Very friendly and flexible owners. We felt welcome from the start. The rooms and the pool are very clean. They serve a very good breakfast. They have free parking and the hotel is within walking distance from the beach and centre of Plakias.

We travelled with a group of friends to Plakias in June 2012. Our stay at Irida Plakias was excellent.

The hotel is located at 10 min walk from the centre, but it is a very easy walk. By car, it takes you about 1 min! On the plus side: this means the hotel is located in a very quiet area, which was nice

The rooms are simple but very adequate: nice tiles on the floor, good matrasses, small desk, big closet, good shower and a pretty view from the balcony (from the 1st floor), . The rooms are also equipped with a small kitchen area (fridge, sink, cooking plates, knives, forks, pots & pans,...). The rooms are cleaned almost every day (except sunday when we were there), and every day there were also fresh sheets and towels. A/C is available at 6 euro/ day or 40/week.

There are only 9 rooms, so it was always very calm to take a swim in the georgeous little pool, or to take a rest on the terras next to the pool. We loved the area next to the pool: there is a poolbar and you can sit in the shade and enjoy a drink or play a game,..The garden is also kept meticulous.

We ate breakfast there every morning, and we were full until late in the afternoon: bread, eggs, jam, butter, tomato, olives, ham, cheese, fresh yoghurt with honey and fruit,...
On our last night we had diner there, cooked by Maria and Manolis, and it was the best meal we had during our holiday!

The best part of staying in Irida Plakias is not the rooms, or the grounds or the pool, but the owners: Maria en Manolis are the most open and warm people we met in a long time and they really go out of their way to make you feel at home. They are also both very funny, so we had a great time :-) Oh, and don't forget their 2 cats and cute litle dog: they also win you heart after 5 minutes!

The little studios of the Hotel Irida in Plakias are a joy. Manolis is the host and he keeps everywhere clean, tidy and welcoming. The rooms are cleaned daily and he is scrupulous about the cleanliness of the pool and the pool area. The studios are in an olive grove by the main road, but this is not noisy or intrusive. Manolis will serve an excellent contintental breakfast for 5 euros each, served by the pool and the meal will keep you going until mid afternoon. His coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice makes the breakfast that little bit special. The rooms are not spacious but more than adequate with a fridge and a kettle and a small cooker. Just a very short walk away is a spotless supermarket and the best end of the town beach with plenty of space for all. Highly recommended.

These apartments are in an ideal location, a 5 min walk to the centre of the village or a 3 min walk to the beach but nice and quiet at night. The rooms are a bit basic but the owner does everything he can to look after you really well. Even though it is self-catering he and his wife will rustle up a meal if you give them a couple of hours notice and an excellent breakfast is available at a very modest price.
So many eating places to choose from in the village, all seem good but the restaurant attached the 'Alianthos Beach Hotel' not only serves up wonderful food(pick from the menu not the buffet) but the two guys staffing it were so much more than waiters. You know who you are guys, thanks for making our meals such a delight.

During our 2 week stay we stayed in room 3 and room 6. Both were spotless and very comfortable. Overlooking the olive groves with room 6 being on the higher floor so with the added advantage of a better view of the mountains and a glimpse of the sea.

Maria and Manolis, the owners, were really helpful and kind. We were really impressed with the high quality deep mattresses on the beds and lovely clean white sheets. This really helped you get a good nights sleep along with shutters that kept the morning light out so the room was nice and dark.We were having 10 hour sleeps! There was some road noise but I didn't find it too intrusive so I wouldn't let it put you off.

We enjoyed how the apartment was so convenient to all the attractions of Plakias.

Beaches
Turn right and first right down a track for 3 mins to get to the nicest end of Plakias beach. Turn right up the main road for 5mins then at the crossroads its only a 40 minute walk through the olive groves to Daminoni beach. Or head into town for good snorkelling on the beach in front of the beach football pitch - never used when we were there.

Shopping
5 mins walk down the main road brings you to a fantastic bakery and next door a supermarket and next door to that a fruit and vegetable store - all very conveniant.

Tavernas
You are spoilt for choice in Plakias and all very reasonable. We ate in 12 different ones and did not have a bad meal and we are hard to please. Highlites though were chicken souvlaki wrapped in bacon at Sifi's, Roast lamb in Manioko's up a side road, Beef stifado in Gioma, lamb chops in Apenema. All wonderful!

We really enjoyed our holiday and were lucky to have 14 days of sunshine. I would certainly recommend a holiday at The Irida - Efharisto!

My wife and I have been going to Plakias for the last 26 years so have stayed at many accommodations' there. We found the Irida to be a very comfy place to stay. It was one of the best equipped studios we have stayed in with lots of plug sockets throughout. This may sound strange but a lot of studios and apartments have very few and trying to charge things is a nightmare but not here.
They have all been renovated and they have done a very good job of the works. The bathroom though small was immaculate, and very modern. Cooking facilities where standard 2 rings you also have a sandwich toaster. There is a hairdryer for the ladies . overall the accommodation was excellent.
The only reason I have not given the Irida an excellent is because and this may not effect everyone is the location. It is situated on the edge of the village. Not a long way out but after a few beers and a glass or two of raki it can seem that way.
Overall a brilliant stay going back to Plakias in April cannot wait.

We returned to Plakias for our fourth visit in July of this year and this was our first stay in Irida. It was our 3rd trip with Olympic and would definitely rate this accommodation as the best of the 3 we have stayed in Plakias through Olympic Holidays. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathrooms are new. Our room was also freshly painted with some new furniture in it. No doubt with time and money, the kitchenette area will be modernised as well. The pool area is really well kept with a lovely garden area as well. Maria's and Manolis' cats are very friendly and the black and white one regularly jumps onto a sunlounger to snuggle against whomever happens to be on it at the time! There is also wifi at the pool area which with a fair wind (of which there was plenty), we could pick up in the room. The location of this accommodation is spot on and we really didn't notice the road noise very much. Would recommend Irida without hesitation. Our pick up was very early in the morning and we forgot to say farewell and thank you to Maria and Manolis the day before we left so I hope they read this review with our appreciation.

Stayed at Irida the last 2 weeks in October. For us the location was just right, others may want to be in the centre of Plakias. It's located about 10 minutes outside Plakias as you come into the resort from Rethymnon, on the roadside so there is some roadnoise, but quieter than being in Plakias centre. The hotel pool is located at the back of the apartments so less noise and you don't see the road. There are 9 rooms, none of them are sea view and they face west which means you do not get sun on the balconies in the morning which meant it was a bit chilly in Oct for eating breakfast on the balcony, but wouldn't have been an issue in the warmer months. The beach is just a 5 minute walk from the studios, turn right and immediately right beside a large red shop. This takes you to the best part of Plakias beach. Turn left into Plakias and in 7 mins you are at the supermarket which sells fresh bread and everything else you could want. It's about a 10/15 mins stroll into Plakias.
The rooms are basic and smaller than some we have had in Greece but they are kept very clean, the mattresses were very comfortable and the sheets and towels changed every second day. The bathroom is a wet room, i.e. no shower tray, and there was hot water every day. The rooms also have shutters to keep out the early morning light which was great for good long sleeps.
The kitchen area is just a sink unit with a small work surface taken up by a 2 ring cooker, there is a kettle but no toaster and not a lot of crockery or cutlery but with a good fridge and ice cube trays. We would definitely be happy to return to this accommodation

We chose the Irida Studios for our sixth visit to Plakias, having viewed the place last October when we stayed at the Kostas Chrysoulla. Just out of the centre of Plakias about a 10/15 min walk to the centre, with a supermarket and a nice bakery just down the hill. The rooms were not the biggest but adequate, the bathrooms had just been refurbished to a very high standard, but were the usual small room. The beds were amongst the most comfortable we had encountered in 30 years travelling around the Greek islands. Maria and Manolis were usually on hand if you needed them and were always smiling with a cheery word. The equipment in the rooms were a bit basic (typical Greek) with the kitchen equipment a bit sparse - no cereal bowls or toaster, but, hey, it isn't the end of the world. The crowning glory was the pool area, a nice relaxing place with the advantage of a pool bar that also served snacks, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. Overall a nice place to stay in a nice area away from the bustle of the centre.

Wow ! what a wonderful place to stay ! Maria & Manolis are wonderful ! We were dubious of the transfer time (took us 2 hours and 45 minutes on the big transfer coach with Olympic,( but we did have many drop off points along the way)) we'd already had a long day, and were glad to reach Irida at 4.45am and climb into bed almost immediately.. very comfortable nights sleep too.. the shutters keep it nice and dark and the beds are very comfy. The pool area is usually very quiet, and at most there were maybe 6 or 8 people there through the day. The bar is small and has many available drinks and snacks... there's a small menu, and Maria will cook for you through the day from breakfast to dinner ! The cleaner is in on a daily basis, and sheets/towels changed every other day or so. The nearest supermarket is a few minutes stroll down towards Plakias, however, bottled water/soft drinks can be bought from the butchers just over the road. The walk to the seafront/bars and tavernas is just half a mile away, a lovely walk there and back once the sun has gone down behind the mountains. Luckily we avoided the strong winds that can happen here through July/August, only on our last day were the winds quite strong. We needed a relaxing, peaceful holiday.. and this is exactly what we got... enough taverna's and bars to have a good night without it being overly busy. We will certainly be returning in the future!
