Detailed Reviews
We have just had an amazing 3 days at this safari camp .From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave you will be made to feel like old friends , when you first arrive you are met by the owners Abran and Nanette and some of the staff and are given the warmest of welcomes . The accomadation is brilliant and very clean , the food is great , there is no menu but if you ask what is for dinner that evening and its not to your liking just let them know and they will get the chef to have a chat and he will cook something that is to your taste and it will be done without Gordon Ramsay type tantrums either , it will be cooked with pleasure .Now on to the safaris , firstly you will get your own guide who will take you out in an open top 4x4 and his knowledge will be second to none , our guide Andy was full of knowledge and enthusiasm with a great sense of humour . You can take up to 3 trips a day at 6am 9am and 4pm with the latter ending at the reseves highest vantage point to watch the sunset . If that was not good enough there is ice cold drinks on board , gin and tonic , cold beer , wine or soft drinks . This reserve may not have the big 5 yet but that is soon forgotten by the warmth and hospitality that you recieve . We have only just left but have decided to return in the near future .

From arrival to departure the owners/hosts are focussed on their guest’s wants and needs. We were welcomed by two ladies, playing African drums and offering something sweet to kick off our stay.
We checked into a beautiful, tastefully decorated luxury tent with an indoor and refreshing outdoor shower, overlooking the swimming pool. Just about 80 meters away a variety of animals graced us with their presence. The game drive was one of our most informative experiences lead by a passionate, caring and careful guide who did not only focussed on animals but also on flowers, plants, insects, birds etc. indeed a fine young man!!

"Welcome to your new home away from home!" We were given such a wonderful and warm welcome by Unelle to the sound of drums as we drove up to the lodge.
The family-run camp is a pearl among the game reserves on the Western Cape. Here you can see that the Knoetze family is very committed and that it is not just about offering visitors a wonderful experience, but also about giving the animals as natural a home as possible. In addition to Nanette, her husband Abram, son Stephan and daughter-in-law Unelle, the employees also give you the feeling of being part of something special when you visit the camp. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The income is used, among other things, to purchase additional land (farms) in order to expand the reserve and offer more animals a protected home.
Our package (2 nights in a luxury tent) included two game drives, which were already something exclusive with only 4 people. The game drives with Mark were wonderful. Once again: thank you so much Mark!
The luxury tent accommodations (we had one on the hill with a fantastic view of the camp) are equipped with almost everything you could need in terms of comfort. The electric blanket in the bed is particularly useful in the South African spring. There is no bathtub in the tents, but that was completely fine considering the water and energy consumption for such a bathtub.
The food is á la carte and offers a good selection of main courses, including vegetarian. At lunch there are small cakes and other delicacies, along with coffee or tea. There is a buffet for breakfast and you can have eggs prepared according to your wishes. You can have breakfast or lunch cake on the terrace (deck) with a view of a waterhole and if you are lucky like us, a giraffe will stop by. In the evening a few of the zebras or antelopes come very close to the lodge or the pool. A great experience!
While you are eating dinner, the good spirits make up the beds and turn on the electric blankets. There are also small gifts.
Even if the reserve doesn't offer all of the "Big Five", it is worth a visit just because of its family atmosphere.
Thank you for the great time!

Our group of six were welcomed by the owner Abraham and staff with all the safety protocols in place. We had a briefing, were shown to our luxury tents, offloaded our luggage and sat on the verandah for a welcome GnT overlooking zebra before our game drive with Stefan, a perfect nature guide full of useful information about the surrounding nature and animals. He even found a scorpion to show us ... What a wonderful experience all round, neat, clean comfortable "rooms" with everything you could need including a hair dryer!! We will definitely be back, but for longer than one night. Thank you to Nanette for the smooth way the accounts were handled and for being such a gracious hostess. All the correspondence leading up to our stay (delayed by a month because of Covid) is sincerely appreciated.

My boyfriend and I recently visited South Africa and staying at the Garden Route Safari Camp was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip! The camp is run by the Knoetze family and you can feel their passion for the reserve and the animals as soon as you arrive. We received such a warm welcome! The level of service, hospitality and attention to detail was of such a high standard. We were greeted by Stephan and Unelle who were so friendly and you can tell they just love what they do. Stephan was our tour guide who was fantastic, he had so much knowledge and so many stories to tell. Unelle was a fantastic host, so lovely and talented and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. We stayed in the hideaway tented camp which was absolutely magical, I loved the set up and particularly the outdoor shower. During our game drives seeing the animals roaming the reserve was so special and something I won’t forget. After your safaris you can enjoy your drinks and food at the beautiful lodge where Nanette, Abram, Stephan & Unelle ask how your day has been. This was truly an incredible part of our holiday and we would recommend the Garden Route Safari Camp to anyone who’s looking for an authentic safari experience. We hope we can return again in the future! All the best, Tamsin & Willem

What an amazing time we had at Garden Route Safari Camp! The accommodation was luxurious, stylishly decorated and private, the food was beautifully prepared and delicious (thank you, chef!), the communal lounge/diningroom was a warm piece of Africa & a deck with a stunning vista. Then, the game drive this morning was spacious & exciting and Stefan was a wealth of knowledge, thank you Stefan! But, the best part of our stay was the wonderfully generous hospitality. That should get 6 stars! Thank you Yunelle, Stefan, Nanette & Abraham! We would love to return again soon!

We can only report on Garden Route Safari Camp in superlatives!
Starting with the super nice welcome and the offer to set up single beds for our adult children.
The rooms (we had a suite and a tent) are spacious, very nice and luxuriously furnished, the beds were prepared in the evening and the mattress heating on.
The restaurant is stylishly decorated and both the breakfast and dinner offer top!
We did both morning and afternoon safari and would definitely recommend both. You can see different animals, sometimes up close and without time pressure, because the vehicles can also cross-country, and do so.
We were most impressed by the personal and family interaction as well as the friendliness and high motivation (our safari guide Ion was unbeatable) of the entire staff.

+1
We stayed for 2 days at the Garden Route Safari Camp with our family in one of the 3 tents in the middle of the game reserve … what a great experience! After a very warm welcome by the family (you really feel at home), we checked in and enjoyed a mini safari on the way to our tent, since it is a 10min drive from the main lodge, spotting all kinds of animals along the way. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are served at the main lodge, so you can enjoy a drive with a guide or the family to get there on time, experiencing the game reserve in all of its beauty every time. We booked a package including 2 activities, and decided to go on the early bird safari and the evening safari, a must do! Ask for Joshua or Thomas as a guide, they know everything there is to know about the park and its animals, but I am sure the other guides will be of the same quality. Thanks to the family, especially to Unelle and her husband, for welcoming us from day one as part of their family. I strongly recommend this game reserve and the overall experience, including great food and fine wines.
