Rates from USD 1,115 per person per night. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has been called the game lodge at the top of the world. Between the natural riches of the Crater spread out at its feet and the incredible architecture, it’s easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephant wander the forests, male lion stalk the grasslands and flamingo crowd the soda lakes. Nowhere else on earth can you wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque châteaux that transports you into one of the most famous African landscapes. An eclectic blend of teak panelling, Victorian furnishings and whimsical African touches creates a sumptuous atmosphere that is as elegant and unique as the Crater itself. In this place of dramatic contrasts, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture. Divided into three camps, 30 suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive experience. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers who provide warm, personal service. With ever-changing views as mists swirl over the huge wildlife cauldron below, the location is truly breathtaking. Guests can be forgiven for losing track of which era, or even continent, they are experiencing at this lodge. Everything is chosen to delight the imagination and enhance the spectacular views of the magnificent surroundings.

This camp was the last lodge before we ended our holidays. It was a great end to the trip because it was the most luxurious of all our camps. The placement of the lodge itself was magnificent. I would highly recommend this lodge. It is pure eye candy! The decor was a dream and takes you to another time. We had excellent service and a personal experience. Our guide, Kitoi, had worked at other reserves and lodged for andBeyond and had exceptional knowledge to share! My husband had arranged a private rose petal dinner in our room for our honeymoon finally. Our Butler, Safari, was incredible and personable. He arranged the whole dinner. I was blown away by how beautiful the flowers were displayed and how they set up our room.

Simply put, one of the best destinations we have ever visited. First the location, what a unique place to have a 5 star lodge overlooking a crater full of a variety of animals seen on safari. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets await with beautiful views of the valley below. Now the staff and room, wow to both. Service is friendly and impeccable, you even get a hand washing ceremony every time you return from a drive. You also have dedicated staff on either the north or south side of the camp to create a closer bond and so they know your preferences. Regarding the room and lodge, I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking but the level of detail and features is perfect from the wood trim to heated blankets and USB ports for charging. Just a uniquely incredible experience.

What a special place. We stayed in the Tree House Camp and the accommodations sitting on top of the crater , looking out over the crater floor below, was a different experience. Your room was luxurious but you truly felt like you were in a tree house. Alex, our game ranger, picked us up from the air strip and was a great host for our two night stay. Our trip down into the grater for a game drive was an experience that was totally different from other safaris we had experienced on the trip. The food was fantastic and Simon , our server, was very gracious and knew exactly how to meet our every need. One of the couples traveling with us was celebrating their 51 st anniversary and the staff went above and beyond to make it special for them by having a local choir come in to sing and dance for us while sitting at the table surrounded by rose petals. Truly a night we will not forget. The staff was very nice and truly focused on customer satisfaction. Thanks for a great unique experience.

Our family of 5 has traveled extensively around the world and we have never experienced a hotel/resort like the Crater Lodge. The decor is spectacular, definitely made you feel like kings and queens on safari. I do agree with another reviewer that they could have done something more with the temperature in the rooms as it is VERY cold on the crater rim in the winter months of June-August. There is a wood-burning stove but they could have some portable heaters to make it a little more comfortable as we didn't think the stove was enough. That was the only thing that detracted from the entire experience. However, the beds are heated with an electric blanket and that was divine; problem was you didn't want to get out of bed. The cold doesn't deserve to take away the 5-stars of this property; if anything the staff/guides more than make up for the temperature of the rooms. Especially Upendo who took care of us during our entire stay and Zakia our amazing guide down in the crater. We wished we could take these 2 women back to the U.S. with us, or at least for us to stay longer to be with them. Zakia took us to the Maasai village the first afternoon and our 3 girls immediately took to one of the Maasai girls. What a wonderful experience. Highly recommend to take this afternoon tour if your schedule allows. andBeyond is doing something right with their staff as that's their gem. You could be at the most amazing property in the world but if the staff are below average, the greatness of the property is diminished. We will continue to support this company as we have been so impressed, first with their people and then secondly their property. Thank you for an experience that blew us away. xoxo The Trans

What an amazing place. This is the fourth &Beyond property that we have stayed at. Each one is totally different but was is consistent is the customer service and attention to detail. We were met at the airstrip by Zakira who had a beverage table set up for us after a long day of travel. Once we got to the Lodge, which was about 90 minutes from the airstrip, we were met by Dan, Daniel, Richard (our butler) and Henry (our guide). We were taken to our room, which was unbelievable. Because we were so tired, Richard arranged for us to have dinner in our room. The game drives are in the morning. It can be chilly but there are blankets in the Land Cruisers. Be prepared for a surprise when you get back to your room. The wildlife viewing is TOTALLY different than in the Serengeti, Botswana or South Africa. We did not see as much. We went there for the Crater experience. In the afternoon we had the opportunity to do the Rim Walk with our guide, Henry, and a park ranger, Johanna. It was awesome. Food is EXCEPTIONAL. Richard is the absolute best at his job as is Henry. Make sure you ask for them if you go. It was chilly there. We kept the fire going most of the nights. They even have a “gym box” in the room if you need something to do - which we didn’t!
