Crossing the Rift Valley and climbing the steppe onto the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, there lies a truly undeniable surprise and one that will be a home-away-from-home. The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the north west Tanzania and with its 9 luxurious cottages (18 Suites), family cottage, and magnificent main Manor House, is one of the first safari lodges of its kind to blend East African hospitality with old-world Afro-European architecture and decor. Located adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro conservation area and within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture.

The Manor is situated a little bit hidden away from the main road between Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, nestled along the gigantic Ngorongoro Highlands. We absolutely loved every second of our stay here! The warm and very exclusive welcoming with a juice and fresh towels made us already feel home here. After we checked into our huge cottage room we didn't want to leave this place anymore. From our windows we had a great view over the big coffee estate. We took part in several activities offered by the lodge and we can recommend each and every single one of it. That is also why we highly recommend to stay here for at least 2 nights because it is quite an amount of money you have to invest to stay here, so you want to enjoy everything as much as possible. The staff and the management were amazing aswell, we had great moments at the bar and on the terrace with Stuart. Food for breakfast lunch and dinner were the among the finest we have had in Tanzania! We will definitely be back again! For questions feel free to contact us!

Initially, we felt a little unsure about staying at the Manor because our stay felt in the middle of safari parks and we were worried it may take us away from the natural feel. But we were wrong.

The Manor is a stunning estate sitting on a hill in the Ngorongoro heights. Driving up to the Manor is a treat itself as you drive through the thick rusty red dust up the hill, between endless coffee plantations.

Arrived at the Manor, we were greeted in "Elewana fashion": all smiles, a refreshing cold towel to clean off some dust and a delicious cold drink.

Thr rooms at the Manor are huge and are split in two levels by 3 steps. Each room offers an indoor fireplace as well as an outdoor fire place, a bathtub, a huge showe, a super comfortable bed, and a nice terrasse with view on the coffee plantations.

The highlight of the Manor though is their garden. It's breathtaking, so green, so lush and immaculately maintained.

If you are feeling a little sore from the "safari massage", please treat yourself with a massage. Thr ladies at the spa did a fabulous job in losing each stiffness we've may had in our back/neck.

Dinner and breakfast were exceptional at the Manor. Dinner was (if I remember well) a 5 course dinner and breakfast was à la carte.

What we've cherished most at the Manor though was the staff. They have been just wonderful. So warm, welcoming and positive hearted. Margaret took the time to chitchat with us and we very much enjoyed our conversations with good laughs. Margaret, if you read this: please say "hi" to Justin :-)

When stopping at the Manor while doing a safari, don't worry about it being "too different". Yes, the Manor is no safari lodge, and yet you'll thoroughly enjoy your time there and feel pampared from the first to the last second of your stay.

After a long bumpy drive, we arrived at the most stunning location. Welcome by amazing staff who could not do enough for us from beginning to end of our stay. This is truly a classy luxurious place to wind down and relax after a day of Safari. Stuart the manager is always on hand for a chat and our Butler, Shariff, ensured we had everything we needed to make our stay truly memorable. Our driver guide, Peter, was extremely warm, knowledgeable and calm in challenging driving conditions. The food is extremely good and the variety of different cocktails offered using the manor garden herbs etc is a good touch. It’s safe say, whilst our main aim was to go on game drives we also wanted to spend quality time here.

Dear Penny, Asante sana for taking the time to review us at the Manor at Ngorongoro. We are so delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us, especially that you enjoyed the “farm to fork” element we are so proud of in both our food and newly in our bar too! This year we are putting our focus on using more and more local ingredients from our grounds and the surrounding farm. We are pleased that you managed to have a great game drive experience, despite the challenging weather conditions and will be sure to pass on your kind words to both Shariff and Peter who will be thrilled to know that they made such a positive impact on your stay. We hope you will be back to visit us again; hopefully when we have slightly less rain! Kind Regards, Sarah, Stu, Justin and Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro Family

This is am amazing property with a small number of villas set on a large coffee plantation. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the service is fantastic. There is a lovely lounge where you can enjoy the company of the other guests who are usually there at 6pm for happy hour. They have a movie room and a billiard room with possible the world's largest billiard table. The food was amazing. The general manager who hails from South Africa was always there to greet us and make sure everything was perfect. There are a few closer hotels to the crater, but this is by far the best property to stay at.

Due to reconstruction works performed at the hotel that we had actually booked, we were fortunate enough to be booked to The Manor instead. This turned out to be the best thing that happened to us on our honeymoon. Already the arrival and welcoming at this hotel were unique. The whole property is incredibly beautiful and clean. We were also amazed by the paradise garden with the jakaranda trees and home-grown vegetables, horse stables and the surrounding coffee plantation. Every single meal was perfect (special mentions: red snapper and Swahili dinner). During dinner staff will light the fire in your room upon request and place a hot-water bottle in the bed.
The most memorable moments for us were the surprises that were prepared for us. Hotel management noticed that we were on honeymoon. While we were away on our safari, a real treat was prepared for us: We came back to a beautifully decorated room with food platters and a hot-water tub with foam and flower petals. Upon arrival at dinner later that night, we were again surprised. Our dinner was served in a chambre séparée where a table had been decorated with flowers and coffee beans. The wonderful waiter Joel who had already taken care of us the previous meals was there to make this evening really special. Thank you so much Joel for all your efforts and your smile every day!
A huge thank you to Leche and Altus! You and your team are doing such a great job. We hope to return to paradise some day.

We booked this location entirely upon recommendation of the S African tourist group, African Safari Group. It is truly a very special place, very special staff, location, venue, food, everything is great, except the drive up from "town," which was great except the "white knuckle" drive up the hill to this fantastic venue, part of a coffee plantation. Our diver/guide, Solomon is a true expert at getting us up the muddy roads. As NY City people, it takes a great deal to impressus, we were!

Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review about The Manor and our lovely warm staff. We are very fortunate with the location, as it allows us to grow our own organic vegetables and herbs that contribute to the quality of our food. Unfortunately, the unusual rain makes the road, which is interesting at the best of times, a little more challenging. We are working with Shangrila (our surrounding coffee estate) to come up with a long term plan on getting the road more user-friendly. Fortunately, with guides like Solomon, the trip up from town is made possible. We look forward to welcoming you back. Warmest regards Stuart, Sarah, and The Manor Ngorongoro Family

We spent 2 nights here as part of a Sky Safari tour. The property is amazing, a series of cottages set amidst beautiful gardens. Each suite is beautifully decorated, well-furnished and spacious. There is a large bathroom with separate toilet and shower and double vanity unit.

Sharif was an excellent butler, ensuring that the fire in our suite was lit each evening after turndown & hot water bottles provided in our beds. He also arranged a very special breakfast experience for us in front of a log fire on our final morning.

The Manager, Altus & his wife are always around to chat to and check that everything is meeting and exceeding your expectations. Standards here are high, the food is Dutch-French cuisine, delicious and well-presented. Much of the produce came from their own garden.

Peter, our safari guide was wonderful, always smiling and again keen to ensure we had the best experience possible.

Overall, a property with the wow factor, not to be missed!

The Manor was a base for our travel to Ngorongoro National Park during a one day outing to see the variety of animals. The Manor was a really elegant located where all of the humans were behind the fencing with the wild animals outside. The rooms were very comfortable and private, the food excellent, service superb. The next day we had a tour of Lake Manyara National Park before going to the airport for our next flight.

After a long drive on a dirt road we (a group of 15 friends) arrived at the stunning property on the grounds of a coffee plantation. It reminded me
Of hotels I stayed at in South Africa and Australia, just more luxurious. The rooms are very elegant and spacious, one evening there was even a hot bubble bath with rosemary drawn on our return from cocktails! The gardens and pool area beautiful, the food served by our wonderful butlers superb, the massages excellent! We all agreed that the Manor is
one of the most beautiful hotels we ever stayed at. (We have been travelling together all over the world once a year since 2001!) Altus and Leche are perfect hosts, the staff amazing. Thank you all for making
Our stay unforgettable.

We arrived from the private plane to The Manor and once again were welcomed with cool towels and a welcome drink. We were given brief instructions about our stay and our personal butlers took us to our rooms. This location is the most like a resort with horseback riding, massages and beautifully appointed rooms. Our butler, Sigi, was wonderful. He saw to our every need and when my husband became ill and was unable to visit the caldera with us, he checked in on him, brought him medication and eventually some broth. He was so caring. Peter, our driver and guide was amazingly knowledgeable and even took the time to find some of the Big 5 and educating us about the other animals in the region. The food was wonderful and the setting of the dining room was elegant. The bar was stocked and there was a room with a piano where we all sang songs and the staff joined in. It was a wonderful time.
