Value
This old Karoo home, circa 1856, has been created into a small boutique-type accommodation centrally situated in Graaff-Reinet, the jewel of the Karoo. Our guesthouse, named Aa’Qtansisi, is derived from the authentic original Khoisan language, meaning "We welcome You." Dating back 350,000 years ago, the Khoisan were the first human inhabitants, in Graaff-Reinet & our town - Graaff-Reinet may well be the Origin of Mankind! Be prepared to be spoiled & delighted with personal attention & unique flavours of decor in each part of this accommodation so that Aa’Qtansisi will become your first choice of accommodation when passing through Graaff-Reinet.

After a vehicle breakdown near Graaff-Reinet, and making a few calls we decided on Aa'Qtansisi Guesthouse to stay at while our vehicle was being repaired.

Ria and Piere prepared our accommodation on very short notice and on arrival ensured we felt right at home (My Wife, 2 Kids and 4 Dogs). Cold refreshments were ready and waiting.

The rooms were immaculate and refreshing and had the typical quaint historical charm of the Karoo.

The refreshments and subsequent quick dip in the pool were most needed and enjoyed (even by our dogs)

Piere and Ria went completely out of there way to ensure that we were comfortable for our entire 3 day stay. Often checking in on us , but never intruding.

What was otherwise going to be an awful time awaiting on our car to be repaired was made completely stress free by our hosts and the calming and peaceful environment of the guest house. Everything was picture perfect that we were actually sad to be told our car was ready 3 days later and we could continue on our journey up North.

A warm welcome from the host, and a tour of the lovely house and gardens. Sumptuous rooms, beautifully furnished with items collected by the owners on their travels. Loved room 5, large bathroom with a raised loo (!) and access directly outside to the secure car park.
Breakfast was wonderful, tasty and plentiful, enough to set one up on the next stage of travel.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owners Pierre and Ria are friendly and go out of their way to ensure you get the most out of your stay. They are always on hand with a travel tip on what to do around town and where to go for a great meal etc. The house is lovely - Ria decorates all of the rooms individually and she has wonderful taste. We stayed in the Karoo room, which was great. The breakfasts and meals are superb. The chef will also prepare a picnic basket for you if you ask him the day before. We will definitely stay here again when we're in Graaff-Reinet. A quick note about the town: everything closes early on a Saturday and most things are closed all day Sunday. Being city-slickers we didn't realise this, and missed on some of the things we wanted to visit around town.

Room Tip: We loved the Karoo Room. Pierre, the owner, also showed us the Gypsy Room which looked a bit more...

This place is almost too nice. A gorgeous old home in the center of town (and a great town at that). I stayed in the Moroccan room -- lavishly decorated, a huge comfortable bed, a big tub for shower or jacuzzi, turn-down service (!), huge breakfasts, THE friendliest staff, gorgeous grounds (pool, hammock, hangout places...), not to mention a list of perks that just makes you blush when you are paying $65/night (your car is washed every morning, laundry is free, coffee and tea all day, etc etc). I can't recommend this place highly enough. Nor Graaff-Reinet. A great town full of character. Eat at Polka (semi-fancy), Coldstream (fancy), or Pioneers (pubby); definitely go to Nieu Bethesda 50km away if you can. (Eat at The Brewery and Two Goats deli.) And make sure to drive into Camdeboo National Park right outside of Graaff-Reinet for zebras, kudu, various boks, ostrich, etc. and the awesome spires of the Valley of Desolation (at sunset!).

AA'Qtansisi is well situated in the historic area of Graaf Reinet and close to restaurants. Our room was beautifully decorated in a moroccan style, full of cushions but not large enough for easy chairs – so to relax or watch TV you have to sit on the bed. One snag – the bed has been made into a 4-poster draped with net curtains so these all have to be lifted out of the way to see the TV...... and because the bathroom has no proper door, the person sitting on the bed looks directly the person sitting on the loo!
There is only one table outside - but plenty of room for others, so unless you are first in for breakfast, you have to eat in the somewhat dark and formal dining room, which is a shame on summer mornings. We were greeted by the friendly cook, but the owner only put in a brief appearance the following morning – so we missed the personal touch that is the main reason for staying in a B&B rather than a faceless hotel. We felt Aa'Qtansisi was somewhat style over substance. It was good, but not great.

I stopped here on my way from the Garden Route to Pretoria. Graaff-Reinet makes for a nice break, and the guesthouse the perfect accommodation. Lovely room, great food, and friendly service. During peak travel season, book early.

The service and the welcoming atmosphere from Pierre and Ria right through to every member of staff that I encountered was first class. Nothing was too much trouble. Very helpful with their knowledge and contacts in the area and ideas of things to do during my stay. The fruit plate at breakfast is a work of art in its own right! The secure parking facilities and its location so near to the centre of town make it an ideal location.
