My boyfriend and I recently visited South Africa and staying at the Garden Route Safari Camp was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip! The camp is run by the Knoetze family and you can feel their passion for the reserve and the animals as soon as you arrive. We received such a warm welcome! The level of service, hospitality and attention to detail was of such a high standard. We were greeted by Stephan and Unelle who were so friendly and you can tell they just love what they do. Stephan was our tour guide who was fantastic, he had so much knowledge and so many stories to tell. Unelle was a fantastic host, so lovely and talented and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. We stayed in the hideaway tented camp which was absolutely magical, I loved the set up and particularly the outdoor shower. During our game drives seeing the animals roaming the reserve was so special and something I won’t forget. After your safaris you can enjoy your drinks and food at the beautiful lodge where Nanette, Abram, Stephan & Unelle ask how your day has been. This was truly an incredible part of our holiday and we would recommend the Garden Route Safari Camp to anyone who’s looking for an authentic safari experience. We had an amazing time at the Garden Route Safari Camp. The staff was extremely passionate about what they do and our guide was happy to tell us all about the animals and share his excitement about them with us. They were also extremely attentive and flexible. After mentioning that I had caught food poisoning at a previous location, the staff sent up medicine without even being asked and were happy to adapt the meals to accommodate my illness. The location was also extremely beautiful and we enjoyed watching weaver birds build their nests during breakfast or listening to the lions roar at sunset.

We cannot recommend this place enough. We had a wonderful experience at the camp with Abram, the owner, and his family. We spent three nights here and would recommend this place to couples, families, singles, anyone. Their hospitality and attention to detail were second to none. The food was delicious and local, the staff were very attentive, the guides were so personable and knowledgeable, and the individual units were clean and well appointed. We took an evening safari drive, a morning safari drive, and a safari walk. All were fantastic. The safari drives included picnic stops with cocktails (evening) or coffee/tea (morning). Our guide Jared was really amazing - we loved him. We saw so many animals on the tours (lions, giraffes, impala, zebra, eland, Nyala, tortoise, bontebok, springbok, and more). We felt like family here and did not want to leave when our stay was over ☺️…

Extremely authentic, beautiful Lions. The absolute maximum was the horseriding safari. We felt extremely close to the animals. Family-run business. Everyone works in the same direction, and is pro-active.

We had a wonderful stay. The accommodation was beautiful and very very comfortable. Staff we so friendly and really accommodating, our every need was anticipated. Mark took us on a couple of fabulous game drives, he was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the animals and the place.

What a truly magical experience. It is rarely I write a review and say “ you have to go !” but this is certainly the case with The Garden Route Safari Lodge. On arrival we were greeted by Stephan who together with his lovely wife and parents own this amazing place. Immediately we were felt completely at home as they took our suitcases ( loads as we are travelling for about three weeks !) and showed us our stunning accommodation. They were recovering from some torrential rain which had caused huge amounts of flooding and several routes on the safari were impassable as a result. The tent was beautiful and thanks to the huge bed with the addition of an electric blanket we had the best sleep ever. We did the evening safari and the early morning and saw some incredible animals and so close! Stephan’s passion shone through and we were transfixed by all the information he was able to give us. The family are all so passionate about what they are doing and their love and care for the animals is a credit to them. I will not talk about all the animals as you have to experience this yourself but our hundreds of pictures shows just how close we were. Lots of lovely personal touches throughout and the evening gin an tonic sundowners watching the amazing sunset went down a treat. We met up with lots of people during our trip who had also been on safari but their stories were nothing like ours. As I said earlier “ you really have to go !”…

I looked for a horseback safari for experienced riders only and found the best one here. Both guides had great knowledge and I have never been so close to Giraffes, Zebras, Gnus etc. You feel that everyone is trying his best to create great memories and improve the reserve to make it even more lovely. My boyfriend, who waited for me, was treated very kind as well. Both of us felt welcomed all the time and would like to come back some day
