On the western bank of the vast and idyllic Weboro Lagoon, nestled between palm trees and under large shady figs, Mopiri’s 10 luxury rooms all have panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Long winding boardwalks connect the seven luxury rooms and three family suites with the brand new main areal and the jetty giving you the opportunity to explore the surroundings from an elevated position. The luxury rooms are spacious, light and airy with king-size beds and large private decks. All have en-suite bathrooms with double sinks and large rain showers. The bathrooms are connected to the bedrooms via a short corridor, making the most of the wonderful views across the lagoon. The three family suites are positioned on an island close by, accessed by a walkway, allowing Mopiri to welcome children of all ages. All 10 rooms are generously spaced out offering privacy and the peace and quiet needed to fully enjoy the tranquillity of the Okavango Delta. At Mopiri you set your own pace. You may choose to spend your days exploring the Okavango Delta on one of the many experiences available, or simply kicking back and enjoying the tranquil surroundings of island life and the fully serviced spa.
The flight into Mopiri was very scenic, you got a good view of the delta. We were greeted by our guide Monika, who took good care of us throughout our stay. We then took a short boat ride from the airstrip to the lodge, where we were warmly welcomed by all the staff and given a tour of the camp. The manager Mili was really attentive and kept checking in to make sure we were happy.
Food was great and the portion sizes were good as well. Thank you to Chef Nati and the rest of the bar staff who were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.
The location of the lodge in the lagoon is tranquil, quiet and peaceful, provided there aren't big groups with smaller children - as others mentioned, noise does travel in the camp. We knew not to expect big game here, this location is more for relaxing, and beautiful scenery on the water. We saw many interesting birds, and also some hippos, crocodiles, snakes, and the camp has resident monkeys, squirrels and fruit bats.
Our tent room had a decent view over the lagoon, a big bed and shower. The room had bug sprays, cold and hot water flasks. The USB chargers in the room didn't work, but the main plugs did and you could also charge your devices in the main guest/dining area. Sadly the open water pool in the lagoon was undergoing maintenance so we couldn't use it, but there is another pool you can use.
We enjoyed the activities we did, boat rides, walks, the mokoro ride, and some fishing. Our mokoro guides Julius and Tonic were friendly, informative and did not pressure us into giving tips, but I recommend you bring some change to give as a tip anyway. Our guide Monika was good at adapting our activity when we couldn't catch any fish to make the most of our day.

The Good: While most guests arrive by plane, Mopiri can also be reached by road; it‘s a bumpy 30-minute 4x4 ride from Etsha 6. This makes it possible to add an Okavango delta side trip to a Caprivi tour. The show here is run by lovely Lemo who is the heart, soul, brain and hand of Mopiri. She seems to be working 24/7 and even found time to organize a birthday cake for my daughter, perfectly combined with a nicely decorated table and a song. The team is a very friendly bunch, and they are a great choir. What makes this place special compared to all the other lodges of our trip is the lack of other tourists. You have the Weboro lagoon and the adjacent one all to yourself. That sundowner on the boat, all alone at the hippo pond, was magical indeed. In the morning, there is a mokoro trip. The mokoro ride itself is interesting but fairly short, most of the time is spent on transits to/from the launching site and a rather pointless nature walk in the dust. The remote location is perfect for stargazing.
The Bad: Chalets, food and beverage as well as resort infrastructure are minimal and by no means adequate for the price tag, at least when compared to the Namibian lodges of our trip. Maintenance is also subpar: In our chalet, the water did get lukewarm only while our guide was unable to charge his mobile devices. To just blame nature and the remote location is kind of weak. Wifi is very limited in time, coverage and speed. My daughter missed a gym while my swimming pool visit did not happen either; there is a tiny plunge pool at the family section while the main pool is on a pontoon in the lagoon. My med school student travel companion vetoed my plan to enter stagnant water in the tropics.
The Ugly: Before you are allowed to go to your room, you have to sign an indemnity form. Basically accepting that they are not responsible for whatever they do wrong. Simply despicable.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your stay at Mopiri. We are so appreciative of all your feedback, and genuinely appreciate your kind words about Lemo and our team, as well as your positive remarks about the unique, serene experience we aim to provide. We love our Team members and the amazing hospitality that they deliver. We are sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We recognise that there is room for improvement and are continuously working to enhance our facilities. Regarding the WiFi and other modern conveniences, Mopiri's remote location presents unique challenges, but we aim to offer our guests an opportunity to disconnect and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the Okavango Delta. We hear your concerns about the indemnity form. It is standard practice to ensure our guests are informed about the unique environment and activities they will experience, though we assure you that guest safety and well-being are our top priorities. We value your feedback and will use it to improve our services and facilities. We hope you were still able to create some memorable moments during your stay, and we would be honoured to welcome you back in the future.

Mopiri was recommended by various friends who have had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful lodge. It is a must for those interested in witnessing the heart of the Okavango Delta. The family tent was very spacious and set amongst nature. All tents have a view of the water and papyrus. Pickup and drop off from Etsha 6 was smooth. All of the meals were delicious and staff made sure to listen to our preferences and dietary needs. Planning activities was also streamlined and it made the entire booking process, experience staying, and departing smooth and convenient. Sia was our nature guide and he was EXCELLENT. An expert boatsmen, guide, and all around chill guy. I cannot recommend this enough as it was a highlight for myself and family (all of us are young adults). Thanks again and hope to be back in the future.

I first visited the Mopiri lodge, run by Roots & Journeys, in 2019. Back then, it was one of my favourite places in my 6 country journey in Africa. When I was planning another trip to Southern Africa, I immediately thought of this place. A lot can change in five years and unfortunately for Mopiri and Roots & Journeys, the changes have not been for the better.
It is immediately clear upon arrival that there has been a lot of deferred maitenance. Our cabin/room had no hot water (note, the system is solar so hot water can vary by times of day) despite other rooms having hot water. They said they got it fixed, but they did not. The hot water never worked and we had to shower in a different cabin.
Safety of guests is not a priority at Mopiri. We went out on a boat tour with our guide one afternoon and we ran out of petrol. Our guide had neglected to check petrol levels before departure. To make the situation even worse, there was NO RADIO on the boat. Our guide had to leave us alone on the boat, in an area with hippos and other wildlife, and walk alone through to bush to get another boat to fill our tank. I later learned that the safety radios had been broken for a long time and nobody cared to fix them.
The food at Mopiri is okay. Not great, but generally not terrible. It was much better on my first visit 5 years ago.
I cannot recommend this lodge or the company. We stayed in two of their other lodges and experienced lapses in Safety Protocols as well. You are much better off traveling with an organization that actually cares about its guests and staff.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We regret that your recent stay at Mopiri did not meet your expectations, particularly given the positive experience you had with us in 2019 and more recently at Nokanyana. We greatly value all our guests' feedback, as it helps us continually improve. We work hard to ensure that every guest has a memorable and enjoyable experience, as reflected in the consistently positive reviews we receive on this platform and others. It is clear that we did not meet your expectations this time, and for that, we are truly sorry. We understand that the process of rescheduling your booking due to COVID-19 was challenging. While many companies faced significant retrenchments and layoffs during this period, we are proud to have retained all our team members, except for those affected by performance-related issues. Many of our team members support their families through this single job, so maintaining our workforce was a top priority. However, some team members chose to pursue other opportunities, which regrettably affected the continuity of service you received. In hindsight, a refund might have been a better option at the time, as it seems we were unable to meet your expectations. We apologise for the issues you encountered with the hot water in your room. Our solar water heating system is designed to be environmentally friendly, but it seems there was an unresolved issue during your stay, and we regret the inconvenience it caused. Regarding your safety concerns, please be assured that the safety of our guests is always our highest priority. It’s true that you experienced a petrol shortage on your boat trip, but we want to emphasise that our Nature Host (Guide) acted swiftly to resolve the situation and ensure your safety. The area you were in is generally safe, with no dangerous animals nearby, and our guide made the best decision at the time to leave you in the boat while he secured assistance. We regret that this situation caused you distress and are taking steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future. We are addressing the maintenance of our radios and reviewing all safety protocols to ensure they are fully operational. We also appreciate your comments about the food and apologise that it did not meet the high standards you experienced during your previous visit. We have recently employed a head chef who will be rotating through all our lodges and camps, implementing new menus, and providing training to our team. Once again, we apologise for not meeting your expectations and appreciate your feedback.

We stayed in a family tent at Mopiri for 2 nights. After having been driving around Botswana for 2 weeks, this was such a great change of scenery, with lots of water and water-based activities. Mopiri is situated in the western part of the Okavango delta, in a really serene location. There is no other lodge close by, and you really feel like you’re away from it all. We flew in to the nearby landing strip, but it’s also possible to arrive by road. The lodge itself has a fantastic terrace area with views of the water beneath. The tents were big and very comfortable. As it turned out, we were the only guests at the time, so we had the whole lodge to ourselves! The staff was excellent, the food great and the different activities very exciting. We went on boat safari, mokoro trip, fishing etc. Our guide, Nono was awsome and such a nice guy! When it comes to animals, there are no predators in this area, but we saw lots of elephants, hippoes, crocodiles, eagles, monkeys, and had a bushbuck hanging out underneath our tent. There’s also a very nice SPA, which we also warmly recommend. This is a Roots & Journeys lodge, and we combined the stay at Mopiri with a stay at one of their other lodges, Nokanyana (close to Kwai). This gives you both land- and waterbased activities, which you can also get at other lodges within the Okavango delta, but very often at much more expensive prices. A great stay!!

We spent 3 nights at Mopiri at the start of our trip. The lodge is located on a lagoon in the Okavango Delta - it is the only lodge on the lagoon so it feels extremely peaceful and secluded. All rooms look onto the lagoon, providing beautiful sunrise views from bed. We arrived by light aircraft which I would highly recommend - the views were breathtaking.
Our guide, Ludo, was excellent and took us on a number of activities - multiple sunset cruises, fishing, a trip by mokoro boat and a bush walk. Ludo was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals that we saw (mostly birds, together with one hippo and a herd of elephants on our final day). Ludo made sure that each of our sunset cruises were different and took us to some beautiful locations for sundown.
Within the lodge, the food (prepared by Chef Natti) was delicious and very varied, including one night of typical Botswana cuisine which we really enjoyed. The rest of the staff (led by Onks) is very attentive and always happy to help. We did not use the spa but heard from other guests that the massages were brilliant! We combined our stay at Mopiri with 3 nights at Roots and Journey's other lodge, Nokanyana, which provided a great mix of more laid back water based activities at Mopiri and game drives at Nokanyana.

We stayed at their Mopiri Lodge Dec 26th to Dec 29th. It’s an amazing location in the Okavango Delta with a beautiful lagoon always full of water.
They have the most amazing staff with a very positive attitude but lack hospitality training even though they try very hard.
The facilities are not being maintained and the lodge is slowly degrading. The chlorine pool was out of order; power charging plugs did not work in our lodge (No1); the views from the rooms are completely blocked as a result of overgrown foliage all around; water leaks in the sleeping accommodations have ruined the wooden floors; and worst of all, not enough food served. Our 18 and 21 year old boys were constantly hungry. We finally had to make some noise to get them extra helpings which were not really forthcoming.
We would not recommend this lodge in spite of their amazing location and fantastic staff. It’s degrading very quickly.

Our room (#2) was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view of the lagoon and night sky. The bed was good and the tent had a ceiling fan. The staff advised us that the power outlets, being solar, are not reliable enough for charging devices but ours worked just fine for my camera batteries and iPhone. The hot water was not working initially, but they were able to fix that quickly.
Food was plentiful and generally good, although the term 'vegetarian' must be explained. We were offered fish as a meat replacement. However, that was quickly remedied and the rest of the meals worked out perfectly.
Unlike other places that start their game drives at 7am, this place is a bit more laid back. There is really only one main activity, which includes taking the small boat up the only channel that is open further up. Two lakes later, switch over to a mokoro and finally a short nature walk on an island. It is a really nice introduction into the area. Besides that, one can try their luck at fishing.
I stayed on an island near Seronga on my last trip. That larger island had an abundance of elephants and hippos. This area is a lot more sparse in that regard. And the papyrus makes being beyond the lagoon impossible. Because it is a bit more relaxed, Mopiri is a great start or finish to a Botswana trip for 2 nights.

I've read through all the five star reviews and I wish our experience had been like these other reviewers. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in our stay. Pros - the staff was friendly and tried to be accommodating, and the food was very good. The rooms were fairly secluded and quiet (minus a noisy neighbor playing music through a speaker for one day of our stay), and it definitely is a romantic atmosphere from that perspective. Our guide for the week, Gee, tried his hardest to find some animals for us to see and show us a good time. The cultural tour was worth doing at a local village. Cons - the Roots & Journeys team neglected to actually book our flight from Maun to Mopiri, and we didn't find out until the day before our arrival. Fortunately, Mack Air took very quick action to correct the situation. When we arrived, we were immediately told that there are basically no animals at Mopiri, which was the most disappointing aspect of the stay, given we were in the Okavanga Delta, home of the Big 5. Despite Gee's best efforts, the only large animals we saw were donkey, cattle and a couple of eyes of very skittish hippos. We were told they were going to arrange a helicopter tour for us to try and see more animals, but after a day of delays, we were finally informed that they could not accommodate us. There were power issues while we were there, resulting in a day with no hot water, and a day with no ice, and a couple of times with no lights. The bar ran out of the liquor our friends were drinking, and that seemed like poor planning on the part of management to not order ahead when a bottle got low. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you want to do a true safari and experience the wildlife of Africa. If you are looking to just get away and have a quiet stay, this is probably a good place for you.

We have created a water based experience which should allow you to explore the waterways of the Okavango Delta, and compliment our other game experiences at Roots & Journeys. Please feel free to reach out to us at: marketing@rootsandjourneys.com and we would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail. We appreciate all feedback. Kind regards

Highly recommend Mopiri camp for those who want a unique wildlife experience in Africa. Gorgeously set on the lagoon water in the Okavango delta, with wonderful amenities, glamping at its best. The Roots and Journeys staff is amazing, we traveled with our 9 yo, and everyone went out of their way to make her comfortable and ensure she was enjoying the experience. Our camp director was Arona, he is a wonderful host. Our nature guide, Nono is kind, patient and very knowledgeable, if you are into birding, he’s your man. Also got to ride with the lovely Grace who drove us on the tricky road to go to our Mokoro ride, she is also very knowledgeable about the wildlife. If it’s your first time in the African winter, be prepared for cold nights, so bring layers, also bug spray (being on the water). The staff will help with warm fires and hot water bottles at night and preparing the bed with mosquito nets, meals are wonderful and they even catered to a vegetarian diet. We even used the spa and it was wonderful ! Highly recommend this experience for anyone seeking “not just a safari” experience in Africa.

The rates at Mopiri are inclusive of meals. There is a credit card machine for extras such as treatments and curio. Hope this helps. Look forward to seeing you soon!
Its easy to get to the place from Maun. Its one of the rare places in the Delta that you can get to by car and not have to take a plane, heli or boat. Its about a 3 hours drive away up the west hand side of the Delta. You park in a local village where they arranged for secure parking and then then they drive you in another 40 or so minutes. Although you can rent a car, I would suggest you send the lodge an email and they can arrange for a car / mini van to pick you up. For the really really cheap route, there is a local bus that goes from Maun to the local village (Etsa 6). Send them an email. I'm sure they will be very helpful.
There are more places to choose from in the Maun area.
