Detailed Reviews
The exterior is very nicely done with sufficient parking. Some of the cleanest rooms I have ever stayed in, although dated. Kitchen and dining room staff are very friendly and make you feel right at home, always ready to accommodate and make you feel at home during breakfast. The accommodation advertises "dinner", but on arrival you have an option between a STEERS or OK voucher. If they decided to create a Steers voucher and you preferred the OK then they are unable to change the voucher. We stayed 4 nights which made it really uncomfortable. They should rather remove the "dinner" from their adverts. But apart from that, no issues.

I was there for a couple of days and I enjoyed my stay, my room was clean and tidy. I had hot water with a shower and my little kitchen to warm your takeaways and you can make a cup of coffee or a cup of tea. while doing that you can connect to the wifi to check your emails, make whats app calls, or watch your favorite channels on DStv. my only downfall is that the bed and pillow were uncomfortably hard which kept me tossing and turning but maybe it's because I am only used to my bed at home.

The lodge needs to long term invest in a generator or solar panels for loadshedding.
Holders in bathroom eg. body wash needs to be refilled before guest check in.
I would suggest a complimentary bottle of still water is provided as standard. Tap water is undrinkable.

I was booked in for 3 nights at Lains Lodge and given one of the annex units. The arrangement was for dinner , bed & breakfast. When I checked in I was informed that I was to be given a voucher each night to which I could redeem at the local burger take away place (steers) - this was not acceptable as eating take aways for 3 nights is unpalatable and unhealthy.
The room itself disappointed. There was a big brown stain on the ceiling above the small kitchenette as I walked in. I also noticed that there were stains on the wall above the small stove that had not been cleaned in a while.
The bed linen was old slightly musty. The celling light above the bed was just the exposed bulbs with no light cover. When I went for a shower I noticed that firstly the towels provided were very old and one had a stain on it as well. The shower door was damaged and could not close properly resulting in a very wet bathroom floor.
The old aircon, when switched on was noisy and could not be used as it disturbed ones sleep.
I stayed the night as I arrived around 7pm but first thing in the morning I informed my office and arranged better accommodation as I could not spend another 2 nights in this sub-standard room

Our room was spotless on arrival. All necessary cutlery, crockery and utensils for self catering were supplied. The local grocery store is within a 2 minute walk from the premises. Secure parking was available outside the room. Bed was comfortable and furnishings pleasant. Staff were friendly, polite and very helpful.

Nice place in small town with good rooms and good beds. In town are only a few restaurants. There is a Wimpy and also KFC, but only one other restaurant of which the kitchen was closed, but owners were very helpful to supply us with meat for a braai. The Lodge has a braai area, but you have to take food , drinks and wood/blitz all with you yourself. We had problems with one of our motorbikes and the manager did all she could to help us. Excellent service!!!! Good breakfast.

The only real concern was that I could not arrange the evening before a breakfast pack as I would have liked to have breakfast earlier at your venue which was not possible. I needed to be on site at 7h30 so I could start my certification audit for BMS be on site at 8h00.
On the positive side good service from the guy at reception.

Most disappointed in the accommodation. I was shown a picture of a luxury room when I did my reservation but to my utter disappointment I was allocated a room which I would not even allow my servant to stay in. I queried this and I was shown a similar room except it was bigger and had more beds. No tiles on the floors, no chairs in room but just painted cement floors. I was given the impression that those were the only room type. The next morning I noticed another gate which was part of the same property and noticed the room on the picture which had a kitchenette, Aircond and decent floors. I booked what was described as a luxury room. I would have gladly paid extra if I was given the option but this room was not shown to me.

Response from George Christo Serfontein, Owner at Laings Lodge
Responded 06 Apr 2021
I'm really sorry for your disappointment but the room you are describing in your review doesn't sounds familiar to my in any way. I'm convinced you got confused between one of our rooms and another place where you might have stayed along the road. You did your reservation through Booking.com and the room which was booked through NightsBridge, on the system, was Room 12. You phone reception on the 25th to inform them that you've only booked for 1 guest and not for 2 guests and reception informed you that they will assist by booking the room for you (correctly). The only rooms which was available for the night was a family room and 3 twin rooms on the inside of the main building and another single room (the same as the one where you stayed for the night) on the outside of the main building. All our rooms have carpets in the room area and tile floors in the bathrooms/kitchen area. We don't have any rooms with painted cement floors. There is a chair / chairs in all our rooms - amount depends on the type of room. The room with the kitchenette is our self-catering rooms and they are all reserved for long term guests. They also have carpets in the room area and tile in the kitchen and bathroom areas. All our rooms have dstv, air-con, towels, hair dryer, microwave, fridge and kettle for tea & coffee facilities. We usually don't show rooms where other guests is staying already to guests who are checking in just now, we only show which is available.

The state of the room was poor. The carpets are stained, the walls have damp coming through and the electric plugs have rust stains around them. The empty swimming pool is an eyesore. The communal shower had no hot water. The only options for dinner are KFC, Wimpy or Steers which poses a major problem for those of us that do not eat anything from these outlets.
