I needed a room for one night while visiting family in Encinitas, and based on so many glowing reviews I decided to book this place. Oh wow, was I wrong. PROS: The location is really centrally located to the beach and northern SD. I like that each room feels like its own little bungalow, and that there is a kitchenette. CONS: -Let's start with the worst part: I saw a giant roach crawling out from under the bed in the morning, after having slept the whole night there. At that point, I was so done with the hotel that I didn't bother to complain. You can see below for the rest. -Upon arrival, the on site manager gave us a tour of the room, micro-managing every aspect of it. Demonstrating how to open and close the windows and doors, very strange, and also told us we could not leave our dog alone in the room. This was news to us. I immediately called the restaurant we had reservations for with our family for dinner - no dogs allowed. So we figure, we'll give her food and walk her, leave for 2 hours for dinner, then come back as soon as it's over to make sure there is no barking or disturbance for anyone late at night. -Only 10 minutes after we left, I got a very intense phone call from the manager informing us that our dog was barking after he made noise in the adjacent room. You would think he might have common sense - give it some time to see if the dog calms down, or realize that people have to go out to eat - but no. I told him we had to go eat at a non-dog-friendly restaurant, and he told us it was fine as long as we weren't out "too late." This ruined our experience at dinner, I couldn't relax knowing that this man was sitting there waiting for us to rush back to the hotel. -Our room was right on the street, so the noise levels were very high from the train and the traffic outside. Made it hard to sleep. -The mattress was uncomfortable, and the sheets were like sandpaper. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Next time I visit SD, I'll be staying at a bigger name hotel that has better cleaning standards and friendlier staff.

We're sorry we didn't meet your expectations. While we are dog friendly in many of our rooms, we do ask you respect other guests by making sure your dog is quiet. We don't find that at all unreasonable as everyone is hoping to get a good nights sleep. We generally get very positive reviews about our new beds as well and surprised you found them to be unsatisfactory. Hopefully other guests read the other reviews to see what we truly are.

Great little hotel. Super nice check in - big, sparkly clean rooms. Ours had a little kitchenette with fridge, stove, microwave and dishes. Walking distance to the beach and many restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops.

First, what I loved: customer service was excellent. Todd was great. The room had two of the most comfortable double beds I have EVER slept in! Plenty of pillows. Tile floors were a plus. Nice light from the windows and they OPENED to provide fresh air!! Cute shutters. Loved the ceiling fan. Nice kitchenette area with just about all the accoutrements you'd need to be comfortable fixing or eating a meal. Very nice, soft towels. "No contact" housekeeping which I appreciated. A vanity mirror and medicine cabinet in the bathroom. If you like trains, the Surf Liner runs by regularly! Oh...a nice flat screen tv was provided as well as a 3-drawer dresser. What were the down points? First THETRAFFIC NOISE FROM THE STREET!! I was in Room 13 which directly faced the street. Not sure if the units further "inside" the courtyard get the same level of street noise. Since I do like trains that wasn't particularly a problem. But the constant flow of traffic, people walking by, laughter, talking, horns blowing, etc. was very disturbing. It did quiet down at night. Secondly, the bathroom was TINY and the vanity mirror was situated in an odd placement so you weren't looking face on at it, but sideways. The kitchen did not provide paper towels. The bathroom had no Kleenex. There is no closet just an alcove with a bar for hangers. We could hear the hum from adjacent air conditioner units. Our unit had no bathtub. If that's important, you should ask for a unit with a tub. Minor quibbles: the shower rod was "duct taped" in one area and a piece of the splash guard behind the bathroom sink had been scotch taped so it wouldn't fall off. All in all, I would definitely recommend this place especially if you are one person and want some "alone" time. The town is laid back and the pizza at Pandora's Pizza was delicious! Great produce market next door to the Inn with a great variety of foodstuffs (including ice cream!)

Room Tip: Ask for a room FAR from the street! But you will still hear the trains roll by. Bring your own...

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We are near rail road tracks, but we have noise reducing windows and doors that reduce the noise level quite well. We have numerous room types and some are much larger than the room you booked. We are glad to hear you had a great stay and plan on replacing the shower rod immediately.

I just spent some time at the Leucadia Beach Inn. It was the most pleasant experience. It's a couple of blocks from the beach, rooms are huge, clean, and comfy. And kitchettes. Outstanding customer service. It's close to everything BEACH. I never stay anywhere else when I'm visiting family in SoCal. This is a 1920s almost auto court that has been updated but not ruined. I love it here.

We recently got married and booked the entire courtyard for our friends from out of town to stay at. Todd and Mark went above and beyond throughout the entire booking process and getting everyone situated. All our friends could say was how nice the managers at the Inn were. It's a great location if you are visiting, it's right on the 101, close to a bunch of great restaurants/shops and also right next to two amazing beaches(that's why we chose it for our friends). They are a local family run business and you won't be disappointed!
