Granted : that this place even exists is a miracle. Perched on the far edge of civilization, it's remarkable that's it is here and as functional and pleasant as it is. There are great beaches and gorgeous hikes, and the proximity of the accommodations to the water is wonderful for sleep. And not enough can be said about the most excellent aspect of our stay: our intelligent and talented guide, Claret. He was a total score. But I don't think it's for everyone, and more importantly, this review is intended to demonstrate what I felt were a few unmet expectations and experiences not detailed on the website or lodge literature. To reach the lodge , you take 2hr flight on a small plane which leaves early in the morning. Upon arrival, there is an extremely bumpy half hour bus ride…
For us it was the best sort of rainforest accommodation - we were close to it and had walks in the forest seeing lemurs, birds, frogs, chameleons etc but didn't have to stay in the humid and closed in rainforest environment, but on a beautiful little bay with sea breezes, an open view and lovely swimming in the sea just steps from our tent! We were very lucky with the weather and had no rain at all and both the transfer boat rides were very calm, taking about an hour each. The food was really excellent, very skilled chefs in a remote spot. It was the best food we ate on this trip (our third) to Madagascar. European meals apart from a Malagasy choice at lunch and Malagasy evening on Fridays. The staff speak no English or French at all but they have a good system to get round…
Look no further this should be on your itinerary when visiting Madagascar. My wife and I took our 5 and 6 year old. We decided to skip Air Madagascar after hearing all the horror stories and used the charter air service. I believe about 2 weeks before our trip Air Mad cancelled all flights to Maroantsetra anyway so we really lucked out booking the charter service. Upon arriving we were transferred for tea and snacks before setting off via boat to Nosy Mangabe. Our guide was Pascal. This guy is a legend and one of the better guides we have ever had on safari. His knowledge about the area, animals and fauna had no end. He was very patient with the children and we stayed with him all 10 days of our trip. The kids slept in a bunk bed in the tent and my wife and I were in…
This was the first hotel in the area and it remains the best of Masoala. Settled into the peninsula of Masoala, it has a direct beach access. It offers a very nice view and experience to the biggest park of Madagascar where the forest meets the sea... I enjoy Masoala Forest Lodge
Masoala Forest Lodge is the best of all worlds. It offers the adventure and excitement of being between rainforest and reef on a remote, lightly visited, ecologically rich peninsula in Madagascar. At the same time, it is such a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that our kids could roam, swim and paddle barefoot from dawn to dusk without a worry. Everything about how the lodge is designed and managed is thoughtful and impressive. It is clear that the Lodge’s support for local communities and eco-friendly measures (e.g. solar power, filtered water, clever building design and use of local produce) are not just for marketing purposes. On the contrary, they are part of the genuine and common sense approach of the owners. Pierre and Maria have created a haven for nature…
