#17 of 39 Speciality lodging in Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Travellers' Choice
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees.

The rooms are very spacious and heated. Each room has a balcony overlooking Ngorongoro Crater, and the scenery is spectacular. Here, the driver/guide who accompanies you on safari benefits from a separate area from the tourists. The staff is great and the food is good. By the way, here I had for dinner the best beef steak so far.

This is a spectacular location on the lip of the volcano caldera. It is a hotel with all the amenities one would expect from a nice property. The location affords easy guided access into the bowl of the volcano where there are lots of animals - lions, elephants, hippos etc. It is a very different ecology compared to what we had seen in other parts of the Serengeti. Very lush jungles grow up and down the rim of the caldera and it is quite different from the savanna’s we had seen earlier. The view from our room was of the entire caldera and it was impressive. In the morning the clouds hang low or slip down the slope of the rim, just beautiful. The staff are competent and efficient. The dining staff are extra special and provided a delightful meal with great service and humor. The morning we were to depart, they arranged for us to have a bush breakfast, which was amazing. They set up a full kitchen with hot food of every variety you can think of for breakfast. A separate table was set for us all, and it looked fit for a king. We had champagne and juice while looking at the surrounding scene while Vervet monkeys and a variety of birds watched us. The staff, once again, outdid themselves. The entire experience was spectacular.

As always the staff was super attentive and met our every need. Views of the crater from every vantage point. We can't say enough good things about every aspect of our stays with Serena Lodges. The hot water bottles tucked in the sheets at night were a special treat!

Wonderful. We booked a suite. Huge bathroom. Shower and tub. It is cold at night so they provide whatever is necessary to keep you warm. The staff and the service are good. This is a large facility but if you want to be close to the entrance of the crater and not pay a fortune, this is THE place. If you stay outside the crater, it takes at least 90 minutes to get to the gate. Very quiet and peaceful.

This lodge is amazing. The rooms are large and comfortable. The view of the crater is wonderful. The lodge construction (of rocks) is amazing. The way it blends into the landscape is a sight to see. And its location to the crater made our Lion World Tour have easy access to the crater floor (which is an incredible experience in itself)! The rooms (and bathroom) are spacious and I cannot say enough about the attention to detail that this lodge takes in decorating, not only the rooms, but the entire place. Loved everything about it! The food, the service, and everything about this place makes me want to return and spend more time. On the last day I had a massage with Jessica and that was one of my best decisions ever! Relaxing on a heated bed with Jessica doing her magic, I was (almost) ready to return to the United States. Every night there was a pleasant surprise in my bed: a heated water bottle. This place is in the mountains and it gets very chilly at night. At least it was that way in August when we were there. The hot water bottle was a lovely touch. Last, the lodge brings in entertainment and both groups were fun to watch. I cannot say enough about this lodge. The wifi was pretty fast and we had elephants visiting the lodge in the evening. I would come back in a heartbeat. Thank you Lion World for selecting such an amazing place for our last two nights of our incredible safari.
