Just one hour's drive from Johannesburg, you'll find Saamrus - pet-friendly, self-catering, comfortable and charming farm cottages surrounded by 500 hectares of unspoiled nature, bird life and walking freedom. Saamrus offers 9 private self catering cottages. Some cottages are situated on a steep hill with stunning views while some cottages are at the foot of the hill with lots of indigenous trees around, abundant bird life and close to the river walks.

What a cozy, homely and comfortable little place!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the walking trails, open air and mountain views. Our 3 4-legged babies loved the space of our cottage yard. We stayed in Akasia Cottage which had everything we needed. We will definitely be visiting again!!

Piet my Vrou cottage. Short drive up the mountain to the cottage is quite steep and you do need a 4x4 type vehicle to get there. The cottage was clean, private and had everything needed for the weekend. Very peaceful environment and lovely river walk with doggies.

Very noisy in evening due to informal settlement at the back of property. Dogs bark the whole evening. Not a safe place to be. View is okay and staff is very helpful. But the above noises is really not what you want in a farm and quite atmosphere.

Thank you for your feedback. There is no informal settlement close to us. There is however a portion of land close to us where some black people has purchased the land years ago with RDP money and settled with their families. Only owners and their families are allowed to stay. They do sometimes play music on weekends that can be loud, We see them as neighbors and live in peace with them. Saamrus is a pet friendly venue, so most of our guests come with guests and you will sometimes hear dogs barking. However, guests are not allowed to leave their dogs unattended at the cottages. Saamrus is definitely not a unsafe place to be. We have never had any guests of ourselves attached by anybody in the 16 years that we have owned the farm. All the cottages have basic security and guest can feel safe when going on walks. We have no history of serious security problems.

This was our second time at Saamrus. Annatjie andnher staff are very friendly and accommodating as we wanted to check out a bit later on the Sunday to enjoy the hike again. It was not a problem for them at all! Our 2 Boston Terriers loved every second of Saamrus as well as our 2.5year old toddler. She has never slept so well from all the fresh air and hiking. Will definitely be back and have already sent the details to a couple of friends. Thanks Annatjie and team.
