Again, amazed with their service. They helped me organice a nice anniversary dinner for my wife. She loved it. The food really good, candles and all the details. The best place in Torti, either for a stay on your way or if you are new in this charming little town.

A great experience and lovely hotel. I have visited this hotel multiple times and stayed in several different rooms. The rooms are clean and well cared for and the owner is great to talk to. I have felt safe and secure in the rooms and have enjoyed many evenings sitting on the wrap around porch overlooking a lovely tropical garden. I have also enjoyed eating at the attached restaurant. This hotel in Torti is a hidden gem.

In an area not know for great accommodations and food, Avicar stands out. We stayed there for three days on a birding expedition. Unprepossessing from the road, the rooms sit on a shady hillside with a nice swimming pool. Rooms are basic but well-cared for and clean. And the food is worth a special trip. For breakfast, the best fried bread we had anywhere in Panama. For lunch and dinner, all the dishes are nicely cooked, with a variety of different sauces. The local shrimp are particularly good, and the patacones crisp without being either overly oily or starchy. Owner Andres is friendly and engaging, and clearly a source of great hospitality to the local community as well as travelers.

Our birding tour group stopped here twice for lunch and restrooms. The food was excellent, with a very good variety available. We ate outside so we could watch the action at the hummingbird feeders. The restrooms were clean. We also walked along the nearby river and the bridge for good birding. This should be a planned stop for anyone heading to/from the Darien.

This hotel is an absolute gem. I stayed here while volunteering with Global Brigades and the owner, Andres, always made an effort to remember our names and greet us when he saw us. There were never any bugs in our rooms and the shower had hot water with good strong pressure. My stay here was wonderful, I would recommend this hotel to all - families, solo travelers, couples, and business travelers.

I ate on the outside veranda with close views of hummingbirds on the nearby syrup feeders . I had shrimps and fries with a freshly squeezed pineapple juice . The food was plentiful and very tasty a local kitten helped me finish the shrimps . The family who run the restaurant and hotel were very welcoming and friendly . The landscaped gardens were full of flowers and there is a pleasant pool for guests . Situated midway between Panama City and Darien , we had a pleasant and relaxing stop here . We also drove down to the Torti river for some excellent birding , including the recently discovered Caribbean Grackle .

80 miles north of the end of the Panamanian Highway and the Darian Gap, Hotel Avicar is a joyous and pleasurable stop before stepping off into the end of the world. You will sleep in air-cooled spacious rooms and Andres, your host, will make sure you have a tasty Panamanian meal served in his restaurant. The hotel features a small swimming pool, hummingbird feeders flashing with color, and a beautiful view of the amazing surroundings. Torti is a sweet isolated little town filled eye-catching murals, a few shops with basic goods and beer and wine. Maybe a dusty bottle of gin if you look hard enough. You may be lucky enough to meet up with some people from the Kuna tribes who frequent the area. The women wear beautiful hand embroidered shirts called molas, while the men dress more often in standard western wear. If you want to take a photo, ask and donate a few dollars for their time. Andres will give you all the local information that you need. He runs a wonderful hotel and restaurant and you will love you stay.

What a great place. Andres and his wonderful family own and operate this hotel and restaurant. The rooms are clean and quiet with hot water and air conditioning. The grounds are simply beautiful! The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining, the talented chef has recently outdated the menu to include both authentic and gourmet meals. Andres speaks excellent English and is a fine host. You won't find a better, safer place to stay in the Darien.

This restaurant has Panamanian food. It's really good and it won'T break your bank. We stop here on the way to Darien. They also have a hotel - which I never stayed at, therefore I cannot evaluate it. They have many hummingbirds flying around, a nice garden and a pool for hotel guests.

My friends and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We are serious birders but had never been in the area. The owner Andres was very kind to help us find good birding spots drawing us maps and giving us accurate directions, he is also a nice man to talk to. The rooms are air conditioned and very comfortable. The grounds are nice and very birdy in the morning. This place is half way down to Darien so you can go to Darien to look for harpy eagle and use this hotel as your base. The restaurant is very good with excellent food and environment, we ate there the whole time. There are hummingbird feeders with at least 8 sp. Hands down I totally recommend this place.
