Value
Tsumkwe Country Lodge is the only accommodation facility on the Namibian side of this area that offers 22 well-appointed chalets with ensuite facilities in a rustic but, yet comfortable style. The 10 individual campsites are clean, has electricity and water points. Bundles of fire wood is available to buy at the lodge. Tsumkwe is situated less than 60 km west of Dobe border post to Botswana, and 256 km east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region. This small town or rather village is the administrative hub for approximately 600 inhabitants and the rest of the population that makes up +/- 3 500 inhabitants living in smaller villages on the periphery of Tsumkwe. Nyae Nyae Conservancy; meaning 'place without mountains, but rocky' was registered in 1998 with a view to conserve and protect this fragile area. It covers a protected area of 1 million hectares of unspoiled wilderness in the far East part of Namibia that borders Botswana. In proximity to the Nyae Nyae Pans and Khaudom National Park, Tsumkwe Country Lodge is an ideal adventurous starting point to reach the Zambezi (Caprivi) Region as well as Botswana via the Dobe border post to experience the famous Okavango-Delta. Tsumkwe is still a wilderness paradise, off the beaten track!

Lodge garden needs attention. Staff are friendly and helpful. Camping ablution were very clean, but in desperate need of maintenance, only one bathroom had hot water and according to other campers when opening the hot water, the tap gives you an electric shock, BUT the staff opened bungalows for us to use, very much appreciated!
We do recommend not to camp in Tsumkwe on a month end or weekend, the locals play very load music up to 3 O'clock in the morning (apparently no Covid-19 curfew). Unfortunately, nothing that the Lodge can do about it!
Hopefully al these problems are Covid related due to few visitors and will be sorted out, it is the perfect stop over before entering the Khaudum National Park

Some basics that need attention. Swimming pool is damaged and empty, and the toilets and showers need proper cleaning. Also, we were a large group (5 cars), and we were given one toilet and one shower, the rest were kept locked. When we raised this, we were given one of the rooms to use the facilities. Wood was also a problem.

Tucsin Tsumkwe Lodge is a lovely country lodge from where to explore the vicinity. The rooms and beds are comfortable. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to assist. Esther is a very good chef. Plumbing and washbasins, in rooms 3 and 4, need urgent attention, though. Small Boy is a very competent driver.

This lodge surprised us with its nice campsites all indiviually made up and with shady trees, electricity, water and braai area each as well as good ablution blocks.
The bar and restaurant is snall but so tasty, the small pool invites for a cooling swim.
Besides all this, we had a 3 course dinner that was very good and super friendly, supportive and perfect hosts! Thank you all so much for the tipp to visit Khaudum Nationalpark with its beautiful elephant herds … we would always recommend to take 2 days and maybe travel from the north through Khaudum and spend minimum one night here!
We hope to be back soon!

It was, by far, the worst place we were un Namibia. Firstly, our mosquito net was broken. We went to ask the receptionist and the people there, not only did not provide us any alternative but were rude and ignored us until our guide arrived. Secondly, the room was full of many different insects, including three big spiders. When asked to the personnel, the answer was that they weren’t dangerous, assuming that you would feel comfortable with non-dangerous insects. Thirdly, the room was dirty and with humidity. Fourthly, no hot water in the bathroom. Last, but not least, incredibly bad breakfast. All in all, it is the last place I would recommend in Namibia, I was much better in a tent camp than in that place.

The campsites are well maintained and there are electricity and lights. The showers had problems, but they offered us to shower inside the bungalows. The staff were very friendly and also gave directions to the Boabab trees that we visited close by. The booking agent informed us to bring our own wood as theirs was wet and they couldn't supply

Campsites were good but the ablutions are in a terrible state. Toilets broken, water running, dirty, only one toilet working, showers dirty. No shower working so had to use a shower in a room. On top of that there is a serious mosquito problem. The whole place looks run down.

Overall, it was very nice. The service could be a lot better. The Afrikaans speaking lady at the reception was very nice and made us feel at home. However, the waitress was lacking in clear communication, and it felt a bit like it was her first day and that she was not really into the job.

I had a wonderful stay at the Tsumkwe Country Lodge. The lodge was very organised, clean and friendly. The staff went out of their way to help me explore the surrounding area. The Nyae Nyae Pans were breathtakingly beautiful and wild, whilst the San communities which are dotted around the region, are fascinating and precious cultural heritage sites. It was only thanks to the Tsumkwe Country Lodge that I was able to experience so much of this incredible area… Many BIG thanks... I will definitely come and stay again.

You will find a very friendly service, a clean lodge, nice camping sites and a restaurant. Providing you with fire wood and doggy bags if requested. Perfect for game drives, bushwalkes and visits of the San tribe villages.
