In the swimming pool we had to 'sign in' with a shared pen despite having booked our slot at reception. A totally unnecessary covid protocol breach. If we return to Tortosa it will be on a room only basis.
Others have commented on the staff being cold, but we didn't notice this. Reception check in and out was fine, friendly and efficient. We took advantage of our 'Amigos' free drinks in the bar but decided to eat in Tortosa, which is a 15 min walk with a steep climb to return.
Breakfast was disappointing. They seem to have fixed the reported problems with the orange juice and coffee, as both are now served fresh. However, the cooked breakfasts are pre-prepared and not kept warm. Our bacon and eggs arrived in under 2 minutes, but were barely luke warm.
Overall, a good place to stay overnight if you want to get away from the hotels by the motorway. Tortosa is an easy 15 min drive from the AP7/E15 motorway.
The view from our room was amazing. We felt the restaurant was rather over priced and the food wasn’t to our taste, so we opted to eat in the bar area. The barman was lovely, couldn’t have been more accommodating and pleasant for the two nights we were there. Breakfast was included in our room rate and although there was a large selection of items, the room was stifling hot, that together with the surliness of some of the waiting staff meant we didn’t enjoy breakfast at all. We did have a nice stay but I’m not sure we would go again, the price was very high probably because of the location.
The hotel is situated in an ancient castle overlooking the River Ebre, having a superb view across the whole city and surroundings. This results in a lot of non resident tourists visiting the site to see the view, especially at weekends, which puts an enormous strain on the brasserie/bar on site, which is open to all comers. We experienced several times a problem in the bar when one member of staff was completely overwhelmed trying to take drinks and food orders, and serve at the same time, not good for either customers, staff and, probably more importantly, residents.
Fortunately there is plenty of parking, so the non-residents don’t cause a problem there.
The hotel is a typical Parador, the rooms are comfortable, the bathrooms well equipped and we both had good nights sleep.
The hotel itself is generally looking a little tired, our room was certainly in need of some refurbishment, although this did not detract from the stay.
The swimming pool in the grounds was very well used, (it was above 30deg at the time).
The restaurant was also pretty full on the night we used it, the food very good, and not too expensive.
Overall it was a more than acceptable stay, made that way by the staff, who, apart from the problem in the bar, were friendly, helpful and good at their job.
The views and are outstanding.
Whilst having lunch people were smoking on the terrace. Let it go.
Went back for dinner, people were smoking again.
Went to see reception, told them, they said they were busy checking people in. Never did anything about it.
They have no pool soccoristta/lifeguard on duty.
Signs saying NO SMOKING but people were smoking with no regard for other people.
If you had a problem at the pool I don’t know where you would get help as it is a long way from reception up and down medieval stone flights of stairs.
There are signs INSIDE the hotel you cannot take photographs because of copy right but you can smoke whilst people are eating food, strange.
Receptionist didn’t like me for asking questions.
On the last day I asked was the pool smoke free.
Her answer was she didn’t know and she didn’t care.
Paradores are either smoke free or not.
Make your mind up Paradores???
Sir don’t even comment that you are sorry to hear my comments.
There will come a day in the near future when a legal company takes you to court for not stopping smoking on your premises.
In the castle you are living it is an age gone bye.
I have put a formal complaint in with the H Q of paradores
Be very interesting what they have to say
Little light in the room.
Too much noise during cleaning.
Restaurant waiters super friendly, unlike the reception.
File a formal complaint about your treatment
The person responsible did not appear and left the brown bag to the workers.
Of the paradores visited this summer, the worst by far in terms of treatment and services.
They should learn from their colleagues at CARDONA, the first being the director.
They gave me a superior double room €399.60 taxes from Catalonia apart with views of the closed powder magazine and some ruins in addition to the noise from the pool
It turned out that the room had more nightly surprises. At night there was an unbearable noise that prevented us from sleeping, especially considering that we were leaving on a trip the next day. We informed reception, but it continued. Later we reported it again and a person from reception came up, entered the room, with the family in bed, to check where the noise was coming from, not discovering the origin, and telling us that he would notify maintenance. Finally after midnight the noise disappeared.
The next day no one asked us, gave us any explanation, nor apologized. The reception person who had gone up was no longer there. After having stayed overnight in more than 50 Paradores over the years, nothing like this had ever happened to us. In other types of hotels yes.
The service is very friendly and attentive.
The pool should have more shade or at least umbrellas for all the sunbeds because otherwise the sun is unbearable. They should also clean the area at the edge of the water as there is a greenish ribbon around the pool that, although the water is very transparent, does not inspire much confidence.
The restaurant service, although somewhat slow, is quite good.
