As soon as I arrived at this incredible accommodation and was climbing the steps up to the house, I was taken to Barbery Lane in San Francisco, the set of the incredible NETFLIX series called 'Tales Of The City'. Being welcomed by Mark and Lisa ( or was it Marianne Singleton and Mouse) was a pleasure and I immediately felt welcomed and 'at home'. No sign of Anna Madrigal though...The views of the city in the distance are breath-taking and the energy in the home made me feel nostalgic and secure. Thank you guys for an incredible stay and I shall have my hold memories of my own tales of the city close to my heart for years to come!
I loved it at Northcliff View - where there are indeed fantastic views across the green countryside all the way to the city. The facilities & attention to detail cannot be faulted. Simple essential breakfast provisions, a very drinkable bottle of SA wine plus the delivery of freshly baked bread were much appreciated. Great comfortable guest space, with all mod cons. If you have the energy you can take the short walk or run up to the water tower for even more spectacular views! Good location - close to good restaurants & shopping options, feels safe & welcoming. I will definitely be back - hopefully with friends & family to fill the magnificent villa 😍
I had the absolute pleasure of staying here. Clean, everything works. Great hosts very helpful and made my few days in Joburg a really relaxing and great business trip. I will recommend it hands down to everyone.
Stayed in their villa over Christmas 2018 and into the New Year and the hosts received us very well and made sure that we were settled in and everything was in place for us. They gave us a quick but very helpful tour of the house which helped to get us familiar with the place pretty quickly. As we arrived, what first hit us was the view. We immediately understood why they named it The Northcliff View. But more on that later! The villa we stayed in is a beautiful stone under thatch structure perched right on the edge of Northcliff hill. The living area is an open plan double height space with lots of light and even a fireplace to make it quite cozy. There are two ensuite bedrooms, one upstairs, and a double sofa bed downstairs where our 2 young boys slept as we wanted them closer to us. The two ensuite bathrooms had bathtub, shower, toilet and ample closet space, a third bathroom had shower and toilet plus hot water too. Both bedrooms are quite spacious and also have large windows to take full advantage of those views I mentioned earlier. Speaking of which, the views of Joburg CBD, Rosebank and Sandton were breathtaking! There is a spacious porch leading out from the living area and the downstairs bedroom. This allowed us to take full advantage of the views and the lovely breeze on the hot days. There is a gas braai on the porch, we made use of it every chance we got. The kitchen is full, with all necessary utensils and appliances including washing machine and dryer. We immediately felt at home the moment we arrived. We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the free high-speed wifi and the TV which had full Netflix and YouTube plus DSTV which had all the Supersport channels allowing me to keep up with the English Premier League matches and much more. The kids were also happy to watch their fav cartoons. There was a bookshelf with a selection of novels which my wife quickly settled into as we relaxed. This was enhanced by the serenity of the place, it's such a quiet, relaxing place. There are a number of things to do nearby and we had a picnic at Emmarentia Dam about 6mins drive away, we drove to the top of Northcliff Ridge where we got more views. There are many many restaurants around and we had our pick of where to eat out, though the house was just so cozy we elected to stay in and cooked most nights. Cresta Mall was about 2-3km away and catered for all our shopping needs (mostly my wife's). All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would certainly return next time we want a quick escape in the city where we still feel at home.…
This was the coolest house I have ever slept in. The Villa is everything and a bit more.. It has to be seen in real life. Inside is very spacious with a large living room with sliding doors opening up to balcony with 180* view of the whole city. Allegedly BBC used the upstairs house terrace to film during FIFA World Cup in 2010. Northcliffe is a nice area with lots of green space and good shops for organic foods, fresh baked bread etc. Perfect place to relax. The host couple is very friendly and accommodating. If I go back to Joburg I would not stay anywhere else.
Despite being close to a big city, you feel like you are close to nature as well, especially the birds! The garden and views were amazing and the staff couldn’t do enough to make my stay comfortable. Great place for families and work groups.
You can really feel that the house is designed with experience and dedication. The location is very safe and the neighborhood is gorgeous. The hosts are great people that make you immediately feel at home.
The place exceeds expectations. We went there on three separate occasions while our house was being renovated. Three of us, two adults and young son. The views are stunning and the house is lovely. It truly feels like you are far away from the city. The hospitality is awesome and we will be visiting again with friends. Mark you are awesome! and thanks Johan for sharing your house and being so welcoming. Tsebiso & Eugenia
We took a bit of a chance by staying here this weekend, because we couldn't find any information. Turns out they're brand new and we were among the first people staying there. I am so glad we took the chance! We were welcomed by Mark, the manager, who was extremely welcoming and friendly. Such a great guy, who is friendly without being forward, and attentive without being intrusive. The house is beautiful, set in the Northcliff hills, with views of the Joburg CBD, the Sandton skyline, and the leafy suburbs below. At night, the twinkling Joburg lights were stunning. Our room was comfortable and beautifully made up, old style, natural wood furniture to match the exposed trusses, but all the comforts of home. Although they do not currently offer meals, we were so thoughtfully provided with a selection of cereals and yogurt and the best smelling bread (wheat allergy means that I couldn't taste it), as well as juice and bottled water. I thought this was a lovely gesture, and was surprised when it was refilled the next day. The level of detail with each room was awesome. We were the only ones in the house, so did some snooping. Each room is spacious and stylish, and has it's own little signature thing. Ours had the best view. Another, a beautiful bath, and the third had it's own little garden space. Honestly, I'd love to keep this little gem to myself, but it deserves to be experienced by others. We will definitely be back soon.…
