected it…….. So there was hair on the headboard of the bed, stains we could not remove, and a thin wall.We could hear people from the pool!Do NOT come here.
I have stayed at many hotels in Rehoboth Beach and have traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.. This was by far my worst hotel experience EVER. The room was much smaller than the pictures lead us to believe. On entering the room, we noticed a very distinct, strong, wet-dog smell. On closer inspection, there was hair behind the headboard and elsewhere and the room was in less than stellar condition. The straw that broke the camel's back was disgusting linens. We decided at that point that we were not staying. We did call the owner who came and saw the linens, which he replaced(thanks but too late!). As to the smell, he denied that there was any smell. I guess his nose isn't functioning very well, or my entire family are liars. Anyway, despite the horrid experience, the owner would not budge on even the smallest of refunds. We had booked two nights and I requested a one night refund due to the horrible condition of the room. NOPE. You had better hope you don't need to deal with him if you stay at this hotel. He calls himself "Doctor" when talking to guests. Really? Go ahead and book... you'll see!!! Here is a big clue - When a hotel will not give a refund, NO MATTER WHAT, you know you are dealing with some shysters. I guess the dog will just have to stay at the sitter from here out.…
My pup Koda and I really enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and the inn is close to the boardwalk and shopping. The room is beautifully decorated and at the quiet end of the street we slept very well! Planning another visit for next year!
Gotta say we REALLY wanted to love this place but I/we have been coming to RB for over 25 years and have stayed in 11 of the hotels in RB. This was the first time at the Canalside Inn and unfortunately, we will be booking elsewhere next time. To start, the majority of snacks that were placed in a basket in the room and for sale (VERY pricey) were outdated....some of the snacks it seems were in the room PRE-COVID. The popcorn which costs $3.00 expired in August of 2020, the majority of the other overpriced snacks had also expired months before. There was dust on all of the surfaces (luckily, we had some cleaning supplies and took it upon ourselves to dust the room prior to unpacking). We found the cover to the light over the bed in the night stand drawer, and the light bulb was out. Didn't the Room Attendant see the cover in the draw (or the expired dates on the snacks) when she cleaned? Maybe not since the inside of the draw was also filled with dust. The shower has a rain shower style head and is therefore installed on the ceiling, because of the way the nozzle is positioned (cannot be adjusted because of location) and the 2–3-inch gap between the shower floor and very flimsy shower curtain (see pic), the entire bathroom floor gets wet and VERY slippery and DANGEROUS when you use the shower. Additionally, there is a sign over the sink stating that if the towels are stained the guest will be charged??? Really??? Never saw this in any other hotel in Rehoboth or anywhere else for that matter. When I am staying in a room that costs $250+ I don't want to have to worry that if I get a stain on a towel from a spill or whatever, that I am going to have to pay for the towel. I would think that a stained towel is the COST OF DOING BUSINESS. There is one OVERSIZED chair with stained upholstery in a very small room. If there are 2 people one has no place to sit, and there is no table or desk in case you had to do work or wanted to eat in the room. There wasn't a microwave (or coffee maker) in the room, although the pictures on the website show a microwave in the standard king room. We checked in on Friday and on Saturday we received a text from the hotel asking about our stay. We relayed the information above via text and within 5 minutes the owner of the hotel called my cell phone and attempted to address each issue. He did apologize about the snacks, said it was an oversight and he would speak to housekeeping, and said they could be swapped out. No thanks not paying $3.00 for a bag of popcorn that cost less than $1.50 at the Royal Farms. This wasn't a onetime oversight...I would bet the cost of my stay that every room was exactly the same, with the majority of snacks being expired....NO ATTENTION TO DETAIL. The owner NEVER addressed the shower. As for the furniture, I was told that the hotel was taking a minimalist approach because of COVID and that the owners would prefer that guests eat in the outside seating area. Also, the reason there is only one chair in the room, is because the owners found that guests would move the furniture and hurt themselves in the process. REALLY??? First of all, it was cold out, but REGARDLESS if a PAYING GUEST wants to bring food back from a restaurant and eat a warm meal in their room, instead of having to be uncomfortable in the cold and have the food get cold outside, they should be able to do that (what happens if it’s raining?) IT IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE AT ANY OTHER HOTEL at the beach. If they did not want people to eat in the room and there was no space for that, it should have been STIPULATED prior to making the reservation. Possibly in the same place where they should have mentioned there were no longer microwaves in the room AS ADVERTISED/PICTURED As for the excuse about guests hurting themselves while moving the furniture...I would be more worried about the shower and slippery DANGEROUS bathroom floor.... which again was NEVER addressed. Lastly, the minimalist approach/COVID was the excuse for not having a microwave in the room. However, it would be just as easy to disinfect and wipe down the microwave as it is for them to (supposedly) clean the remote control for the TV (which is not covered in "changeable plastic" for protection during COVID, as was the case in 2 other hotels where we have stayed). If the room is NOT AS ADVERTISED/PICTURED, then let the guest know that before the reservation is made! THAT IS NOT THE END! On Sunday morning we received a text asking us to rate the stay...I gave it a 2 out of 5. In less than 5 minutes BEFORE 9:30 IN THE MORNING, my wife and I hear a VERY LOUD/STERN knock on the door. After asking who it was, we hear "It's the owner I want to have a discussion with you about your rating" needless to say it was quite disturbing. When we declined, he persisted to knock and ask again? At this point all we wanted to do was leave the hotel as we felt frightened, uncomfortable, and harassed. If I knew he was going to respond in this manner I would have disregarded the text or responded after we checked out. It was VERY DISCONCERTING!! The last straw was when we had to call the hotel to request a copy of our bill. We did not want to stop at the desk when we left. The owner had already harassed us when he persisted at knocking on our door even after we made it CLEAR that we did NOT want to discuss the review. Since e didn't want to risk the chance of having an encounter with an owner who seemed overly aggressive, upset ,and confrontational because of a negative review, we left without an invoice (in most places a copy is placed under the door). I thought that the owner would have removed the $50 early check-in fee that was charged (and is pure profit) as a courtesy for our overpriced disappointing stay. When I saw it wasn't removed, I expressed my disappointment and said I would proceed with my negative reviews to which I received another text that included this: "it is deeply regrettable that you choose to threaten us with negative reviews. We are a husband and wife team who do our very best to delight every guest. We treat everyone with respect and spread love to all. With hope, you will see that we made every effort to make your stay better. " It is our understanding that it is a consumer's right to give a negative review.... it’s not a threat, and the fact that they saw it that way.... speaks volumes!! They did nothing to try and improve our stay, except offering us the option of having fresh overpriced snacks placed in our room. It doesn't matter to me if they are a husband and wife or a major corporation, we all have a story! In fact, I have one too, as this was a trip my parents gave to my wife and me, because we are both front line workers who have been working full time and in person since the Pandemic started in March of 2020 (when the popcorn was still good). My parents wanted us to have a special weekend. Our experience at the Canalside Inn was BY FAR the WORST trip we EVER had to Rehoboth...but we won’t tell my parents that.... they got a GREAT review......lies are sometimes needed. Lastly, I’m assuming the part in the text from the owners saying "we treat everyone with respect and spread love to all", was in reference to the fact that we are lesbians. Feeling the need to express that sentiment begs the following question to be asked: Who are you trying to convince that you actually possess those qualities? A - us or B - yourselves....We're going with B!…
We were so pleased with the amenities of this place with having a dog! It was a perfect choice for our first trip with our puppy. He felt right at home. Wish it was closer to the boardwalk but is a few minute car ride.
Rooms were a nice size for the price. Spacious and nice view. Our only complaint was the neighbors next door were loud at times, yelling at eachother. Other than that minor detail, we had a nice time and the space was very nice. We intend to return. Inn keeper was especially hospitable upon arrival.
Canalside Inn is our go-to destination whenever we travel to Rehoboth Beach. This was the first time we travelled with our eight month old lab puppy, and to say that the hotel is "dog friendly" is an understatement. The staff went above and beyond to make our pup feel welcome, including placing a dog bowl in the room. For non-dog owners, fear not; our room had no signs of dog wear, including being fresh smelling and hair free upon our arrival! We had a happy coincidence this trip, in finding out that we have a mutual friend with the owner Bryan, and Bryan went out of his way to deliver a special gift of cakes/cannoli and champagne sent by our friend. This place is the epitome of the kind of service you get with a local owner who puts his heart and soul into making his gets feel welcome and happy. …
I do not know who gave a five star rating to this hotel, I would not give any. My husband made a reservation for a few days, but it was so awful we have to leave the hotel earlier. It was impossible to stay, because of numerous things but especially the very poor service. Of course, the owner did not compensate us for the miserable experience, even it was not our fault. Everything that the owner promised us was the exact opposite. He is a dishonest man. We were shocked at the beginning when we first opened the door to the room. The room and bathroom were very small, not at all like in the photo that the owner showed us. There was someone's hair in the bathroom sink. No beautiful view from the window as promised. The walls are very thin, you can hear everything in the next room. When neighbors opened their door, the door to the room shakes. I was awakened many times during the night. Also, we thought that there was construction going on, because it was very noisy. It was impossible to lie down to rest. No coffee machines, no kitchen, but small refrigerator and microwave in the closet. It is impossible to use the toilet without an adventure, because it moves. I thought I would fall off. The shower works on the principle of umbrella, it sprays around you, but do not on your body. Priced like a 5-star hotel, quality like a 1-star. Our vacation was ruined, we has such a horrible time. Beware! This is the second time I have left this review. My first one was deleted.…
