Detailed Reviews
Just returned from two weeks in a Manolis one bedroom apartment. Exceptionally clean and spacious rooms. Adequate kitchen equipment, including large fridge freezer. Perfect location. Short walk to beaches and restaurants but in a peaceful quiet location. Gardens and pool well kept with enough shade. Would recommend to friends.

Stayed here for 10 days from June 26th. We came with our daughter who is 19 for a quiet restful holiday and that is exactly what we had. Manolis apartments are a family business and very well run. Our room was cleaned every day and towels and bedding changed about every 2 days. The whole atmosphere was so friendly and relaxing. Just a short walk from all the restaurants for the evening just added to the ease of the holiday. We visited Suda and Shimara beaches mainly which are a short car ride away. Easy access to diving and snorkelling facilities also in Plakias. Relaxing by the pool and garden also just added to the whole atmosphere of Manolis apartments. We very much hope to return next year!

Manolis & his family do their utmost to ensure everyone's stay here is what it should be. As has been mentioned, they leave you to get on with your holiday, but are there to help, be it assisting with luggage on arrival/departure, give directions to local amenities or attractions. We stayed in an apartment that could have slept 4 adults, but had booked it for our use alone. Large lounge/dining room, with separate bedroom, and separate bathroom, which meant the latter was much larger than an ensuite. We had two balconies, one smaller than the other, but nevertheless two.
The lady who does the cleaning is amazing. Apartment was cleaned every day - including Sunday - and always to an excellent standard. Bed linen & towels were changed every 3 days,
Good, decent sized pool, and the apartments are only a few minutes walk, even if you take the tarmac road, rather than the short cut, to the centre of Plakias.
A great little touch on our departure was a gift from Mrs Manolis of a large pack of Oregano, and also Sage tea. We would definitely go back.

My husband and I stayed at Manolis apartments due to a mix up at nearby Anna's apartments and studios. We were traveling with a group of six, two couples stayed at Anna's and we stayed at Manolis for two nights. We all had initially booked our stay at Anna's due to the great reviews of the service, and I agree that Anna and her son Yiannis really do make you feel at home at their apartments. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the service and rooms at Manolis. My interaction with the management was limited to two disappointing conversations: the first was when the owner yelled at me for being in the pools after hours and demanded that I get out, although he had never shared the rules or hours with me in the first place. My second interaction with him was when I came into the office to ask for the wifi password. He came to the front desk looking annoyed to see me and looking quite disheveled. Later that evening, the power went out in the entire village, and I had decided I would rather stay in our room in the dark without electricity than have to have another conversation with him. Among other disappointing things, the shower was terrible. You have to basically hold the curtain in between your legs to get it to keep at least 1/3 of the water from going all over and you might as well be sitting on the toilet while you shower, because you are so close to it. The towels are so stiff, it is like drying off with sand paper, and the wifi doesn't work from inside the rooms. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone nor would I recommend the village of Plakias. My friends and I had chose Plakias because of the hype for the beaches, but it was so windy during our stay that we couldn't enjoy the beaches that drew us there in the first place. Even a walk on the beach resulted in being pelted by sand and rocks. We could not believe how windy it was, and it made our stay there terribly frustrating. We spent 10 days in Greece and our stay in Plakias was the only one we regretted.

Response from MANOL1S, Ιδιοκτήτης at Manolis Apartments
Responded 08 Aug 2014
From the beggining, you started wrong. Firstly you chose wrong dates and then you booked in a hotel and not in a camping as you refer, because when you book in a hotel in which other people have also their vacation you must respect them and not bother them or cause any problem. You came (1 man 3 women) at midnight (1:30 am) , drunk with glasses full of alcohol on hand, including the fact that some of you were not even staying in Manolis Apartments, and you were screaming and shouting and waking up everyone. I woke up to tell you to calm down and when I got back in, you dived into the pool so loud that over the half of the people staying in the hotel were up and annoed. As for the instructions, you say that there are not any, but i would like to inform you that right outside of the reception there is a big board (1,2x1,2 m) in which you can see the use of the pool, although when you are drunk is very difficult to do that! Since that night we hardly met again because nothing happened again to remember. However from that night you were just annoyed with everything, with PLAKIAS, with the WIND, with the OWNER and with the HOTEL.

Located at the back of Plakias (Rethymnon) with mountain views to the rear and balcony overlooking a lush sub-tropical garden surrounding a crystal clear pool, these apartments are a delight. As the reviews state, the rooms are spotlessly clean with bright decor, modern, high quality fittings, extremely comfortable beds and all the extras ( fridge, hotplates, cutlery, pots, pans, glasses, cups, hairdryer, air-con, & TV) including dependable, fast room WiFi. The gardens are very well attended with, at the time we were there in May, the most beautiful roses we have ever seen. There are small swings and play areas for children. This is a great place for peace and quiet but within a 5 min. Walk to the main shopping areas, restaurants and beach. There is free parking. Highly recommended at a very reasonable price.

Great apartment, incredibly well-quipped,very clean and hugely spacious. We only stayed one night but it would be perfect for a longer stay as it is a very short walk into the main centre to shops and restaurants and did not seem that far to the beach. Air conditioning worked great, there was parking right by the apartments and the staff were friendly. Great value for what we paid and we would definitely stay again.

The property combines an older block of studios with a modern block of apartments complete with pool and garden. The location is quiet but very handy for all the local facilities and sea front which are just 5 minutes stroll away. In the other direction you can walk the paths towards Kotsifos Gorge.
We took a top floor type C apartment with an enormous balcony in early September 2011 and were very happy with our stay. Inside the sitting room with kitchenette and separate bedroom were both spacious and each featured welcome air conditioning. There is a TV set in the apartment with a limited number of channels but that was rarely used. An in room safe was also available. Everything was clean and tidy and kept that way on a daily basis.
I found the wi-fi connection had a little trouble when inside the apartment but was perfectly adequate when relaxing outside on the balcony. There is a sea view from the balcony but it looks like some new buildings might restrict this a little in future.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend these apartments.

My wife and I are just completing ten days here, it’s our first time in Plakias and we have been very pleased with both the town and the Hotel. We had a standard studio which was plenty big enough for the two of us, bigger rooms and apartments are available here if required. We booked direct with the hotel, so all the money goes into the local economy and not to somebody like Booking.com and we didn’t pay anymore by doing this. Communication with the hotel was good at all times.
Our studio had a wardrobe with two drawers, two bedside cabinets, a dressing table, stool, stand for a case, collapsible bed (which doubled as a seat) and a double bed with lovely comfortable mattress and topper. The small kitchen area had everything we needed, fridge, two ring hob, kettle, sandwhich maker, cutlery, plates and so forth.
First thing we noticed was how clean the room was, even the sandwhich toaster, which had seen some use, was clean and not covered in grease or the remains of previous meals as we have seen in other places. There is air conditioning in the rooms and fly screeens at the window and balcony doors, which is fantastic and not that common. There is a small safe in the room but it’s not big enough to hold a tablet or laptop which is a shame. The same standard of cleanliness was evident everywhere else to, including the pool and gardens. Our room was serviced every day with fresh bedding and towels every three days. The bathroom actually has a shower cubicle an improvement over the usual wet room approach. However the inclusion of the cubicle does make the space for the toilet a bit cramped but even as a big guy and can live with that.
There are plenty of sun beds around the pool and areas with tables where you can sit in shade if you want. The hotel offers breakfast, €6 per person but you need to let them know the day before if you are wanting breakfast. We didn’t use this service but a few others did and they seemed satisfied with what they received. There is no bar or drink service so you can bring your own food and drink to the pool if you wish. Staff are friendly but you don’t see a great deal of them, though they are around during the day if required.
Most days we had the pool to ourselves but most of the people we did meet were repeat guest some who had been coming here for many years and we can see why. Set back a short 5 minute walk from the beaches and sea front it’s an area of peace and quiet with little to disturb the calm. There are supermarkets and tavernas within an easy level 5 minute walk as well as a pharmacy and other shops. We had a car and there is plenty of parking both sides of the hotel. The hotel faces roughly south so has full sun on the pool area all day but the building provides a degree of protection from the sometimes strong northerly winds that can be felt in Plakias from time to time.
There is a small library where you can swop books, there are a few boards games and a selection of beach items left by other residents that you are welcome to borrow. The wife is pretty good but as we had an end room it didn’t quite reach inside although if you stood on the balcony you could just about use it however around the pool the signal was good.
Only suggested improvements I could make would be a bigger safe, to take tablets or laptops, bigger bath towels (for those of us who are a little on the large side) and try to boost the WiFi a little so coverage is good in all rooms but none of this are major and won’t stop us coming back. As for room recommendations, can only comment on the standard studios but here I would go for rooms 1,3 or 5 on the upper floor as they have a shaded balcony where as our room, number 6, has full sun all day and so too hot to eat breakfast on.
As I said this was our first time to Plakias and we loved it. We’ve visited Crete many times but usually the north coast and we were getting rather board with the same old tourist places. Plakias has been a breath of fresh air and revived our interest in Crete. The tavernas long the front are a bit of a disappointment, all serving the same menu with varying degrees of success. However we did find one exception a small Cypriot restaurant by the bridge, Lysseos, which we found to be excellent and well priced too.
We took the Finikas boat trip to Preveli, had drives to Rethymno and Aghia Galini as well as eating up behind Plakias in Mirthios which we would recommend. The two beaches in town are quite different. The one to the east along the front is a fine shingle beach which leads into a sandy bottomed gently shelving seabed. The other to the west seems to be full of large rocks but this is actually large lumps of very old concrete the history of which I haven’t discovered but which makes for some nice snorkelling with a reasonable selection of fish present. Sun bed sets on each are €6 for two beds and a umbrella. There are however plenty of other beaches within a short drive.

Mr Manolis not only runs a spotlessly clean, comfortable, quiet, spacious and well-appointed facility in the best location in Plakias, but he is a gentleman and helped us when some of our plans went awry. Do not pass up the opportunity to stay in one of his apartments when in or near Plakias. We will certainly be back. Thank you Manolis.
