We booked the Presidential suite for two nights and a vast well equipped space it was. However on a 36c day the only a/c was located in one of the bedrooms. For a mini split system I know you can add additional heads and cannot understand why this was not installed?

The quality of art, TV, beds, linen, bathroom tub, shower was very high and the place was very clean. The room was also quiet and we cooked ourselves supper in the suites kitchen on both nights. We had to ask for a fan (it was that hot!) and this was quickly delivered.

One other irritation was that a window in the second bedroom had no blind thus the sun shone in at 05.00. A quick fold of a blue pool towel and a bit of tape had it covered, but again why wasn't this rectified when the place opened?

Thankfully the 2nd night was much cooler and we all slept a lot better. Overall the Presidential suite was quiet and we felt very special.

The breakfast and restaurant area were pleasant, the choice of breakfast food OK but the cappuccino I prepared from the machine was the second WORST one I've ever drunk...so bad that I didn't drink it!

The pool is small as is the garden, but the whole area is well maintained and clean.

Throughout our stay Peter and his colleagues were charming, personal and made us feel very welcome.

We stayed here for 1 night as this was a place my boyfriend had always wanted to stay. At check in we were given a hand written welcome card and our name was on the board behind reception welcoming us to the hotel too.
We were escorted to the room by a member of staff who helped carry our bags up. The room was beautifully decorated and had a gorgeous view of the harbour, the bathroom was complete with a bath and a huge walk in shower.
The balcony was cosy and spacious.
It was a busy Wednesday evening and we dined at the Gannet restaurant and the food was incredible and the cocktails were top notch! the staff were stretched out but still delivered an amazing service.
After dinner we took a bottle of champagne to the room to enjoy on the balcony, it was really peaceful. The bed was super comfortable and we had a great nights sleep.

Loved our family weekend getaway stay at Protea Hotel Mossel Bay. Rooms were very spacious and spotless , enjoyed the beautiful view overlooking both the harbour and the beach as well as the lovely pool area. Excellent room cleaning service and overall the staff were very friendly. Our entire stay was comfortable and enjoyable.

Firstly, the reception staff were excellent. My friend had booked the wrong date but the reception staff sorted it out and we had the rooms originally booked.

The rooms were harbour suites and, whilst spacious we felt they were impractical as they are on two floors with the bedrooms downstairs. The rooms had 2 balconies, one with a table and 2 chairs and the other with just 1 sunbed for two people ?

When we went for dinner the service in the bar was very slow and the gin demonstration area closed for a private function. We ate in the Restaurant and the food was very good although again, whilst the staff were very friendly, the service was very slow. This was primarily because the private party from the gin area had moved into the restaurant.

Overall, potentially a good hotel but probably not for us

This is a nice hotel and property with an on site restaurant and gin distillery. The hotel is nicely located close to the harbour for boat trips and also a short walk from town centre shops and Bartolomeu Dias Museum. A little further away, but within walking distance, is Santos Beach, which is a lovely sandy crescent beach with good facilities.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom king suite with harbour view and balcony. The suite was on two levels with a lounge and kitchen on the upper floor and the bedroom and bathroom below. Facilities were all very nice and the kitchen was a bonus, with full fridge and microwave plus all necessary crockery and cutlery. However there was no soap or towel provision in the kitchen area.
The bedroom was of ample size with built-ins and laying space and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large and nicely laid out. However there was a bad drain smell when we visited and it appeared to be coming from the shower drain.
There was not enough soap or towels in the bathroom and there was no bath mat. Only two larger towels were provided plus one small hand towel that ended up being our bath mat. We asked for more and were given another single larger towel. No bath mat or additional hand towels. This was very strange and felt a bit cheap really. Why would you provide a nice room and suite and skimp on towels. The shower tray was textured but the main floor was polished tile throughout, so a bath mat was a necessity. This was poor.
There should also have been more soap and shampoo. Only one small bar of soap was provided and one small tube of shower gel. Again this felt like skimping on necessities. And please provide towel and soap to the kitchen area. This is on a different level to the bathroom so most inconvenient when washing hands or kitchen items.
The hotel did have a gym, but it was limited to one old cycle/cross train machine and a treadmill. It did have adequate loose weights.
There was a small pool on site and there was ample seating throughout the external areas of the property. The property was very well presented.
On the plus side, the restaurant was fabulous with a varied menu for both omnivores and vegetarians. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Ask for a gin tasting in the bar or restaurant and you will enjoy the three gin flavours distilled on site.

Stayed here for just one night whilst doing the garden route on a longer cricket tour
It is a very quaint hotel in a very sleepy town, it overlooks the harbour and beach.
Looks like it has been recently refurbished as everything was clean and fresh and very modern.
Staff eager to please and polite.
Ate in restaurant, reasonably priced, good service and delicious food, despite the restaurant being pretty full ( it is probably best restaurant in this sleepy area).
Room modern and clean, WiFi good.
Nice cocktail bar overlooking the harbour.
Would stay here again

The hotel is nicely located with restaurants and shop in its vicinity and has great bay and harbour views. Rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed on 2 floors with balconies and large bathrooms. There is a small pantry in the entry hall. Public areas are tastefully furnished and decorated. All staff is super friendly and helpful. The in- and outdoor bar by the small pool is great and very popular. The poolarea has great views of the bay. The onsite restaurant is great for fish and packed with locals and guests alike. Breakfast is very good. Protea Mossel Bay is a very good option to stay on your way along the Garden Route-

My husband and I had the pleasure to stay at the Marriot Protea hotel in Mosselbay for nine nights. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and check in was hassle-free. Strict Covid protocols were followed which we appreciated.

The hotel and reception area boasted an intimate and sophisticated décor and ambience. Our room (deluxe double nr 332) was situated in the annex building on the ground floor. The room was beautifully decorated, spacious and sparkling clean. The king size bed was very comfortable and provided a good night's rest. It also boasted a furnished courtyard where we spent precious time with our son.

The room had a mini bar fridge which came in handy. High quality Earththerapy Africa toiletries were provided and replenished daily.

The hotel was perfectly situated to explore restaurants in the area and the Diaz museum complex next door.

We enjoyed numerous meals at Café Gannet Restaurant and the Blue Oyster Cocktail Bar which was exquisite (see my separate reviews for both).

All the staff members treated us like royalty with true and heartfelt hospitality.

George airport is approximately a 30 minutes’ drive from the hotel (depending on traffic to get to the N2 highway).

In conclusion we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Protea hotel in Mosselbay and we shall definitely stay there on our next visit to Mosselbay.

The staff was simply put, great. Very friendly and strait to the point. The rooms are modern, well lit and roomy. The presidential suite is on two levels but there are balconies on both levels.

The garden and hotel grounds are neatly kept and lounge seats are available for informal meetings or to catch up with event of the day with friends.

The bathroom is very roomy and spotless. This really makes for a pleasant stay.

Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Protea Marriott hotel.

It is well situated, has a harbour and sea view and is close to the restaurants and beaches. The rooms are a good size, nicely decorated and comfortable. Ours had a balcony on which we enjoyed early morning tea and coffee. There is parking in front of the hotel and a guard on duty. For a small fee one can park on the premises which is safe and secure.

Included in the price was a gin tasting. Excellent gin is made and beautifully bottled on the premises. Well worth a taste.

There is a lovely restaurant that serves good food and where the appetizing buffet breakfasts are served. All the dishes are freshly prepared and their coffee is of a high quality.

Staff are all friendly and helpful and are willing to assist with all requests. Good value for money and one I can truly recommend.
