I went to Valley Lodge with a friend. Although the hotel had a large corporate group in house, the service was good and the food was excellent! Sitting on the patio one can see the sparkling swimming pool with ample deck furniture. Zebras grazing on the lawn makes one feel that one is truly at a country retreat and a short walk from the patio, where we sat, is a beautiful river. Although we did not stay over, I would recommend Valley Lodge for anyone wishing to have a special lunch in a beautiful setting.

The inner of the sheets had blood stains. The bed in room 32 has dust one can clearly see they never lift the bed to clean. They do not disclose the roof is thatch and if you have sinus condition like I do, you are in trouble. I saw cockroach in the kitchen buffet when I was about to dish up and brought it to the waiter's attention and he just killed it and moved on like it's not a big deal. Overall, not impressed at all...The Spa experience was great though..

My stay at Valley Lodge and Spa was simply spectacular. The service was really good. The restaurant served really scrumptious meals and the winter special was real value for money. The spa was also really great. However I was disappointed that the hydro pools in the spa were out of service.

My husband booked a picnic with you for Saturday the 21st March – as we were going to stop for the picnic on our way to our holiday, he specifically requested that he be accommodated at 10h30.

Our picnic basket was only made available to us at 11h40 – our first disappointment which necessitated alternate plans be made for our ongoing travel arrangements.

Our picnic basket was presented to us and was not at all what was promised or paid for!

Items which were on the menu but were missing from our basket with NO explanation:

1) Roasted Baby Chicken – instead we were given two “out of the box” plastic cordon bleu’s ice cold with all the cheese in the middle missing
2) Pepper Steak Pie
3) Panini with Parma Ham, mustard, lettuce. Emmenthaler Cheese and red onion
4) Greek Salad with corn, nuts & seeds
5) No whole grain mustard with the cold meat selection
6) 3 – yes only THREE crackers with the cheese collection
7) Peppadew & Cheese Rissoles
8) Apple, Orange, Mint & Strawberry Spritzer
9) Chocolate Truffles
10) Cupcakes
11) Chocolate dipped Strawberries

Given that this was the menu we chose and paid for, it is unacceptable that so many items were not in the basket.

Not worth the money, do not expect what is advertised. Mice found in luxury room, was then moved to another room where wifi stopped working, was then moved again to another room, packing and unpacking the entire time. No breakfast service on Monday morning, and when it was eventually catered for, the food was clearly from previous days, just warmed. Very disappointed.

I will start with the positive. The breakfast was delicious. Not correctly served but delicious nonetheless.

The room was dated and very, very dark. It felt somewhat oppressive. The grounds look quite unkept and tatty. Our dinner experience was abysmal. Limited and very expensive menu but even then both options my wife requested were unavailable. And who charges R120 for a pizza made with frozen, store bought bases (which they did not even have). Service was uninspired and uninspiring. We ended up have 2 small soft drinks (R31 each I might add) and leaving to eat at the nearby Mount Grace.

All in all, not good value for money at all. Save your money and opt for any number of other properties nearby or book at Mount Grace and actually get what you pay for.

The restaurant needs some serious work. The menu doesn't have many choices, the food that is served is very bad. the waiters are slow and not knowledgeable at all about what is being served. The food that does get served is not what is described on the menu and we had to send one meal back as it was inedible.

I visited Valley Lodge &Spa recently and I must say I wasn't impressed with the service I recieved, below are some salient points as to why I will NEVER returen for a spa treatment there:

● Firstly , The staff was not friendly at all. They lacked energy and passion to do their job. They didn't bother to show or sell me the spa treatment product range. When I went in for the massage treatment the lady never introduced herself to me.

●Spa Facilities : The sauna had no water, the towels were limited there were no towels in the Female and Male bathrooms, the steam room didint meet my expectations ,the spa isn't well maintained and its starting to decay.Toilets where never cleaned during my stay there.

●I think the problems mentioned above are caused by management issue than the staff.

The spa has great potential.!!

We stayed at Valley Lodge for 2 nights in July with friends. We were 2 families with kids. Accommodation was comfortable and clean. The rooms along the river have lovely views and a great space to relax on a picnic blanket and enjoy nature and the animals resident to the property - we saw loads of zebras and buck. The property also has short hiking trails.
On our first day the food was amazing. The taste and presentation impressed us. However there seems to be an inconsistency and our second day was completely different. Even with meals which we had ordered the previous day. We were told there was a different chef on each day and hence the difference in experience. The experience was disappointing. Having to wait extra long for meals. And receiving cold food.
The spa has a beautiful setting. The therapists are lovely and the massage was relaxing. However I don’t believe the staff are properly trained, which leads to an underwhelming experience. Rooms were cold and the therapists hands and oils were also cold. These finer details can detract from the overall experience.

I booked a few hours before arrival.
The gentleman taking the booking was extremely efficient
I made a mistake by not changing rooms immediately
Light bulbs were fused , TV was not functional, and the room was simply dated. Breakfast was very average. Staff are trying their best, but for a walk in to have to pay R 3k for poor rooms is unacceptable. I met other guests on a walk, and they too were bitterly disappointed
