Nestled beneath a quiet grove of red thorn acacia trees, high atop the eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater is Lions Paw Camp. One of a only a few tented properties located in the Ngorongoro Crater Area, this camp was carefully selected for its sense of privacy and intimacy with nature, its panoramic views of the Crater Highlands, and its proximity to the crater floor, a mere 10 minutes! Throughout the year Lions Paw Camp provides the opportunity to view lions, cheetahs, elephant and Buffalo, but even more exciting is the chance to see the rare black rhino.

My friend and I were on Safari and we were actually set to stay at a different camp. However, our guide couldn’t find our correct camp and we stumbled upon Karibu Mara River Camp. They welcomed us with open arms and allowed us to stay the night at their beautiful location so that we could could continue on with our journey the next day. Edward and his team were so lovely, especially after a very long drive and concerns about how to get to our camp. I’m so grateful to Karibu Mara River Camp and will be recommending that the safari company I just used send their clients there from now on!

Property's Favourite Review
This place exceeded my expectations and was the third lodge of my trip. I had to shift my mindset to recognize lodge vs hotel. When I rate them a 5, I’m not holding to the standard of a hotel. After staying in 3 different camps/lodges, I see the difference as staying in a luxury campsite where the rooms are spacious and strong tents with many of the same amenities you’d see in a hotel. This place had the basics of electricity and running water which is a must after a long day of safari activity. Since it’s essentially in the mountains, heat is necessary which it had. The views were amazing overlooking the crater floor. Food was great…really good at dinner. Above all, the staff was great. As with the other lodges in the area, the staff requests that you do not venture out at night without staff accompanying you. You have to remember that you’re in the wild and the animals do frequent the grounds. I have to circle back on the staff comment. These guys were truly attentive to the needs of the guests. Very friendly team. English is not their first language, but they really try to talk and understand you and where you come from…at least, they did so with me. My tour company offered 3 options in this area and had them rated as standard. From speaking with others, these guys are underrated. I’d stay there again.

We did a family trip to Tanzania with Exclusive Safari and Karibu Lions Paw was one of the best recommendations we got from our guides (Zebi and Shabih - the drivers; and Abdul and Gabriel- the guides). They always made their best to provide us an exclusive experience in Tanzania, keeping a close eye to every single detail, showing us the great wildlife and taking us to the most amazing spots within Serengeti and Ngorongoro. For sure Karibu Lions Paw was an excellent option for our visit to Ngorongoro. The lodges were in a perfect state and condition, totally integrated within the nature and the staff working there were very kind and nice to us. All our needs were more than covered. I would highly recommend Exclusive Safari if you are planning a safari in Tanzania and Karibu Lions Paw for your stay in Ngorongoro.

This place is a luxury lodge with a gorgeous view of the inside of Ngorongoro Crater (actually, a bit inside of the crater on the room). Beautifully appointed rooms, beautiful grounds, and great food. The rooms are big, as are the bathrooms. Very modern and comfy. I wish that we had arrived there an hour earlier so I could have had some time just sitting on their great patio with a drink in my hand. Our room had a huge patio to sit out on, facing the crater. I think all of the rooms do. It gets cools that high up on the crater rim, so there is a heater in the room, along with hot water bottles that they place in your bed. COZY!! The rooms are in their own buildings--stand-alone. It ight be a bit worrisome walking a distance to the rooms if you are not in good shape physically. Maybe a bit uneven terrain although it is a dirt path, and you have to walk a bit to get there from the main lobby. At night, you are escorted to the rooms because of wildlife around there. The main lobby/check-in area has a bar and it opens up to a wonderful patio. Also attached to that patio is an indoor dining room. They had a buffet with the large variety of foods. Breakfast also great. Our safari company, Zohar African Safaris, had spilled the beans about my anniversary. So the chef had made a wonderful cake for our group. So nice! Would stay there in a second again! Right there in the Ngorongoro Crater and handy for driving to Serengeti Park. The road up to the hotel is a trip in itself!!

jreynolds2014 Thank you for sharing in detail your experience with us, we appreciate your lovely feedback! This review has definitely made our day. As a team, we are overjoyed to hear that we were able to contribute to making your trip memorable and we hope that feeling lasts with you for years and years. The rooms are distanced and have yes they do have a rough terrain but we believe this is also an experience in itself to stay in the wild. The guests are always escorted to and from the rooms to the main lobby. For guests who are worried and find it difficult to walk can always be escorted by a car to the room. We are glad to have had the opportunity to host you and look forward to welcoming you back to Ngorongoro Lions Paw or to any of our other properties in the not too distant future. Karibu Tena The Ngorongoro Lions Paw Team
