Detailed Reviews
What this hotel lacks in shiny newness and the fanciness of the New Hotels in Sandton City it more than makes up for in its welcoming hospitality.
The rooms are incredibly spacious and spotlessly clean as are the numerous public areas. The beds were very comfortable with lovely pillows. The bar is cosy and serves a wide range of drinks. Breakfast was served daily in the bright, airy restaurant and could if wished be eaten on the veranda overlooking the pool. Breakfast itself was table service instead of buffet due to Covid19. It was still very plentiful, with cereal, fruit, yoghurt, a pastry, full cooked breakfast and toast. The restaurant was mostly closed the rest of the time due to reduced numbers as like many hospitality venues worldwide this hotel has been affected by the pandemic. However, the hotel is also a conferencing centre and when they had large groups staying we had the opportunity to have the set lunch or dinner which we did on a couple of occasions, the food was plentiful, fresh and tasty.
But what sets this hotel apart from many of the 5* hotels I have stayed in around the world is the staff. Everyone we encountered from the security guard at the gates to the reception staff, cleaners, waiters, bar staff were welcoming, friendly, polite and could not have been more helpful. We felt safe, secure and very well looked after. So much so that we cancelled our 4 night stay in Sandton City and extended our stay at The Apollo. Eloise who is the reception manager hooked us up with Sydney of Nzewe Tours who we spent a fantastic couple of days with on a Safari and a tour tailored to what we wanted to see and nothing was too much trouble.
If you’re looking for a posh fancy hotel where you are just another guest this hotel is not for you. But if you are looking for a friendly hotel with great facilities where you are treated like an old friend where nothing is too much trouble then The Apollo should be your first choice.
We had to make this trip so South Africa as our Uncle had passed away and we had a lot to attend to, everything was made easier by the kindness and help of the hotel staff. We need to return in the New Year and The Apollo Hotel will be our first and only choice for accommodation.

The hotel staff where very professional and helpful . It's indeed a home away from home. The management must consider adding the breakfast charge to the accomodation rate so as to avoid the inconvenience of additional breakfast charge

I loved the room, it was spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was a real English breakfast, fresh and made on arrival. Load shedding schedules were pasted on the lifts so we don't use lifts 10min before power cuts. The generator kicks in very quick it's like there is no load shedding.

TV remotes and air cons rarely ever work. This is something that I would let sly for a standard room, however, I visit the hotel at least once a week and this has been the case with almost every luxury room I have stayed in.
Not Luxury material, if you know what the word means.

The room was nice inside but there were a lot of things I wasn't happy with. The carpet looked dirty with stains all over. The bar fridge in my room wasn't working and I couldn't connect to the Wi-Fi because it was weak, had to use my own router the whole week. The receptionist was not friendly, especially when I was checking out. She just took the key and went about her business lol. Only positive was the maintenance guy who helped open my suitcase when the lock was jammed. He was a God send and very friendly too.

The atmosphere was tense and unfriendly. The tiles in the shower can be cleaned and the black to be removed.

This is my go to hotel when in the Randburg area. Load shedding is not a problem and WiFi is great to access entertainment or social media on my tablet. I have no complaints whatsoever- breakfast is good, larger than normal rooms and friendly efficient staff makes Apollo a value for money hotel.

When i travel to Randburg for work, I always stay at th eApollo Hotel. It is close to my workplace, it is affordable and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and I really enjoy my stay. The rooms are comfortable and has all the expected amenities. A breakfast is included and dinners are also served. Dinners are a la carte or buffet (when available) and especially the buffet is worth it.

Apollo was value for money. I arrived at the reception at 9pm, thereabout, and was warmly welcomed. The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean and huuggee. They also have a bathtub which I thoroughly enjoyed. In the morning, the sun was up by 5am, the curtains were thick enough to block the sunlight. My room had a beautiful view of the city and I could see the jacaranda trees in bloom. Went for breakfast which was lovely. I had a late appointment the following day, and they graciously allowed me to check out late. I felt very safe during my stay.
