Really enjoyed our stay here. Located amongst a nice residential estate and within a gated golf club area, the entrance and lobby is extremely upmarket and modern. Front desk staff were friendly and efficient and we had assistance to our room with our luggage. The room itself was very spacious with modern furniture and the bathroom had twin sinks, a large walk-in shower plus bath tub. Everything was very modern and well appointed. Breakfast was a good buffet style and very good. We had an issue with our dinner reservation, which I'd made months previously but it turned out that this had not been forwarded to the restaurant, so that was a bit stressful (on Valentine's night) initially but after a few minutes it did get resolved. We had a 90 minutes couples massage in the spa which was both fabulous and really good value to us UK citizens. Only disappointment here was the swimming pools. One is in a courtyard setting which is a nice pool but with zero views, the other one is overlooking the golf course but the pool itself was dirty and generally shabby and not at all inviting. For the price though, this is an excellent choice for Johannesburg and we will definitely be returning.

Hotel is nice and clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is beautiful. Breakfast was good as well, stall always come and ask if we need any help. House keeping team would check on daily and change sheets and clean the room and make it up.

The hotel is beautiful and situated on a gorgeous golf course very close to Cresta Shopping Centre - however it feels like you are in the country.
I checked in for 3 nights - looking forward to baths each night as I have only showers at thome - and was warmly welcomed by the reception team (not my first stay there so I was happy to return).
I was given a room close to the pool and at first, all appeared well. The room is well appointed and very spacious with a gorgeous bath and shower. The bath however leaked out all the water and despite adjusting the pop-up plug, the water loss was significant and I eventually gave up the idea of a bath. By the way, the washbasins also leaked out all the water. I then reported it and apparently it was 'fixed' by the maintenance team the following day. Needless to say, the bath still leaked ( but slightly less this time). I again reported it for fixing the next day. The next day, I was moved to a gorgeous suite, the Ernie Els suite, which was truly lovely and much appreciated. I couldnt wait to have a bath!
I ran the bath and went to make a cup of tea. I arrived back in the bathroom and .... voila! no water in the bath. Exactly the same problem AGAIN! Both washbasins also leaked by the way as I was trying to revive a bouquet of flowers in one of them and found after two minutes, the basin was empty.
A few other things were wrong too - the gas fire in the room wouldnt automatically ignite - you needed a lighter (I'm a non-smoker). The curtain had come off the rail. The TV in the bedroom would not switch off and also only had a very soft volume level that could not be increased.
On a positive note, the breakfasts were awesome and the general staff really helpful, professional and service orientated. The maintenance team however, needs to be challenged on the plumbing/water losses in the rooms. So I never did get my bath that I so desperately wanted in all the 3 nights I stayed there...

Rather entertaining that a 5 star establishment does not serve anything other than Ricoffy and tea with a paid breakfast. Really. To have an americano , cappuccino or anything that requires good coffee is an extra charge. Wow. The breakfast buffet is decent, with a cold and hot breakfast offering, egg station. I happened to ask for peanut butter , the kitchen & restaurant advised there is no peanut butter on the premises. Not sure why, if they have pork on the premises and serve nuts! The room was great size and comfortable beds. Cleanliness is questionable though.
Clare was my best highlight, she moved mountains to improve our stay.

The location is quiet. The golf course is beautiful. My room was decent. The hotel itself is not as impressive as I expected. This is not a 5-star hotel. They seem stingy with drinking water. I requested for additional bottles of water as the ones in the room were small, and got only one extra. I was willing to pay for more bottles, and to my surprise, I was told that no other bottle is available. I could not regulate my AC. Food quality is average.

In general, a nice hotel, but which needs some renovation in the bathrooms and on some furniture. The furniture on the balcony was completely torn. Nobody of the staff came to the idea to have it changed. We had to request it, since it was unacceptable (see pictures). The water in the shower was stuck. We had to ask twice at the reception to have it checked and repaired. This should be done in the first place. The food and service were very good; nothing to complain about. The only thing that we do not understand is that the cappuccino, espresso and hot chocolate have to be paid separately. This should be included in the breakfast package of such a multi-star hotel. This was quite disappointing. The staff brought the cappuccino, espresso and hot chocolate without telling us and at the end presented us the bill. This is not good customer service. The guest should be informed beforehand about the extra charge when requesting the drinks. That would be correct - not the other way around.

After being delayed at OR Tambo for more than 2 hours we arrived at the hotel at 22.00. We had to unpack our bags and load the trolley while the reception staff looked on from inside. Not really welcoming! The rooms have seen better days, the one wash hand basin was blocked, the shower hose was leaking and the TV remote didn't work. We reported the TV remote each morning and after 4 days it hadn't been seen to. The breakfast service varied, on the last day we had to fetch our own coffee as it seemed that the restaurant was understaffed. Upon checking out I noticed a transport fee on my invoice, when I queried it, I was asked whether is was not using it to travel to the airport, even thought it was added to the invoice 2 days earlier. When I asked to see the slip that related to the transport fee, it was made out to a person with another surname, but with our room number. I also had my own car that I was using, so check your bill carefully when checking out.

Upon arrival we were checked in to a room where a light was broken, the router was ripped off and just looked messy. We got to change rooms, however that was a mission because the alternative was a room which smelled like sewage. 3rd room lucky, however the basin was blocked and we were told that maintenance woulf look into it the next day. So far not bad... Massage time at The Fairway Spa : we booked a 60 min full body and a facial for my partner and a foot massage for my self. I had an amazing time however my partner can't say the same. Her feet and face were massaged at the same time by the same person, which as a regular is unheard of. The therapist wiped her face (as she was sweating) with the same towel she put on my partners face. Again, unheard of. At this time my partners face started burning because of the use of products used on her face that the therapist wasn't sure about. At this point not the Birthday I've imagined. And it just gets worse as we planned on having a fine dining experience as advertised everywhere. Since it was a hot day I only packed shorts and was worried about the dress code as it stipulated strictly long pants. I asked about wearing shorts and the receptionist said it's OK as long I'm wearing closed shoes. As we get to the empty restaurant where dishes from lunch were still lying around, we get seated on a dirty table, which they then had to sweep popcorn, grapes, chips and straws away for us. As we anticipate the fine dining, we get a lunch Menu which included sandwiches and wraps. All of this was supposed to be a romantic birthday surprise. Imagine having to get all dressed up as it was my birthday for that mess. We decided to go have dinner elsewhere and where forced to stay as our " fine dining" was included in our payment package, at this point it wasn't about the money, we had to leave. At our return, all we wanted was a hot bath, but AGAIN the joke was on us...There was no hot water! No Hot water and no maintenance on site. Because we only live 30 min away at 11pm we decided to leave. A Birthday turned into disaster!

The staff at the resort are very friendly from reception. The waiters can be more organized when serving such as ensuring proper cutlery is on the table before the food arrives. The room was pleasant and well set up. The remotes for TV should be checked before each stay to ensure it is operational. The menu is very limited and the same for any meal of the day. There are areas advertised on the internet but closed when enquire when checked in , then we are told they are closed.

It is R550 per trip from Lanseria. The vehicle can seat up to 3 pax, depending on the amount of luggage.

There are two pools available at The Fairway Hotel & Spa. With the electricity problems in the country, we have stopped heating the main pool. Sorry, no heated pool. (Leon Bosch - Operations Director)
