What an great over night stay! The cottage made us felt like our own home - the pillows are the fluffiest we ever slept on. The breakfast was a lovely fresh spread prepared with lots of love. Safe parking, great bedding and YIPPEE solar panels!!! Our hostess was so warm friendly and made our stay very special. We will definitely be back in future. Spoil yourself and book with Cypress Cottage.

One of the friendliest, courteous and helpful staff I've ever had the pleasure of staying with, in South Africa and elsewhere. Nicky helped me substantially plan my trip and tours and responded to many questions about the community as i had never been before, and the courtesy continued throughout my stay. The accommodation was incredibly comfortable, convenient, and with excellent meals and the wider estate was beautiful, accessible and frankly felt like a real home away from home. Graaff-Reinet is a lovely community, and Cypress Cottage is the best representation of it. I cannot recommend highly enough! Thanks to Nicky and the team!

Outstanding place to stay, truly charming! Lovely guest house with historic charm with breathtaking views from the surrounding gardens. The manager Nicki was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We had made a mistake with our booking and had gotten too small of a room for our family but she had proactively shifted our reservation to a family friendly cottage. The breakfast was superb, delicious and hearty. Everything was impeccably clean.
Our only regret is that we didn't stay here longer. We'd give it 10 stars if we could! This must be Graaf-Reinet's best kept secret!

Stayed one night while visiting the Valley of Desolation. Big, clean and comfortable rooms. Needed laundry to be done as soon as possible and staff made an effort to make it possible.
The cottages are in a separate house than the owner/reception which made it quite difficult to contact our host - must go outside and knock on the door of her private residence (didn't feel comfortable knocking early in the morning) - although when we went over to her place she was very helpful.

When a guest house charges premium rates you expect to get premium conditions to match. Old and quaint is fine but make sure that the beds are comfortable, that the toilet cistern does not run continually (it's surprising how noisy this is in the night), and that 'Internet available' does not mean sitting in the garden outside the owner's house.
The excuse for the last two items was that 'the men who came to fix them haven't done a very good job'. When I was in business I took personal responsibility for any failings, something sadly lacking in this case. If you don't care you shouldn't be in a service industry.

Perhaps it was bad timing but we were thoroughly disappointed with our stay. The general feel was unwelcoming and could not understand how it had received such rave reviews which was the reason we booked here.

Apart from a musty smell, one of the rooms had recently been painted and the fumes permeated throughout the cottage which gave one an instant headache as the cottage seemed to have been closed up and not aired in a while. The room itself although clean lacked any sense of character or warmth - the word that comes to mind is clinical.

Upon arrival we were also informed that the pool was currently empty which is something we should have been informed about on booking. Overall it felt like the owners were perhaps disinterested and the cottages were just a means of making money with as little effort as possible.

Would not recommend this to anyone or stay there again.

While traveling to Addo elephant park in the Eastern Cape, we made a stop in Graaff-Reinet and spend the evening at Cypress Cottages. It was amazing. A stunning, well equiped and spotlessly clean maintained cottage. Hillary and her staff really goes the extra mile to make sure every need is catered for. We had tea in her beautiful garden with an enchanting view of the mountains, where after we cooled down in their fresh water reservoir. They made us dinner reservations at a lovely restuarant and we had one great evening. Our stay altough it was short was deffinately one of the best. Thank you Cypress Cottages!

We have the feeling of being in another days... very charming and authentic place. Very high level of comfort. The cottage is fully equipped. Nice garden, very well maintained, huge space for living and to get rest. Very kind owners and helpful.

What a wonderful stay. Could not have asked for more. Superbly comfortable, spotlessly clean, safe and secure only wish we had more time to stay. Thank you Hillary and thank you to your team for a very comfortable stay. PS our girls loved it too. We will spread the word and we will be back...
