Eight Bells Mountain Inn is a proudly South African-owned and family-run resort hotel set in a picturesque mountain landscape at the foot of the Robinson Pass in the Outeniqua Mountains outside of Mossel Bay. We are a full-service four-star hotel set on a beautiful 160-hectare estate with an on-site restaurant as well as a variety of amenities and outdoor recreation facilities. We have 25 rooms – ranging from standard en-suite rooms and family units to log cabin-style chalets and thatched rondavels. Our beautiful gardens and mountain views make for an idyllic locale for weddings, special occasions, or retreats! Eight Bells was established more than 90 years ago, so we have strong ties to our history and traditions. Today, our aim is to blend our traditions and old-world charm with modern comforts and four-star amenities and service. Eight Bells exudes nostalgia and comfort, a “home away from home” for many, and offers a serene place to relax and reset.

Very friendly and warm welcome at reception. Owner told us everything about the history of the place. Very interesting! Rooms are very basic but very clean and although it was very cold there was warmth in the room with additional blankets. Huge lounge with fireplace. Supper was also very nice.
Breakfast delicious!

Thank you so much for a much needed relaxing three days. It was wonderful to come back and experience the same magical charm that captured us the first time we stayed. Our room in Palm Court was spacious and comfortable with a lovely modern on suite bathroom. All we wanted was peace and rest. That is exactly what we got. Coming from the city it was so nice sitting on a bench and admiring the beautiful views while listening to the horses feeding in their paddocks. Every morning and afternoon we were charmed by the sound of a bell drifting over the freshly mowed lawns calling everyone for tea and scones on the patio.... exactly the way we remembered it many years ago. The well marked hiking trails were most refreshing after a lovely breakfast spread. We did not have the energy for a game of tennis or squash but we did manage a most enjoyable afternoon playing lawn bowls followed by an afternoon nap. (Fresh air is exhausting). Our three days went by far too quickly. Looking forward to our next visit.. Fond Regards Rick and Wendy Coetzee

The five of us all had a lovely meal here and our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. Three opted for the baked potato with a creamy mushroom and bacon topping accompanied by a salad which they all enjoyed. Another had the massive burger and chips and I chose the Ploughman's Platter which was huge. The items were beautifully arranged on the plate and I especially liked the ostrich pate.
A couple of things which I think would improve this serving would be crusty bread such as baguette or ciabatta and some biscuits to accompany the cheese. The little pots of jam were a bit of an odd accompaniment for a Ploughman's 🤔
The setting of this Inn is so beautiful. Well worth a return visit.

A little gem! This hotel is like no other, an oasis nestled in the hills. There are so many activities you can do here, we played tennis but there are options of squash, horse riding and lots of hikes! Coffee is served in the afternoon when the bell rings! The staff were so friendly and gave us lots of information about the activities. The complex has various accommodation types, catering for families and couples of all ages - there is something for everyone, particularly if you're a nature and bird enthusiast!
In such a peaceful and remote location (but actually not that far from Mossel Bay) this is a relaxing spot which would suit anyone!

We celebrated my husband’s 60th with our larger family at 8 Bells. Billy and his staff made this an unforgettable event catering sublimely for all our diverse personal and dietary needs. Spacious and luxurious rooms, a lot of fun activities and a menu serving everybody’s favourite dishes, made this a perfect venue. Thank you! We’ll definitely return for a longer stay soon.

Lovely place for families, so many activities to keep the kids busy. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Rooms were clean, the only thing i would suggest is to maybe have a small bar fridge in the rooms to keep some items cold like milk especially if you have small kids and medication that needs to be kept in the fridge. We would definitely go back

Staff excellent. Lovely location. Good food. Room 16 - hot water took long to get to this room which led to massive waste of water, shower leaked, close to the road with a lot of noise during the night and the room generally needs proper maintenance. No Wi-Fi access in this room. We realise that we were a large group but still feel that meals took a long to get to the tables. Our mealtime simply to short, bbut this was due to our program.

Stayed for 2 nights in the Swiss Village and was very impressed. The views and scenery are fabulous and the grounds are kept immaculate.

The staff were all very friendly and the evening meals in the restaurant were excellent - some of the best ostrich I've eaten.

We didn't get the opportunity to do the walking trails around the property as the weather wasn't favourable our second day but the property provides trail maps with walks of differing distances and toughness.

Highly recommended stay.

Lovely venue for a relaxing break away.
Staff extremely efficient, friendly and helpful.
Rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. The underfloor heating is an added bonus on a cold winters night. They are also well situated so one gets beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The dining area is also spotless with crisp white linen and silver cutlery and individual small vases of flowers on each table. Meals are excellent and very well presented. The hotel, rooms and gardens are very well maintained. Truly a lovely place for a peaceful getaway.

I needed a retreat; a tranquil place to go, one year after the passing of my husband of 49 years. At 8 Bells I found it. I was able to relax in the quiet atmosphere, and I went on one of the 5 or 6 marked walks on the property, following a map. It was peaceful and calming. There were several well-mannered horses in the paddocks-one can go on horseback if walking isn't your thing!
The members of staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was well cooked and plentiful.
I enjoyed joining other guests for a glass of wine in the cosy olde worlde style bar, before supper, and sat in the large comfortable lounge, in front of an open fire, afterwards.
The trip had the desired effect for me, and I shall definitely be staying there again
