Warthogs is a lower-cost part of Askari Lodge, but the quality of the rooms and the service are equally as great as you would expect in the main lodge, while giving even greater privacy and a sense of real peace. Our dogs were welcomed, the staff gave us great support on everything we needed, and the bathtub - and bathroom itself - is big enough for a romantic experience. The outdoor shower is really a great touch too.

Just as a read up for new visitors
I am a travel agent and I get around quite a bit, mostly to experience what I am selling.
Askari lodge wow...
From the time we arrived ( myself and my two girls 13&6)
It was raining terribly, We were given coffee and hot chocolate and made comfortable and so welcome.
Brenda Karen and Pat at reservations was the first interaction and helped and were so patient with me.

Lunch: Sunday carvery was amazing. food for every taste bud.
Rooms:The rooms were cosy and very well decorated, the linen wow. feather down, under floor heating, Toiletries. The slipper bath was my favorite.
Sherry in the rooms wow...

Breakfast was great A la carte and buffet on certain days.
Dinner: wow Compliments to the chef. I felt like I was overseas. 5 course meal including amuse bouche sorbet etc etc. Everything very well served and garnished like a 5 star restaurant. Joshua served us most of the evenings with a smile. Elias was great as well.

Nandipha at reception, loved your service and willingness to help.
Thuli at housekeeping for bringing us blankets, putting hot water bottles in the beds and a heater so we were comfy ( without asking)
Rangers were also great and made sure we had a game drive before we left, We saw animals up close and had an amazing experience.

Thank you to all at Askari for making our trip memorable. We will be back soon

Thank you

The room was kept clean and neat all the time. The staff was always readily available to assist with an emergency we had. Loved the setup in the room which ensured that we rest and enjoy our sleep.

The food was scrumptious and out of this world. Enjoyed the Elephant feeding time and also interacting with the gentlemen who guided us in feeding them. The place is serene and would not mind visiting the place again.

I made a booking to stay at Askari Game lodge through Booking.com. I checked the images on Booking.com and verified the images on the Askari website. When i made my booking I specifically requested a room with a fire places as the images on both Booking.com and Askari website show inviting warm rooms with a fireplace.

To my horror when I arrived I was told that all the rooms have no functional fireplace and have been fitted with conditioning units. I informed the manager that i specifically wanted a room with a fireplace and that was the only basis for my booking. The manager made little effort to address my concerns. I further explained that the air conditioner also wasnt working and they provided a Gas heater. I spent two nights of what i had hoped would be a romantic few days in a room with no fire place and all the mood and romance that a gas heater can provide.

I normally dont review accommodation but i think anyone booking at Askari must have a fair indication of what to really expect in the room. The rest of the place is lovely and the food is great but a lodge is meant to provide what they advertise and Askari Game lodge definitely doesn't do that.

Great exceptional experience with Spa & game drive activities to help you relax and be close to nature. The dining and kitchen stuff puts a lot of effort to make you feel at home. Would come back and invite others to visit.

Askari Game Lodge & Spa is a must visit. The accommodation is superb. The waiters and other staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Bernard is an asset to the establishment. He is hands on in the kitchen and does not shy away from helping when he sees that assistance is needed. The food was delicious, especially the 28 day matured steak and the chips. We were supposed to be at Askari during April 2020 but with the lock down our visit was postponed to the long weekend in September. It was well worth waiting for.

The facility is easily accessible with a tar road right up to the reception area - so no dirty car or dust.
All the areas are well kept, clean and rooms are fairly private. Staff are friendly and distant enough so that you can enjoy a bit of space but close enough to assist when required.

The property's location is excellent, away from the busyness of the city; however, it frequently experiences power outages. During my stay of five days, there were no generator backups for three days. This caused a sense of unease as I had to spend the nights in complete darkness, occasionally hearing sounds from the surroundings. While the rest of the property was well-lit, my room remained pitch dark at night. Moreover, there was no power or hot water available even during nighttime. This issue started from the day I checked in and persisted throughout the following night. The staff didn't offer any solution except to wait for the power to be restored from the main grid. After multiple inquiries and escalations, I finally received power backup on the third night, which functioned well for three nights before encountering another outage on the night prior to my check-out. Additionally, the availability of Wi-Fi depended on whether the room had power or not.

What a treat to spend some time at Askari Game Lodge & Spa. The resident elephants were an absolute highlight, second to the really great game drives. There are so many interesting things to see and do with a museum that has an amazing collection of ox-wagons and antiques as well as a chapel for weddings. Although I did not make use of the Spa, it really is a beautiful relaxing space to have your treatments. The conference centre is perfectly situated above the Lodge with spectacular views. My room was extremely spacious, comfortable and I am just sorry I couldn't stay longer in my bed. The food was really delicious with so many options that I wanted to try everything on the menu. Service was great with friendly staff. Just to note that if you do need wifi - it is only available in the lounge area and not in the rooms.

We went to Askari on Saturday for the Elephant interaction and bush walk with the Elephants. Amazing experience and I will highly recommend this activity. During the interaction the Elephant were told to kick a ball, which it did and it was better than any kick from a striker playing soccer, the elephant was then asked to pick the ball up and throw it which it also did. We then gave the Elephants 1 apple which it took from our hands, there after a piece of apple was put in your mouth where after the elephant took it from your mouth with its trunk and thereafter a big kiss from the elephant with its trunk straight into your face, our faces required a clean up afterwards, luckily they had wet wipes. The elephant was then told to lay down which it did, we were allowed to touch the elephant which was awesome. After the interaction we took the Elephants for a bush walk to the lodge, we walked at their pace and it took us about an hour and a half to get to the lodge, amazing yet again to walk with them.

Once you get to the lodge they give people the opportunity to feed the Elephants which is also a great experience.

The reserve is open for day visitors, there is a nice restaurant and over lunch times over the weekend the Elephants will be at the lodge over lunch time where people can feed them, the restaurant overlook a water hole and the Magalies Mountains as well as the area where the people can feed the Elephants.

Fantastic experience and would definitely recommend Askari, even if you just visit for the day and relax at the restaurant.

Is this Lodge wheelchair friendly....inside the room and bathroom and outside please?
Answer from Christa B
Randburg
Dear Carol Executive suite no 1 is totally wheelchair friendly, with enough space around the bed as well as the bathroom, which has been adapted for wheel chair use. The bedroom in suite no 10 is wheelchair friendly, but the bathroom has not been changed and the person in the wheelchair will need assistance to move into the shower. The restaurant, spa and museum are all easily accessed by wheelchair - all on level, but there are cobblestone paving which may be tricky to deal with. If we could assist you with a booking, kindly contact Reta at Central Reservations directly 08611 48866 and please advise her of the special requirements. Thank you for your enquiry, we appreciate the business.
