What an amazing place to stay on your way between Johannesburg and Cape. Graaf Reinet is already a very charming place and we really enjoyed the spirit of Drostdy that fit perfectly with the rest of the city. Room are clean and spacious, breakfast was very good and we had a beautiful dinner at the restaurant the first night. Wifi network is weak and unstable, clearly something that will need a serious focus.
Drostdy Hotel in the heart of the Karoo is a perfect place to stay. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. We usually stay here when we travel to the Western Cape. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Rooms are well equipped. Pools and gardens are beautiful!
We stayed at the lovely Drostdy Hotel on a 2 night special. We had a very comfortable room, spacious, excellent bed, smart TV, good coffee in the room etc. The Valentine night dinner special was excellent and our waiter Bongani was tops. The bar service was friendly and efficient. On the second day the hotel made up a generous breakfast pack for us which was great and much appreciated. Breakfast on the first morning was a bit subdued and a little disappointing - we were not advised that one of the menu items was not available until we ordered it and we were never offered another cup of coffee. Staff could have been friendlier, could have offered orange juice but unfortunately they stood mostly observing us. The Spa treatment was excellent and the Spa staff very professional and friendly. Our suggestions for improvements: greater management visibility, more training/monitoring of serving staff, plan for Spa demand during special offers - we repeatedly tried to contact the spa over 2 days to add a treatment but could not reach anyone. On checking in, Reception offered to contact someone regarding a walking tour which we never had any feedback on, there were a few maintenance issues in our room. Overall we loved Graaff Reinet and the Drostdy and hope that you will iron out the few issues. We would love to come back.…
I had great expectations of the hotel as it was recommended by friends although their stays were years ago. I had to complete 3 forms on arrival; 2 for Covid and 1 to accept the hotel terms. My room was in Strech's Court. It wasn't big but was clean and the bed comfortable. The armchair in the room was not comfortable being very low. There are very limited DSTV channels and the wifi was good. The pool was green and not at all inviting. I looked at the restaurant menu as I had intended to have dinner at the hotel but found the choice limited and the prices very high. The lamb chops were R100 more than I paid in another restaurant the night before where the food was very good. So I ate dinner elsewhere. Breakfast was ok but not special. It would be better if the pathway to the car park was not gravel as one cannot wheel a suitcase. Overall I was very disappointed.…
We stopped at this quaint establishment just as a stop over between Durban and Cape Town. After 11 hours of driving we were very happy to arrive to beautiful rooms, crisp linen and incredible cleanliness. We had a major problem with our bath and shower and had to share with our kids in the adjoining room. I had a mini melt down and the hotel went to the ends of the earth to make us happy. It’s not the situation but how you respond to it for which I really appreciate. Food and service great. Fantastic Covid protocol in place.
