I stayed at H.H in early fall of 2013. Never left a review but for whatever reason I got to thinking about it today and decided I would. This is a long review so buckle up. We aren't tourists, we lived in K.B in a little apartment that flooded do to a busts feed line under our sink. Because of this we were forced to leave. Here's where things get dicey; my girlfriend was 6 months pregnant, we had a dog and a cat. We couldn't find anywhere to move into that we could afford but thanks to our landlord, he was able to get his insurance to put us up at holiday house which obviously saved us. We were there for about a month so we got to know Alvina fairly well. She is a tough old lady who is friendly but also will not take any crap. She can be a little kooky and bark at tou about stuff but from speaking with her as had people who trashed the place when their dogs were left unattended so she is quite sensitive to that. She is also in pretty old and I think she would probably rather not have to deal with guests, but needs to pay the bills. The place is old and warn down but you've got an old woman running the show. She's not gonna go around with a skillsaw and nail gun and fix everything. She has a couple people who help her out here and there but are you in Tahoe to hang out in a hotel room or to get out and enjoy the place. If it's the former, leave your pets at home and go to the Hyatt in Incline. Anyway, I'm eternally grateful to Alvina becuase my ex and I were in in deep water and she bailed us out by taking in our little family and proving us a place to live until we could find another apartment.

My friend and I were looking for a place for a last minute girls trip. We found this place and was NOT disappointed! The owner was super friendly and so sweet to us. We made reservations to go back the end of July 2020 and can't wait. The views are SPECTACULAR!!!!

This is a small motel in Tahoe Vista, just outside Kings Beach on the north Tahoe shore. It has 8 appartments on two levels. It is only 20 feet away from a rocky beach. You can hear waves from the room.
Appartments: we spent three nights in a one bedroom apartment. It has one bedroom with queen bad, bathroom with shower (no tub), living room with portable queen bad and small kitchen. Also, small TV with cable, fridge, microwave, pots, plates and cups. It has all you need, it is pretty clean but long overdue for renovation. It has 70's look and feel. So everything would be perfect if price is right. But here is what I think:
1. This is a "doggy" place. The owner is friendly to dogs and it comes with the price. We did not know that and were probably the only family with no dogs. Some other visitors let their dog poop in front of our door and did not clean.
2. Location is excellent, which also raises the price. It is next door to marina and pretty nice restaurant.
3. If they remodel the object and rooms, and there are no dogs, price would be right and it would be 5 stars. Otherwise, $200/night, incl. tax is too much.

The views are spectacular and priceless. I tried to overlook everything else hence why I stayed there at least two or three times. When I checked in with Alvina there was dog feces all throughout her living room from her German Shepherd. There wasn't even snow on the ground to have that as an excuse. The upstairs unit facing the lake needed much repair. Heater works for a limited time, and is on the ground with carpet. The old school kind. The freezer never worked in the mini fridge and parts of the deck outside if you walk on you can actually feel start to give away. I stayed there because it was easy to bring my dog who's only 24 lb. Her dog is about 150 lb and is not leashed ever. I asked her if I could pay less than $200 a night since the room needed a lot she immediately was defensive and ready to fight and argue. Yelling she was old and didn't have to deal with this bs. I would never stay there again unless someone else owned it and Managed the property. Sad that she runs away a lot of people, and that's why the property is usually empty even in Prime season.

We stayed at the Holiday House in Lake Tahoe July 22-24, 2006. Accommodations were exactly as expected..not plush but very good with a nice lay-out to the rooms. Each has a living room with murphy bed or fold-out couch, plus a seperate bedroom with queen bed. All include fridge, microwave, and stove so you can cook in the room. Grills are provided outside. Since Tahoe is expensive, this can provide a savings of sort. The best things about the place are: the VIEWS and the personalized service. The owner was very helpful and attentive to our needs...I am a smoker and knew it was not allowed in the rooms so she was helpful in placing me in an end unit where I could smoke outside and not bother other guests. The motel is at the top of Lake Tahoe on the CA side with unecumbered views of the lake...beautiful. A very good stay. Highly recommended. Especially for couples traveling with children in need of some private time and romance. FYI...there's a full-length mirror at the head of the bed in the private bedroom. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!

This is one of the few hotels that actually face the lake - a real jewel with only 6 suites. It has beautiful views - could not get enough of the scenery through the huge windows. The kitchenette was perfect for breakfast and lunch preparation and even a simple dinner - small refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, small cooktop and oven. I don't go on vacation to cook, so it worked out well for my husband and me. It is very rustic - tongue and groove pine paneling in all rooms, even the bathroom. Coffee, Tazo tea, salt and pepper, and sugar were all provided by Alvina, the owner, who is a jewel herself. Comfortable bed with lovely sheets, fresh towels everyday if you want them, nice sofa was a queen sleeper but we never opened it, lots of chairs/pillows/coverlets outside on the deck for your comfort. It was a little chilly when we were there but the sun was warm, so the coverlets were a nice addition if you got a little cool while enjoying the great outdoors. If you like rustic, charming inns, you will love the Holiday House. If you like the glitz and luxury of the Ritz-Carlton or the Sheraton, you might not be happy here - but you will miss a great experience!

I called to make a reservation for me, my fiancee and my dog. After getting the usual questions about the dog (size, friendly, keeping him in a crate when not there) the owner said, "O.K., I've got your reservation all set for tonight." Then after driving 2 hours coming from south of San Fran, I get a call back from the lady saying she made a mistake and she has no room for the evening!! What kind of poor business practice is that?? So I told her I was already on the way and had driven 2 hours... all she could say was "sorry." I asked her to call around and find another hotel for us, then, since my phone battery was low. She said she wouldn't. Totally a terrible experience with a lady that obviously lied about having a reservation or just has chaos in her office that she can't keep anything straight... makes me wonder if the sheets in the bedrooms get cleaned between guests??

Never the less, after arriving in north Tahoe we went from hotel to hotel and finally found a pet-friendly room. Tahoe is beautiful, but if you want a guaranteed room, I wouldn't stay at the Holiday House!

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend while attending a friend's wedding. The accomodations were very comfortable and the hospitality was gracious and warm. A great bargain CLOSE to everything, just west of the SR 89 junction from Truckeee.

What a hidden gem! We stayed here last week for four days and what a great experience. The view from the deck cannot be beat. The rooms are rustic and have a cabin feel, if you are expecting the Ritz, you will need to go elsewhere. There was plenty of room for everyone and the room was very clean. you cannot find more excellent, friendly service. Alvina is totally accommodating and glad to have you there and it really shows.

We stayed at Holiday House for a family wedding on the recommendation of a local because it was dog friendly and had a lovely view of the lake. I had spoken with Alvina the proprietor in planning our trip and understood that while the kitchen had a small under counter refrigerator, otherwise it was a full kitchen as I had some cooking to do. Actually, it was smaller than a camper kitchen with the space between the tiny stove and sink, maybe a full 12 inches. The good news was that there was a propane bbq on the communal deck which we used to cook dinner as the small stove was not up to cooking for 4. There were 2 knives-- a small steak knife and a large bread knife for all chopping and slicing needs. The small refer had a tiny freezer compartment that held one plastic ice tray so if you wanted to cool several drinks, it was not up to the task. There was no ice machine on premises, you had to drive to Safeway and buy ice and have a cooler in which to store it.

There was a lovely view out our 2 sliding windows to the lake. One window had no screen, the other window’s was bent so it was good the bug count was not high this time of year. The week we were there it was quite hot in the afternoons with little breeze which was when we discovered there was no air conditioning. Nights cooled down enough to sleep comfortably but the afternoons in the high 90’s needed some AC or fans at least.

There is access to the lake by climbing off a deck onto boulders and large rocks and carefully picking your way out into the water, a very uncomfortable process. No effort has been made to make water access easier and there is nothing resembling even a small beach. Other relatives were staying at other places along the lake, all of which had nice access to the water and were a lot less expensive so we had a frame of reference. They were not traveling with a dog which was the difference in price and features and is why Holiday House is able to charge what it does without providing what other places on the lake do

We were brought fresh towels daily—small towels, nothing big and fluffy-- and the wastebaskets were emptied. Otherwise, there was NO housekeeping at all. We were there for 6 nights and the carpet was never vacuumed, our sheets were never changed, our bed never made, no dusting etc.

The tv was a tiny old box so it was good that we didn’t spend any time watching it. The person in the room above us was quiet but there was nothing he could do to keep his floor and our ceiling from squeaking very loudly whenever he walked.

My complaint is not that the place has few genuine amenities other than the nice touch of a welcome basket for our dog because we also camp and can make do. Our dissatisfaction comes from paying a lot of money for a room and finding the facilities were nowhere at all commensurate to the expense. Our 6 night stay cost $1303 and for that we at the very least expected daily housekeeping, nice fluffy towels, AC, modern TV, a more useful kitchenette, some soundproofing and an easy access to the lake. This place is for the dogs.
