About

#3 of 39 Speciality lodging in Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Travellers' Choice
Crossing the Rift Valley and climbing the steppe onto the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, there lies a truly undeniable surprise and one that will be a home-away-from-home. The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the north west Tanzania and with its 9 luxurious cottages (18 Suites), family cottage, and magnificent main Manor House, is one of the first safari lodges of its kind to blend East African hospitality with old-world Afro-European architecture and decor. Located adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro conservation area and within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture.

Wow - we were truly impressed with this lodge. The manor is very comfortable with beautiful landscaping, the food is delicious, and the service is exceptional. The staff are truly thoughtful and it felt like they went above and beyond for us. This location is close to Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro. We stayed here during a 15 day Safari arranged by Elewana that was really special - we visited 5 of their properties in Tanzania. Each property really has its own personality. Our Elewana guide for 9 days, Peter, was fantastic, and John and Rogers at The Manor really went out of their way for us.

Wow...5-star wow! The Manor was sensational in all respects...beautiful, stunning resort (with an old-school colonial feel) the kindest, friendliest, English speaking, professional, helpful staff ever! We (a family of five, with three teenage kids) visited The Manor for two nights in August 2021, at the middle of our 10-day safari in Tanzania, while visiting Ngorongoro. Our experience was truly amazing in every way: outstanding service, professionalism and kindness of all staff, great food quality (all inclusive), the "room" is actually a private house/villa and was gorgeous, with an incredible outdoor deck, spacious living, fireplaces and all around gorgeous. Everything about the property was top-notch, 5-stars. We loved using the stable there and riding horses around the coffee plantation, as well as playing billiards and croquet while sipping cocktails...great fun! 5-star awesomeness all around...The Manor is outstanding...worth a visit! We will eagerly return!

My husband, two teenage sons and I enjoyed everything about The Manor at Ngorongoro. The people that work there are especially nice, the room was very comfortable. We felt like we had our own house because it had a living room and a generous deck. The food was amazing and finally, we each had a fantastic massage. It's a great place for relaxation and quiet.

From the moment we arrived until the last moment, we were treated to personal service, beautiful elegant surroundings, and gourmet food. The cottages have fireplaces, claw foot tubs, leather furniture and porches overlooking the grounds. Each day was a special day. One day they filled the tub with bubbles and flower pedals for a bath; another day they brought an afternoon snack. Whether eating in the dining room or having a “boxed lunch” the food was fresh, uniquely prepared and plentiful. Our guide, Emmanuel, was particularly sensitive and adaptable to our needs. Not only did he show us the Crater, he treated us to a visit to the local town and shopping experience.

We had the pleasure of staying at The Manor at Ngorongoro on our way from Tarangire to Ngorongoro crater and wished we arranged to spend more than one night! The rooms are classically designed/decorated completed with a working, wood burning fireplace (which they offered and lit while we were at dinner) and clawed bathtub which was prepared with hot water upon our arrival. The grounds are beautiful as the property is set atop a hill (mountain...) boarding the conservation area. Pack accordingly as it is chilly in the evenings. The beautiful acres of coffee and avocado plantation surrounding the manor are the perfect environment for a horseback ride before dinner and the stables on the ground offer just that. The ride was a nice break from the safari trucks we spent more of our time and would recommend anyone staying here take advantage of the experience. Unfortunately due to our arrival time and the chilly evening, we did not spend any time at the pool or spa but both are available. The meals were delicious and the staff were incredibly attentive our entire visit. We look forward to the chance to return on a future trip to Tanzania!
