Very expensive and the check out statement was to be emailed but I had to request an updated one as we had to extend our stay a day due to illness. I still don’t have it resolved and we had in room service charges that we never ordered and we are still waiting for a revised bill.

Hotel's Favourite
This is a gorgeous property, but the best part about it is the exceptional staff. At every turn, they went above and beyond any request I had. We stayed during COVID-19, and even with the many restrictions, the staff made up for it. For example, normally there is a hotel shuttle that will take you to a nearby beach, but that service was suspended during COVID. So what do they do ? The front desk staff arranged and paid for our transportation to and from the beach ! And then, while we were on the beach, they called us to see how we were doing, and if they could also get us tacos or nachos delivered to us on the beach ! I have worked at 5-star properties myself, and these staff members blew me away. I would like to personally commend Fawz Hussein and Juan Jiminez for their exemplary service and being such heroes to the profession of hospitality.

131Joanne131, Thank you so much for your five bubble review. We will celebrate the recognition with Fawz and Juan for their personal impact to your stay. I am so glad you were able to get to our local beach. The shores make a great place to explore and relax in the open space of our local beaches. We look forward to your return visit in the future, Sincerely, Paul Maddison General Manager

The website made this seem like a calm and special oasis at which to celebrate our son's graduation. I wish I had trusted the reviews about it's sketchiness--they were right on. As people say, the grounds are lovely, and that is where the loveliness stops. This is a hotel where they have figured out a way to squeeze money out of every single inch of the property. That means instead of enjoying a garden oasis, you will be treated to watching the set up for a wedding or bar mitzvah in said garden, as happened on 2 days our stay. Busy workers rolling carts, folks shoutting about where things go--the gardens are doing double duty, and then of course the event itself, at which point you feel like an intruder/spectator if you want to sit on your deck--the gardens are gone, and someone's special day is there for your viewing. The pool does double duty too--it's not just for hotel guests, it is also a money maker, where day visitors pay to get in. The result--a jam packed pool experience, with no seats available and a gazillion kids. And empty McDonalds cups and old drinks littered the pool area Monday morning. Gotta make that money off the pool. I guess it is the same for the parking lot? I get downtown hotels charging for parking. I am free to find my own parking on streets or public garages. But a suburban resort? I'll add that because of commencement the weekend we were there, there was no parking anywhere for miles--they were graduating 1000s of kids, with police and tow away signs everywhere. Why the charge for parking? Do they rent out parking spaces to non-guests? Of course this is a hotel that is going to milk Covid to cheap out on housekeeping. Every other hotel we stayed at on our trip down the coast managed housekeeping and we all lived to tell the tale. When I called to ask for housekeeping, the front desk acted surprised: What is this housekeeping of which you speak? And then the Covid excuse rolled out. When I pointed out that we had no towels left and our trash bin was filled, I was told they could send some towels, which arrived in a hefty bag. Julia tried to help by offering to rebate some of the resort fee, but it just wasn't adequate to how unpleasant this all was. Oh, I could go on--sink stopper broke, sink didn't drain, soap was spoiled/rancid, which I didn't even know was a thing. The bites--fleas? bed bugs? I don't know, but I had several upon waking. The surly check out when I expressed shock at having to pay $35 buck per night for parking suggests they get that a lot, and the mean check out woman has steeled herself for these conversations. The nice young guy who checked me in could have told me about parking charges when he said that my stay was prepaid, so I would only be charged for incidentals like food and drink. I felt robbed by this place--maybe it wouldn't have mattered if it hadn't been a special occasion. If you are not going for a special occasion, maybe it won't matter to you.

Beautiful hotel with wonderful service in a quiet area of La Jolla. The grounds are impeccable and there are little alcoves where your can read or relax. The pool is amazing and large enough to do laps. It is also warm. And the pool service was great. Best of all you are walking distance to the beach.

If you want to go to a hotel where “the customer is not always right” and are told that “this is not the hotel for you” - then I recommend Estancia. While the grounds are beautiful, that’s really all Estancia has going for them. While we recognize it’s a boutique hotel, we expect a decent level of service as paying customers and we felt as though we were treated with disrespect from the managers. While Manager Julia was kind and understanding, she could have done more to make sure our stay was enjoyable due to a misunderstanding on her part. Kristian T had zero empathy or understanding as a manager and made us feel as though we were not good enough to be patrons of this hotel. The hotel is extremely cheap... I felt as though I was basically bargaining to request a late check out. All the other staff at the hotel were lovely with the exception of those at the front desk (except the more seasoned front desk lady who was happy to do her best to help and super sweet). Because of the way we were treated as customers, we will not be returning to this establishment, which is very sad because it is a beautiful setting.
