Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp sits on the crater rim under a beautiful canopy of acacia trees. It is convenient to get to the crater floor, yet feels so remote and peaceful. What looks like a fairy basic tent on the outside is beautifully appointed and welcoming on the inside. The nights are chilly, but we were never cold. There was a small heater in our room that the staff turned on each night and morning. The comforters are really thick, and they put a heated water bottle in your bed every night that amazingly stays warm until morning! The firepit was a fabulous place to congregate with a glass of wine and chat with other travelers about the day's adventures. The food was excellent, and they did a great job accommodating my gluten and dairy sensitivities. The staff were very nice and helpful. One night the entire staff treated a couple celebrating their anniversary to a special cake, a traditional song, and a dance that snaked through the dining room. It was fabulous! We loved our time there.

I like to be fair in my reviews and describe the place to allow people to make a decision if they want to stay in a place or not. The camp is about 12 minutes from the crater and If you have kids this is a great advantage. They were amazing with kids. This is a tented camp and it was very luxurious and well appointed. As an open camp, animals roam freely. Lemala has local Masai walking the property at night and they walk you from your tent to the main lodge. Staff was the best part of Lemala always willing to accommodate every need. Lemala Ngorongoro don’t have showers on demand, you have to let them know when you want to take a shower so they can prepare the hot water. The showers are inside your tent & toilets. The pressure is great and you can take showers as long as you want. An employees of Lemala has to handle the pressure for hot water and they do stay outside the tent. Not a big deal for me or my family. Food, was amazing and the best part of this camp. They had a great array of things every night. Wines and beer were included and they had a good selection. Also the food was gourmet style with three courses. The only thing that I found not to my liking was the mattress comfort and I expressed this to management. They have plans to change them soon. They just have not done it due to the pandemic. My measure of satisfaction is if I would stay again and my answer is Yes. I had a great guide his name was Miraji and the staff was so amazing. Loved having drinks in front of the fire every night. Thanks Lemala. Luis and family.

Lemala Ngorogoro tented camp is set in the middle of a high acacia tree forest. You wake up to zebras outside your tent each morning. Their location close to the crater allowed ours to be the first vehicle to descend into the crater to see the animals in the morning. This is much more than just a tented camp - The meals are outstanding, rooms and beds are heated and there are even hot showers. The tented suites are large, comfortable and well appointed. The staff is everything here - they are warm, appreciative and bend over backwards to serve and accommodate you and we left feeling that we had made friends with them. Particularly wonderful was a walking safari (really a hike) up the hill above the camp with a local Masai, learning the flora and medicinal plants, animals and birds and his sharing the sight of his village, as well as the spectacular views of the crater and the surrounding mountains.

The place looks amaizing and the staff is really nice, really warm people. If you are looking for a place to connect with nature this is it. It’s the place where you fall asleep to the sounds of the forest. The view from the top is breathtaking. Despite the low temperature, everything is very cozy! Excellent food also! I would visit again!

This camp was our first experience with a tented camp in the bush. It exceed our wildest expectations for location, comfort, food and especially the warmth of the staff. The location under acacia trees just beyond the crater rim was atmospheric and lovely. The manager was very helpful, as were the camp staff, and there were many thoughtful touches, including hot water bottles to warm up the sheets at night and a space heater in the room - because of the elevation, it was cold at night. Meals were exceptionally good, and the “bush tv” - the campfires at sunset where the adventures of the day could be shared with fellow travelers - were a highlight. Can’t wait to return! The caldera itself and the wildlife were a must see while in Tanzania.
