Booked in there as a getaway for the night on Saturday. Met at the car by a porter and checked in with great reception from front office staff after enjoying a welcome juice. Rooms quite spacious and neat and tidy. Bar fridge and complimentary tea and coffee - with milk sachets and not powder milk, thank heavens. Bathrooms, especially, in need of repair and refurbishment as well as some looming cracks in the walls. Gardens neat and tidy. Pool area was nice and comfortable. Service by waiters was extremely slow, bordering on non existent and our drinks had to be chased up constantly and even collected from the bar area ourselves. At dinner the drinks order took so long the starters had already been consumed before the drinks arrived. Food at dinner was good but dessert was bad. Malva pudding and custard had burnt and ice cream melted by time we got to eat it. The set up is good and comfortable but I am of the opinion that the waiter/s and staff lack training and supervision. They were, at times, ignorant of what we ordered when it came to the cocktails at the pool, main meal and certain aspects of the breakfast menu. Can't blame them as individuals though, probably no supervision or management present? Didn't see any? Generally really friendly and full points for trying I suppose.

My wife and I needed a weekend away to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. The hotel is quiet with large rooms as standard. Well appointed and very comfortable bed. Breakfasts are hearty and (for us) made to order - room service was optional. A open fire in the bar made for a cozy afternoon. In summer the two pools could be a lot of fun with the one specially designed for kiddies. The staff is ultra friendly and do what they can. Gardens with river running past many units bring a good ambiance and birdlife. The loop on the surrounding roads is just on 10km... a great run at sunrise. A few little but noticable things could have detracted from the weekend - housekeeping needs a checklist. Had a much needed rest!

Myself, Sister and a friend arrived at the Magalies Manor on Saturday the 26 March 2016 after being disappointed at the previous place we have booked.
the staff was friendly and accommodating, we were brooked in very quickly and the Gentleman took our luggage to our beautiful and spacious rooms and settled us in, after that went for dinner, the food was divine the staff at the restaurant were friendly and efficient,
really enjoyed myself.

Very disappointed with this venue.
From entering the gate - security not aware of guests arriving. When booking in all we were told was the room number, what time meals were and no further info as to where to find the dining room etc or any other info about the hotel. We were shocked to see condoms, Vaseline and sanitary pads on display on the reception counter for sale. The room was tatty, curtains poorly hung, marks on the carpet and no water as indicated that would be available and an outdated TV with TV channels selection fuzzy and unclear.
The Receptionist was helpful when requesting water for the room, but was disgusted to hear her been sworn at by management whilst bringing the water to reception - apparently this is the norm for the staff to be spoken to like this by this particular character. Upon asking the management why they speak to the staff in such a manner, we were shrugged off and he went off to the bar not concerned about his guests. The hotel receptionist was very apologetic and concerned.
The venue is tatty, the gardens in a poor state, pool patchy and in general a lot of work is needed in and around this hotel - definitely not a 4 star establishment as claimed.
Packed our bags as soon as possible and left as definitely not a hotel to spend a night a fell comfortable.

Too much to comment on. We were a group of 12 for an end year function. Service was shocking. Did not expect such a reception. Waiters are ill informed of happenings on the Manor. Shoddy unprofessional service. If the Manor does not shake up, won't be back.

I booked at this useless establishment a week ago for a romantic stay this weekend, however despite having a booking confirmation, when I called today just to confirm they could arrange the spa treatments I requested, I was told I had no booking. They have an issue & someone would call me back.

I sent them my booking confirmation only to receive a response that they are fully booked. Nobody has called, and if I hadn't tried to confirm the spa treatments I would have arrived on Saturday as per my booking.

My take, a place that treats its clients this piss poorly doesn't deserve to be in business. I won't support them again.

The whole situation could have been handled so differently, but they just don't care!

I'm totally disgusted!

This is really a nice place for couples, very intimate. Went to this place in May, i was skeptical at first but i swear i was stunned when i got there, the rooms are very nice, neat and very open. The food is amazing. I would recommend to anyone looking for a chilled breeze away from home. VERY NICE PLACE.

Room rented night 29/10/2016 for a wedding taking place in vicinity. Check in service was very average, was given a room not yet fully serviced. There had been a conference for preceding nights, and the non conference guests could not get breakfast morning 29/10/2016. The room for the price was very average in need of a makeover. Pillows on bed lumpy.
Breakfast morning 30/10/2016 was average, took time to come and table not laid. Requested one tea and one coffee, told coffee was finished. Ended with 2 Rooibos tea.
On checking out and on paying outstanding bill was told the card machine was not working so pay by EFT.
In my view sadly the establishment is mismanaged, standards not maintained, and appears staff not all fully trained. Magalies Manor is not value for money for the so called deluxe suites and I cannot add a recommendation.

Room Tip: Ask for one that is not far away from the amenities. Long hot walk on a hot day.

After saving for our 3 night, 4 day get away we have been left feeling so disappointed. On arrival we had to carry all our bags to the room which was quite a walk, with no offer of help. When the room was opened by the manager he quickly apologized for not noticing the torn curtain. The room itself was comfortably set out but we had quite a few issues: Bathroom door didn't close. Bath plug didn't seal - water drained out so only a quick bath could be had. Bed sheets were torn. Pillows were in a shocking state leaving you with a sore neck and feeling unrested. We requested to be moved to another room after our first night (which they organised thankfully) only to have a leaking shower that left the carpets wet.
The overall service from the staff is shocking. It took over an hour and a half for two toasted sandwiches to be served at the pool side. The menus are printed daily but out of ten meal options they only have four or five available due to food not being delivered or some other weak excuse.
On our second last day we ordered room service from a passing waiter (as there are no menus in the rooms and the phone lines don't work due to a lightning strike). My husband was served a completely raw pattie on his hamburger. We took the plate up to reception to show the staff on duty as the manager was not there. We received no apology or feedback that day at all.
On departure the next day the manager apologized and deducted the meal from our final bill.
Overall a very disappointing experience. The gardens are lovely and wild but very unkept. The buildings are not maintained and the dining room and rooms need a serious upgrade and a very good clean. The staff are not trained and this unfortunately leads to them taking the brunt of the complaints. We were not the only guests that requested to be moved to another room and did chat to a few others that were equally disappointed. We will not be returning to Magalies Manor and wouldn't recommend it.

We used this venue for a company strategy planning session for three days. Everything, including the conference facilities, bedrooms, meals and service was outstanding. It is fairly close to Johannesburg and therefor ideal for any breakaway.
