Location is tops with this property ... a short walk to the cove, sea cliffs, children's pool and lots of restaurants and shopping. The staff was great and friendly. Our room was in the new building (the Pines). The main building is still under renovation so it's a fun maze to get to the new rooms. Even though it's new and the shower is large, I gave the room 3 stars for the following reasons: lots of light-bleed from the hallway and under the door (did a few tricks to block it as best we could), no sound-proofing between adjoining rooms, loud noises all day / late night / very early morning (sounded like doors closing or other loud metal banging noises) and the bathroom and shower need more places to hang wet swimsuits and such. For parking, we managed to use the free public parking (both outside the hotel and while we were out and about), buut it can get tricky and is maybe more hassle than it's worth ... It's a very popular area with countless cars on weekends. All that said, we thoroughly enjoyed our time vacationing in La Jolla.

At $300 something a night literally on the cove, I was well aware that there were going to be some quirks and that we weren’t staying at a luxury resort… that being said, the majority of the reviews we read / the appearance of their website simply do not do justice to exactly how run down this place is. In fairness, I believe we had one of the rooms that had not been renovated however the extent of the disrepair was truly shocking, I had expected older furniture that had kind of a motel vibe but that overall the room would have been well maintained. That was not the case, the entire room looked like it hadn’t had any maintenance in 20 years. The drain didn’t work in the shower, there was an old window that we couldn’t get to properly lock, the AC unit had so much condensation / a possible leak that about 2 ft out in front of it was soaking wet, we found multiple hairs in our linens, the mattress was super thin and you could see about 2” of the plywood it was sitting on as the mattress didn’t seem to fit the bed, overall the room just looked beat to hell with dents and stains. I almost feel bad writing this. I really wanted to like this place - the staff was really friendly and it’s got a cool vintage charm that would have been lovely even without a major overhaul and at budget prices (comparatively to the area) I don’t expect many amenities, nice furniture / linens etc. However, I do expect all elements of the room to be functioning, clean, and in decent repair and that was not even close to the case here. Overall, I would say if you are willing to put up with a really rundown establishment just to have views of the cove at a budget price point, this is a great place for you. Otherwise, sacrifice the view and look elsewhere or just pay the extra for a different property.

Overpriced for the condition of the property. $484 including all the taxes and fees per night for mid-week. This property is being re-modeled and trying to stay open during the process. It is so old and sticky that I think Fred and Barney did the last re-model. No way to sleep in since the construction starts at 7am each morning. I had a suite but there is no air conditioning in the bedroom. The patio chairs are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in. I don't mind spending money but I hate wasting it. We usually stay at the Wynn when we go to Vegas and it is always amazing. Motel 6 would be an upgrade from this place.

I had to book at the last minute due to an emergency. The woman who checked me in very late at night was so nice and accommodating. I felt really great about staying at the La Jolla Cove Hotel. I just loved staying here and will defiantly stay again. The little cafe is great too. Just a short walk to Brockton Villa, which is a great place for breakfast or lunch. I highly recommend this hotel. Once again I would like to say that checking in to such a friendly staff member made this stay so personable and I really appreciated her kindness.

Great location and large suite. Surprised to see such an old dated kitchen with broken faucet. Such a simple replacement. Broken refrigerator not cold and no freezer?? If you're advertising a kitche.... 🤔

On the plus side, but there are many downsides for us, location is great on the shorefront. Room, recently refurbished, was well appointed and pleasant to be in. We were in a lower floor room with no appreciable view however. The room had usual bits and pieces you would expect at this price point. Air conditioning worked well and was quiet and unobtrusive. Main issues were noise, light pollution and internet. Noise, nicely refurbished room but poor attention to detail. Noise pollution through the front door was very bad. We were located near an exterior door that crashed shut till late at night and from early in the morning, some damping of this door needed plus better insulation of the main door. You could also hear noise from anyone in the corridors outside the room. We had an adjoining door to an adjacent room and could hear every conversation from the next door room clearly plus any ambient noise, improve sound insulation on the connecting doors. Light pollution through the windows was bad, fancy blinds were useless with light from floodlights outside our room escaping round the sides of them, supply proper curtains rather than going for aesthetics. Internet, strangled 1mb/s internet unless we pay a charge for faster service!!!! You do realise this is 2022 in a $300 a night room in California don't you! We had 300mb/sec in a secluded area of Oahu the week before. Room wasn't serviced during our entire stay, I often opt out of cleaning but this wasn't by choice, it just wasn't cleaned and we had to ask for toiletries etc. $5 bottles of water shipped from Denmark, stupid price, environmentally damaging and pointlessly pretentious. Overall this hotel is very room location sensitive, I suspect some rooms are fine but ours was not good.

First, this hotel has always offered a very nice continental breakfast and when I booked the room in early spring, it was still advertised on the website as included in the price. When I arrived, I was told no breakfast and no adjustment in price. I could visit the Cafe for breakfast. I would think a credit to my rate or a credit to the hotel would have been nice since this what i signed up for. You have to try to make things right if a change needs to occur. Second, they rent out the terrace for public events. LOUD music with no one guarding the other side of the terrace to make sure the people attending those events have access to the hotel room areas. We had drunk people coming to our hallway to smoke, make up and just be loud. They sure had people on the other side (where the only working elevators were) make sure hotel guests we could not walk over to our rooms, which means we had to take the stairs. 5 flights of stairs. Third only one set of working elevators. I will say the Pines area was very nice and the cleaning service and Michael at the front desk was Great. He did the best he could. I just think its bad business to advertise something, stop offering it, not tell you until you check in and then don’t adjust your rate you agreed to with the service being offered at the time you booked the room. I always enjoyed this service when I came to this hotel. I realize things change and maybe cost wise they could no longer provide it, but do good business and let people know and see how to make it right. It’s just called “treating people well” during these crazy times.

Dear Travelk5, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment. The hotel has not provided a complimentary breakfast since 2018 and it is not advertised on our website. All mentions of it were removed approximately four years ago. We recently renovated one of our elevators and we are waiting for a final inspection from the state in order to begin using it. We will share your feedback regarding the event with the appropriate departments, so they can use it to to improve their processes. We hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you when our renovation is complete. Kind regards

What a great place! We checked in with Cherish who was a total sweetheart and helpful and we walked outside to check out all the seals and water steps from our room so far! The newer part of the hotel was renovated and is super sleek and upscale and our balcony view is fantastic!
