Mount Grace Hotel & Spa is often commended for its well-appointed amenities, with travelers enjoying the attentive service, well-equipped rooms, and spa and pool facilities. The hotel's atmosphere draws praise for its comfort and charm, especially the fluffy pillows and lively bar scene. Cleanliness is another strong point, with guests appreciating the spotless environment. However, some visitors feel the hotel does not provide sufficient value for its cost, and service can occasionally fall short of being consistently attentive. Room spaciousness is a plus, although noise and room service have been noted as areas for improvement.

We decided to take a short spontaneous break to Mt Grace to getaway and have a break. It was a wonderful stay, the resort is as lovely as ever and staff were friendly and obliging. Covid has changed things a little but the hotel felt safe and had contactless options, pre-packed breakfast buffet and sanitizing stations all over. We enjoyed time in the heated pool and came back feeling rejuvinated.

I chose this spot because it was a short drive from Johannesburg and had been recommended by a relative. I didn’t check any reviews and I’m so glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have booked this hotel. When guests are upset with the service or accommodation they should bring it up with management and it may change their experience around rather than rushing to give negative reviews. Upon arrival I was feeling so disappointed with the room and a few other things however I emailed the man himself “Anthony Da Silva” and he was more than accommodating - in fact he responded to my emails within less than half an hour each time. Not only that - one of the mornings he was driving guests around in the Uber golf carts within the premises himself and he personally apologised for our inconveniences. The property is in need of renovation (hence I didn’t give 5*’s) however they are working on it and whilst it is on the pricey side - you are paying for the location and the view. You will find better hotels in Johannesburg and Pretoria at the same price maybe even less however the location won’t be as beautiful as this.
The spa facilities were great as were the staff and property.

I want to say that I understand what the hype is about around this location, but I am really struggling to do so.

The location is amazing. The rooms are well furnished with more amenities that other places. However, you pay for those amenities and the experience. 25% more than you should in my opinion.

The staff are all very friendly and go out of their way for you around everything.

The food quality and costing pertinent to food is where things fall apart for me. The buffet in the evenings is expensive. And what makes it worse is the fact that I have had much better at guest houses in terms of the quality and taste of the food. We rather switched to room service, the 2nd evening.

The breakfast was better but not up to expectation. You could feel the Service levels drop, as the staff available could simply not cope with the number of guests. The breakfast itself, although not bad was just not at the level that I expected.

It has so much potential. Drop the room prices a bit and up the food quality and experience. It really can be the go to destination.

There are NO COVID protocols in the dining rooms. Everybody is packed in solid and during breakfast there were NO open doors or windows. Long queues to get a cooked breakfast with no social distancing. When we asked if we could rather sit outside for safety the restaurant manager was exceptionally unhelpful. His attitude was "you eat inside or you don't eat". Exactly the same attitude at dinner time.

The restaurant is not run well at all. Typical waiting time for a cooked breakfast was about 20 to 30 minutes of standing in a queue. During one dinner we waiting an hour for our desert.

The food is very overpriced and mediocre.

There are golf carts that are supposed to take you to your room after dinner but the driver was very unfriendly when we 'disturbed' him to take us to our room. So the next night we rather walked.

The only good thing was that the waitress Tumi went out of her way to help us. Thanks Tumi.

Overall I would say that it is not worth it to stay at Mount Grace.

I was utterly disappointed by Mount Grace service levels given the high prices. I paid over R7000 for 2 nights. Upon our first night we had dinner at the restaurant, there was HAIR in my pasta!!! When I complained to the waitress I was given a mere "I'm sorry". Nothing else. I then ordered something else for fear that when they say they will remake it, I will just be given the same dish with the hair removed. This establishment also advertises jacuzzis, hydro therapy pools etc but you can only use them if you book a spa treatment. We booked spa treatments just so we could use the amenities. What a rip-off. So what are we even paying R3500 a night for?! The breakfast was decent but not any particular good. The food was COLD the first morning and better the second morning. The hiking trails are apparently "serene". We passed broken delapidated buildings and old cemeteries in the 2.3km trail. I could have just as well walked in the veld. I will never return to Mount Disgrace.

Dear DeeKayNwO, Thank you for taking the valuable time to provide us with feedback on your recent stay experience. Our sincerest apologies for your poor experience mentioned during your dinner, I understand from your feedback that although all you received was an apology from the waiter, you were able to enjoy an new dish of your choice. We have taken note of your feedback on our breakfast and shared this with our chef and his team. Our spa pool facilities are for the exclusive use of spa guests to ensure that guests who book the spa facilities are able to make us of these pools and to ensure we maintain the peacefulness and serenity of the Spa experience for these guests. We have an outdoor cold and heated pool available for all guests use which is located close to the main building area. We do offer different room types, they differ in size, where they are situated on the property, thatch or non-thatch, different bathroom configurations and also some of our rooms have their own heated plunge pool. All of these different room types are priced differently for the different amenities they have to offer. Our hiking trails are set in the Magaliesberg mountains, the land it is situated on runs alongside land not owned by the hotel, some of the buildings etc you mention also have historical value to them. The grounds are rich in history and offers amazing serene, calm, peaceful and untroubled views of the Magaliesburg landscape. Warm Regards, Anthony Da Silva General Manager

After looking forward to this weekend for a few weeks, our stay at Mount Grace was a complete disappointment. The only redeeming aspect of the stay was the spa and the brilliant therapists.

The hotel and restaurants were abysmal! We arrived on Friday and decided we wanted some lunch at around 2pm. We went to the restaurant seated ourselves since was no wait staff were around. Waited a further 15 min with still no one. Finally got up and went to the bar to ask the bartender for some service. He said he would call someone. After a further 10 min FINALLY someone showed up. We ordered 2 salads and waited and waited and waited. During this time another guest was calling from the terrace to pay her bill. She was calling for service for a good 2/3 minutes to no response from the non-existent wait staff. Eventually she too, got up and went to the bar to pay her bill.
After 30 minutes of waiting the barman came to ask if we wanted to top up our drinks, and we asked him to inquire about the meal. He said he would contact management. 10 min later - still no waiter and no food to be seen. Finally after 45 min our food arrived.

Then to settle the bill, since we couldn’t see our waiter, I got up and asked some other wait staff for the bill. She gave me a look since she was busy talking to her waitstaff colleague and continued to chat with her colleagues and not get the bill. 10 mins of waiting for the bill, and the woman still chatting to her mate with no action to actually do her job, we got up and left. The wait staff then jumped and came running to say we hadn’t paid. We did complain about complete lack of service and arrogance of staff not willing to do their jobs and signed the bill. The service was shocking to say the least and we made a conscious effort to avoid the restaurant during the rest of our stay.

The rooms were awful for 5 star hotel. Dark, and in desperate need of maintenance (broken toilet seat, toilet paper holder and door) and a refurb. At least they were clean.

On check-out the front desk clerk asked about our stay and while we were explaining the poor service he proceeded to ignore us and pick up the phone to have a conversation without excusing himself.
I highly recommend that ALL staff at Mount Grace go on a hospitality and service training course in the near future to ensure no other guests endure the awful experience we endured.

Needless to say this is my last visit to Mount Grace and I gladly share my disappointing experience with friends considering it.

My family and I returned to Mount Grace to celebrate my husbands birthday and what a letdown. Mount Grace is known for its gorgeous gardens, amazing spa facilities and the many different heated and non heated pools. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with great amenities. Reception, spa and golf carting staff were friendly and professional.

For a hotel graded at 5 starts one expects 5 star service in all aspects.
The rooms need to be upgraded- the TV needs an upgrade too at least a LED tv which has a clear screen and not snowy visuals. The food was a real letdown, we ordered a picnic for 2 to be set up in our room and many items were missing. This was addressed with room service but not rectified properly. basically paid upfront for items which never arrived even after pointing this out .

Our dinner experience was also substandard for the amount of money one pays for the ala’carte menu at Rumble. Both mine and my husband’s fish dishes were dry and overcooked. My daughter had the kiddie’s macaroni and cheese which was slapped together(not tasty at all) The service was also not great, we waited a long time for our meals to arrive, the waitering staff seemed disconnected and disorganised.

Was really looking forward to this mini getaway. Stayed in an executive King bed with a private pool. What a waste of money. The room smelt musty the pool pump was not running. The maintenace guy was on leave so the pump was not switched on. The area around the pool had too many rocks making it difficult to access. Loose floor tiles on the steps of the outside area by the room. No sanitiser spray in the room. Only a (one) sanitizer wipe. The spa was overpriced for the package. Very disappointing. No Covid protocols at the buffet. The table linen and cutlery were not replaced after each use. The food left much to be desired. Only 1 restaurant/menu was operating. Limited options. Very disappointing for Tsogo sun. Will definitely not recommend or return.

What an incredible couples weekend away at the amazing Mount Grace Hotel and Spa. We stayed in a luxurious private suite which was so quiet and peaceful as well as very spacious. We spent the evenings sipping on champagne in the heated pool while listening to the sounds of the bush and watching the stars. All the staff members were so friendly and they all went out of their way to make sure our stay was truly memorable. The food was great and plentiful and we particularly enjoyed our picnic and wine lunch in the gardens next to the waterfall, wow what a memorable afternoon! We had plenty of spa treatment spoils and I must say the staff are extremely good at what they do, the treatments were incredible and I could highly recommend a visit to this spa for some pampering. Overall a truly fantastic weekend getaway within an hours drive from Johannesburg. I would highly recommend this place to couples or families looking to escape the city for some well deserved "you" time .

Only once we had been booked in were we told that the Tv and internet connection was not working and that there was a water shortage. We could not even flush the toilet for most of our stay and when we did manage to get some water to bath, it was brown. Could Management not have made a plan to supply all the rooms with some water, Only two small bottles were left by the basin to rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth. Furthermore , we had no tv reception and the power and internet kept cutting off. My daughter kept finding spiders in the room, the kids play area is a disaster and consists of a few books , puzzles and that about sums it up. The pool water is green and the whole place seems unkept and dilapidated. Breakfast as well as the buffet leave much to be desired . I had such high expectations when booking our stay but will leave the Mount Grace Hotel very disappointed and will definitely not be recommending it to anyone .
