Arctic River Lodge is situated in Tärendö, 80 km north of the arctic circle. It is famous for its beautiful location with rivers all around. The Lodge is fully renovated in 2018 and has all the facilities you need to enjoy the best Lapland has to offer. Nice cozy rooms, a relaxed lounge with fireplace, sauna and relax area inside the building. The restaurant serves top quality food and wine. Our two chefs Audrey and Lowie welcome you to the table and present local ingredients from the village and wine from our own wine cellar. Our team will give you a lifelong memory by welcoming you on all kinds of activities. Next to the hotel we have a newly built husky kennel with 80 dogs.
The rooms are very plain and basic, perfectly fine but nothing to rave about. There's no tv which was fine with us but some people might miss it. There is supposedly floor heating in the bathroom but it didn't work in our room. the heat didn't work either. We didn't need it but if there in the winter you would. the staff were great and the common room was nice with a fireplace. It's a great place for seeing Northern lights if you are there at the right time.

The Arctic River Lodge provides everything that's needed for a stay in Tärendo. There were some misunderstandings at the booking at first which left us confused about what rooms there are and what they provide. Also, the rooms are quite small. The food that is provided has a good quality, but not with a high variety (which is ok as Tärendö is not very centrally located).

Excellent! Nice location, gentle and very helpfull young staff, quiet at night and great food! We spent five days doing all kinds of winter/snow related activities like husky rides, snowscooter(ing), long walks throught the amazing snowy landscape and saw the nothersn light in all its glory. Of course, wintertime is the most beautiful time to go.

Due to the Covid-19, the lodge was completely empty: we were the only guests in. However the staff was really professional and hospitable, giving it all to make us feel at home. And they really did! We enjoyed all the activities, and decided to join also some opcional one: we really reccommend the husky sled, the visit to the reindeer corral and the snowshoeing looking for northern lights! The place is lovely, with fireplace in living room and in the dining-room always on. Rooms are warm, wide and clean. Sauna is free and wide. Last but not least, the kitchen! The chef is really a master! Every day he proposed different menus with special dishes, combining local food and european products. Each dinner was like a culinary trip! Great experience! Thanks to all the guys that made these four days so relaxing and exciting! We will miss Arctic River Lodge!!!…

We stayed in the Arctic River lodge for 4 nights having taken their Wilderness package, which included the tours on snowmobile and huskies. Activities were great and we had lots of fun. Everything was spotlessly organised including the lunches in between. Guides were super too! Something to note specifically about the tours is that upon arrival you will be offered an optional insurance package in case you break a snowmobile or a sledge. It brings the damage costs down but still doesn't eliminates them, so be careful :) Hotel itself is very nice, nice bar, sauna and good size restaurant. Our room was also nice. Hot, mid size and with everything we could need. Nothing to fault for. Bed was also very comfy. The only little complaint that I would have is for the pressure of the hot water which was very low. Now to the negative part and it is the food offering and the reason I am rating the hotel as 3. When booking, they have told as that it is a full board aka all meals included, which is true, BUT: 1. Breakfast has basically little to no choice, but still tolerable and gets you more or less ready for your activity of the day or skiing. 2. Lunch while on activity is also ok, consisted of the same plain and uninteresting sandwich and small dessert + hot juice and tea/coffee. When not doing an activity, the lunch in hotel is just ridiculous. It is buffet, which consisted of 2 choices, both starters! We had a soup and a salad to choose from. Ridiculous for the price you pay for the package. 3. With regards to dinner, the funny thing was that in the full board only main course and the dessert are included and if you would like a starter, that goes for extra charge. Minuscule and posh portions of the main and dessert, it is almost inevitable that you would get a starter (or 2). Clear rip off. In this hotel, you are almost all day out in cold either doing activities or skiing, so a nice big dinner is almost always a must. High end restaurant has no place in hotels like that especially where there are no restaurants around and its your only choice for dinner. I would not stay again, despite the fact that the hotel itself and the stuff is actually very very nice.…

In this hotel you arrive with an activity package for a short expedition in Swedish Lapland. The hotel has a cosy and familial atmosphere and everybody is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are good but a standard plus room is recommended (± 18 m²). The rooms are clean and have the basic amenities. However, there is no in room safe, no hair dryer, mini bar or TV. It is communicated that rooms are cleaned every other day. That is no problem, but it would be an improvement when trash bins were emptied on a daily base. An absolute surprise is the excellent culinary experience. The cooks manage to bring a high standard of dishes with local ingredients. Included is a three course menu but there is a daily optional suggestion, well worth to try it. For kids they provide a kids menu. Several activities such as snowscooter and dogsled trips or ice fishing are included and are escorted by experienced guides, with our special thanks to Femke. We had the luck to see the northern lights. So, if you want to take your chance to observe aurora borealis this place is a very well recommendable option.…

This a recently renovated hotel, but what was the person who decided about the renovation thinking. For a hotel in the countryside (where space is cheap) most rooms (and bathrooms) are extremely small (see my photos). There is no elevator, which may be hard for elderly people. If several people take a shower, the water is no longer warm. I would only go to the Artic River Lodge for its splendid kitchen and the very friendly staff.

This cozy lodge has a family-and-friends atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food is to die for: tasty, full of different flavors, with stylish twists to classical local dishes. The rooms are comfortable and the beds provide the safe haven you need for when you come back from one of the many, many, many possible activities. I recommend this place wholeheartedly!

We booked our vacation at Arctic River Lodge through some friends who had already stayed at one of the other lodges from Explore the North and highly recommended it to us. This is a unique experience, different from what you might have experienced before. As soon as you arrive, you feel pampered by every one of the employees. It doesnt matter who you ask, you will always find a kind hand and definetely get help with what you need. The lodge is cozy and the atmosphere is relaxing. I have not experienced any noises, not even at the bar when it gets crowdy. There is a wide range of drinks and the bartenders are ready to delight you with their creativity. The food at the restaurant is delicious!!! The service is well mannered and you can feel that they really want you to enjoy your meal. The light is perfect and the tables are enough far from each other to keep your privacy. The rooms are a bit small, but you definetely not come here to stay inside your room. The beds are really comfortable which for me is more than enough. Not to forget to mention the how clean everything is. The range of activities is wide enough to satisfy the most active ones. The lodge has a changing room and they provide you with all the necessary winter gear; shoes, pants, jacket, gloves, hat and balaklava. (I recommend you to get heat and hand warmers if you get easily cold). I am not an adrenaline seeker, but if you are, you can try snowscooter and ice buggy (really funny). I learned to use snowscooter and discovered landscapes that I might never have reached by foot or by car. I recommend to talk to a guide if you do not feel 100% comfortable, so they can adjust your program. We did it since my dad had a surgery not long ago, and we got adviced to take one of the shorter tours. It was amazing to have the chance to join, since we were a bit skeptical at the beginning! What about the adorable huskies? I joined a tour, we were two people sharing one sled pulled by 5 energetic huskies. We experienced different landscapes in complete silence and managed to spot a few birds from the area. This experience was probably the most mesmerizing together with the Northern Lights. Snowshoe walks, where you might be able to see tame reindeer or even moose (hide behind a tree), cross country ski, fatbike, story telling in a lavvu (sami tent) while your guide is cooking for you... And to conclude, after been outside, a hot sauna followed by a jacuzzi, made my vacation more than perfect. I loved it!!…
