I have had the misfortune of having to stay at this hotel for business. It needs a lot of attention especially the bathrooms, that are very much in the need of upgrading esp. the showers. Most of the staff are very friendly. During my stay there were a lot of people from a government department staying there for a work shop. They were very noisy and not caring about the other guests staying in the hotel. the hotel needs a lot of money spent on it to get it up to scratch

Although a lot has been done by means of renovations the hotel just does not make the grade. Breakfast is great and they have a lovely little pub but something just seems to be lacking. Being a good stretch out of town does little to liven the place up

The hotel is OK but a bit off and not newly renovated. Comfortable beds but lousy or broken hairdryers. I missed a hand shower as I don't want to wash my hair every day.

Breakfast also OK but too much sweeties and no vegetabels.

What a disaster.

Here are only a few of my issues.... and I only stayed there for 2 nights (thank heavens).

Didn't get any sort of reception or help with luggage when we arrived (although other guests got preferential treatment but I would rather not go into this).

Got handed a card and when I entered "my room" someone else was already living there.... how many times does this happen?

Ordered room service and had to call back 4 times to enquire when it would arrive and it took hours.

The safe in my room was broken.

The only lift was out of order.

Breakfast was not served on time - we participated in an Ironman event without a breakfast due to them not delivering what they promised.

The hotel in general is filthy. Walked into the kitchen (yes you are not allowed but I went in to sterilise baby bottles) and it was appalling. Would never eat there!! It was truly disgusting.

Staff struggles to understand basic English.

In general everything that could go wrong did go wrong here. I enquired about the above with the manager and he just said sorry we will look into the "incident" and that was the end of that. I could tell they did not take me serious.

Before this I went to the reception and asked for the manager. The person on duty asked me why and I said I had a complaint. This person then asked what it was and I said I would rather explain to the manager himself. I was then told the manager would only come down if the issue was explained. I did explain the issues. After this the person called the manger and said "come down" without explaining anything to the manager??? It was like they are all curious but no one wants to take responsibility.

Seriously do not stay in this hotel. It was truly shocking. I have stayed in various hotels all over South Africa and this is the worst by far.

First, the hotel has no views of the beach, you can look at an ancient pool with it's tiles falling off, or the parking lot...there are no wi-fi extenders in the building, so unless you get a room within 5 meters of the routers, you will not have wi-fi, and even if you do, it certainly is not high speed, unless you are used to a 2600baud modem from 1989. Food in the restaurant is average. The AC in my room did not work, the TV seized to function after my 4th day, and the shower had mold growing on the walls. Morning showers were an adventure as the temperature went from cold to boiling hot constantly. As a business center, the hotel may have been grand during the age of typewriters in 1986; however, the electrical outlets can not support an automated conference. With this said, the staff was friendly, curteous and helpful, in fact the only saving grace for this hotel. I would NOT recommend this hotel!

This was the worst experience of my life at a Hotel and will encourage no one to book there! Arrived on the 1st of Jan. Staff very unprofessional and did not offer help with luggage and did not wear name badges. When we got to room, the card was not working, when we got in the room, the air conditioning was not working which I am 100% sure that they knew of before we got there and was just hoping that we would just except it...it was 30 degrees that day. The room was in very poor condition.. Old furniture with drawers that struggle to open. The carpet was so worn out that by the sliding door you could feel the nails on the edges stick through. There was also no information file in the room, just a menu on the table. After waiting we got a call to say that they do not have another room for us just a single bed room. We were a family of 3. I told him to see if he can make a plan with a sleeper couch and to let us view the other room, but he did not bother calling back. We waited for an extra hour in the very humid room before I decided to take my family and leave as we could not stay in these conditions for 3 nights. We had to drive 4 hours back home in the middle of the night as we could not get any other available accommodation that late in the evening anywhere. I cancelled the 3 night stay and as usual they would not except responsibility and refund me the penalty for the 1st day so I lost a lot of money also. Lesson learned. I would not encourage anyone to make the same mistake and book at the Summerstrand Hotel and go though what we had to. I would not stay there again even if it was for free!!

I love food, good food, healthy food, food made with love. The Summerstrand Hotel is not the place to find this, at least not if you are a vegetarian. While attending a meeting last week, I was served a plate of bland baby marrow, chunks of carrots, and cauliflower. My colleague, also a vegetarian, was worse off. He was told to dish the non-meat buffet options: rice, potatoes, cauliflower, and salad. What was most disconcerting was the restaurant manager's disinterest in our unhappiness. I hope that the hotel will update the chef's basic knowledge of the food pyramid so all meals will consist of vegetables, protein (animal or non-animal), some carbs, and healthy fats. More importantly, instill in staff a desire to please the palate of restaurant diners, whether carnivore or vegetarian.

After looknig at the website photos we were excited to stay here. Overlooking some of the poor feedback we were optimistic that this would meet if not exceed our expectations. How wrong we were. Rooms were old, disgusting, dirty with shower not draining and filling up with water, room full of sandflies/mozzies, dirty walls and drains, door to outside did not open or close properly and the family room we were in had a short couch like before our teen son. Upon arrival we actually went as far as to look for alternative accommodation and forgo our pre-payment just to stay somewhere else. Sadly there was a major event on and we were unable to find anywhere. The pool was green and unswimmable and does not look like the beautiful pictures. Food was average at best. There was nothing redeeming about this facility and we would neither visit again or recommend to anyone. Even the staff were disinterested and rude. Have traveled for many years and this would be one of the worst fo rus.

Stayed in the hotel for a few nights. The good points are : its quiet location as our bedroom gave onto swimming pool and hotel very close to the Summerstrand hub, friendly service, good quality cotton linens & towels. The bad points were coffee at breakfast was terrible...if you wanted 'proper' coffee you had to pay extra, the food available at the buffer was very average and expensive, the hotel needed a complete renovation, our room was fine but tired and there was mold in the shower cubicle. The service was also extremely slow: i ordered a cappuccino one morning, although i was the only one in the restaurant it took 30 minutes for the waitress to bring it to me. To be honest I am not sure I would want to stay there again if I went back to Summerstrand.

Absolutely Ghastly, unpleasant, horrible, shocking appalling. The website seemed amazing, but reality is a shock. Not only is it old and room smell. The service is deplorable. Location is a few hundred metres away from other locations, town. However was advise it was not safe to walk during the day. Would not recommend this place ti any one.
