We were a group of seven friends and we booked four rooms and stayed at the lodge. It blew our minds. The private swimming pool, beautiful views and sunrise, great kitchen and lounge facilities. Great bedding and linen.
One of my absolute favourite stays in the Karoo! Outstanding rooms with the best linen and feather duvets and pillows. Each self-catering cottage is appointed with a fireplace/braai, outdoor sink and prep area, single electrical hot plate, and crockery/cutlery and food prep implements. Note: this lodge has absolutely NO signal. We were not made aware of this and couldn't reach family in case of emergency.
Wagendrift Lodge is situated about 30 km outside of the town of Laingsburg. I was really surprised by the beautiful drive there - as you twist and turn through a breathtaking mountain range to get to the venue. We stayed in one of the self-catering lodges which boast a nicely decorated interior: you are spoiled with luxurious linen and a very comfortable double and 2 single beds. There is a small bathroom with toilet, hand basin and shower; the main area (which contains the 2 single beds) also has a fridge and 2 cabinets with all the crockery and cutlery one could need. But the real attraction is the deck which has a very clever layout and amazing view of the farm. However, for first time visitors who are unfamiliar with the layout of the farm (the actual lodge and pool, etc. are based further up), it can be an isolating experience. Yes, the idea is to have some down-time and get away from city life, but I think a pop-in by staff or by the host should be mandatory if not entirely just to orientate guests as to where everything is on the farm itself. Additional information such as there being NO cellphone signal, no WIFI, no television and no clean running water should be made explicit on the website. At R950 per night, you also might expect a soap and shampoo in the shower - a relief to tired travellers. I recommend Wagendrift Lodge, but be sure to pack in boardgames for the kids, at least 2 litres of clean water for brushing your teeth, insect repellent and a data dongle if needing to check-in with family.…
We stopped over on our way to Cape Town. Fabulous little cabins, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with all the mod cons you need to self cater (hot plate, microwave, utensils, fire wood) and a great braai area. Our toddler loved running around the lawn and visiting the goats and we all had a great night’s sleep. We will definitely return: maybe for a few nights next time to enjoy the hiking and activities. Thanks for a lovely stay!
I planed a weekend away with some of my friends to Wagendrift Lodge ... AND WE LOVED IT !!! It's a very quiet place where you can switch off your cellphone and connect with people for a change . We all stayed in the lodges with a amazing kitchen/braai area ( were we mostly where ) i would recommend everyone to go there for a weekend . It's a must , to go again .
