The facilities in the Witteberg Nature Reserve are of the highest quality, and the reception very friendly. Just make sure that you do not use Google Maps or other GPS devices' directions whereby you can turn off the N1 via Touws River. You will eventually be told that you are only a few kilometers away from your destination - but this is a restricted road with no through passage - and you will have to go back all the way on your tracks!

Witteberg Nature Reserve was one of the few places that was pet friendly for our two dogs and one very old cat. Despite the long 40 km dirt road to get to the house, the road is well maintained. This made the drive pleasant even though we were feeling exhausted from hours of driving beforehand. We got to our destination much later than we had told our host, Frik. But he was there to welcome us with friendliness, and even helped us with our luggage. The house was perfect for our one night stay. It’s surrounded by nature, silence and peacefulness. The beds were very comfortable and were provided with all the linen that we needed. When you stay there, you forget that there is a buzzing world out there. It’s a simple but cozy abode, to which we’d love to return to some day.

A nice escape from everything and everyone. The host made me feel very welcome. The unit was big and so well ecuiped for a self catering unit. It was very clean and well organised. Sitting on the porch having a glass of wine looking at the mountains was so nice. A defnitly must experience place and will defnitly go back!!!

I had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the historic Kliphuis which takes you back in time. Just the lovely quiet sound of nature around. Good for the soul. The lovely assortment of Rotes and Fysbos make it all the worth while to explore.

The vastness and simplicity of the Karoo is not for everyone. But for my husband and I the Karoo is a magical place. Witteberg Nature Reserve as the icing on the cake. Thank you very much for a unforgettable weekend at the stone cottage. Service was great.

Witteberg NR is the ideal place for a peaceful breakaway from the world. Yes, the reserve is quite isolated and you get the feeling that you are worlds away from the cares and worries of life. For the more active, there are several walking trails. Otherwise you can explore by car or just chillax doing nothing. Frik is an ideal host and eager to share his knowledge of the original farm, Elandsfontein. He made us feel right at home from the moment he met us upon arrival. Will definitely return - this time with our dog as the place is pet friendly.

From the time we left the main tarred road in Laingsburg till the time we returned to the tar in Touws River, the trip was magical.
The accommodation and where it is situated is perfect; with the wide open spaces, wonderful rock formations. bird song and flora. Of course to see the stars in this unpolluted air was another magical part of our stay. Unfortunately, not having a 4X4 we were unable to take advantage of the 4X4 trails in the area, which look wonderful.
To have had time to spend with our host and be shown fossils from the area and be told the history of the area, was so interesting. We will definitely be back and have already recommended the place to a few of our friends.

We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Witteberg Nature Reserve. Although the accommodation cannot be classified as luxury, it was comfortable and more than met all our needs. The Witteberg Reserve is a place of wide open skies, towering mountains, silence and solitude. The hikes varied from easy to strenuous and each rewarded us with breathtaking scenery. Frik Linde went out of his way to provide excellent service, and to give us historical background on this beautiful reserve. If you're looking to get away from the bustle of city life and to recharge your batteries, this is a gem to treasure.

Witteberg Nature Reserve is a beautiful location, and the owner made us feel very welcome. The accommodation has everything you need, and is very comfortable, although there is no aircon so bring your own fan if it's hot! We were there in particular to see dark skies and stars, and were not disappointed, but the surroundings are stunning in the day time too.
