Motswiri Ride and Walk Camp is a gem of a camp.
I had a wonderful stay here and I was very impressed with the personalised attention that the camp offers. I travelled in May 2014 with two ladies, one of which was a horse rider and the other, like me, does not ride and was more focused on walking. The camp is great as it offered us personalised attention and they really cater for your specific interests.
The guide Andrew was fun and approachable and we had a great time out walking in the wild.
Rooms are simple but definitely comfortable. Service and meals were good.

Tip: If you are a horse rider be sure to let the camp know prior to travel - they have forms and information that needs to be completed to be sure they are pairing you with the right guide and horse.
Additionally if walking in your focus let the camp know in advance. This camp has specialist walking guides that they bring in to give clients focused attention.

Our family of 7 had a wonderful time at Motswiri Camp. The staff were amazing, taking great care to ensure we all had a great time. It was harder to see animals as it was the wet season, but each day we got to see something new. The accommodation was great, large tents with ensuite and very comfortable bed. Breakfast by the campfire in the morning was a great way to start the day. We had fun fishing in the lagoon during the day. Food was fantastic, great home cooking which we all enjoyed enormously. Horses are well cared for and enjoyable to ride. A truly gorgeous spot.

I'm not sure there are words for the amazing experience we had at The Motswiri Camp. Our stay feels surreal. Where do you start...The abundance of animals we were able to see up close and personal, The comfortable accommodations we enjoyed, the amazing sunsets we got to see, the healthy and sound horses we got to ride, the countryside we roamed on, the food, the delicious food that was prepared for us at every turn and the kind, caring, funny, charismatic, enjoyable people we got to spend our time with. What a trip!! We were gone for 3 weeks but this week was the highlight. You can not go wrong by choosing this place to visit. We did not want to leave.

Spent three wonderful nights at the Motswiri safari camp in Botswana. Tent was the most modern and spacious I've seen in maybe a dozen safaris. Full showers with hot water, flush toilets, two sinks, and electricity 24 hours a day. Mornings spent riding the horses, and afternoons spent on the river on either a motor boat or canoe. Horses were well trained. Guides were knowledgeable and eager to please. Boating gave a different perspective to the entire area. Food was good and very different every day. Very hard to come up with a negative at this camp.

The camp is only 5 mins from the airstrip and without any stops 35 minutes flight from Maun. It is a small camp with only 6 tents and has an intimate, family feel. When you are welcomed with ‘make this your home’ the staff really mean this and we settled into the routine very quickly. We were there principally for the riding (remember to pack all your riding kit including chaps) but we also took the opportunity to mellow out one afternoon and alleviate the riding soreness with a mokuru (canoe) trip.

There are 22 horses, all in wonderful condition, well kept and are much loved by Carmen and the stable team. Two rides are offered per day from 06:30 to approx 11:00-11:30 and from 16:30 to approx 18:30-19:00, you are always accompanied by an experienced guide and a member of the stable team. The wildlife we saw whilst on horseback was elephant, eland, kudu, buffalo, giraffe and hyena and a variety of birdlife. The guide also provides information on the local fauna and flora. The area used to be a hunting concession until 6 years, therefore the wildlife is far more shy and skittish than in other wildlife concessions in Botswana. Overall it is an opportunity to ride across some beautiful, remote landscapes, rather than a game viewing experience in itself. There are other options to riding - walking, fishing and game drive, etc.

The common area for meals is very comfortable and well laid out. The food was excellent, fresh local ingredients and beautifully cooked, although simple cuisine it was beautifully executed and was the best that we had in any of the camps. There were numerous small touches that made it special, such as a glass of champagne served after our first ride and later in the stay as a surprise the walkers and riders all convened in the same location alongside a river for champagne and canapes.

The stories over dinner and around the campfire were superb. Pete, the Relief Manager, was a font of amazing stories of his time as a bush helicopter pilot. We really felt at home, the tents were well appointed and fully plumbed in with hot water provided by solar. All laundry is inclusive and returned within one day, which is great to recycle your riding gear.

When we visited Motswiri (end October 2013) the water levels were very low and if you want the opportunity to canter through extensive reaches of open water best to check carefully the seasons / water levels.

Room/tent is great, very traditional but very comfortable & very private. The public areas are also simple, but all with a great view over the bush. They have great riding facilities for experienced riders (I didn't ride). Other activities are vehicle drives, canoes & walks. It's a nice quiet corner of Botswana, the game viewing was OK (we were there in Summer after all), but the whole experience was quality & very relaxing.

Traveling here was amazing. The people, the culture, the cuisine, all so amazing. The weather was perfect. Was there visiting a business partner in search for a very rare, specific, hot pepper to hopefully incorporate in our next sauce back in the states.

We stayed in 5 camps in Botswana but had 2 stand out experiences here-
1 A riding encounter with wild dogs with puppies and galloping with a giraffe on the same ride!
2 A canoe ride down the spillway, feeling very small, and quite close to lots of elephants, we should not have worried, Mosheti our guide accompanying us in a mokoro was excellent.

We loved the room, and the location is great, a lovely view of the Spillway and the horses grazing, and often, a couple of buffalo grazing.

Johnno was an excellent guide and host as well. The horses were in excellent condition and both the horses I rode were perfect for me.

We were lucky as our visit coincided with the Bptswana 50 year anniversary, it was a privilege to join the staff in their celebrations.

Set in unbelievably beautiful surroundings, this lodge is the place to visit. The staff are wonderfully friendly and their attention to detail is what made our stay here. The food was great, my vegetarian friend was well catered for and how they produced some of the meals in the middle of nowhere I have no idea! The "tents" were beautifully furnished and plenty big enough with a good en suite shower room, and always spotlessly clean. Our clothes were beautifully washed and ironed in a day and it was a pleasure to be woken up at the crack of dawn by a lady balancing a tray on her head with our hot coffee and muffin! Breakfast around the camp fire was the best - the kettle was kept hot over it and we cooked our toast on it too! Most game drives were done by boat and James and Moshete were in a class of their own when it came to spotting the wildlife . We also walked through the bush tracking elephant and lion which was very exciting - the former we found and watched them parade right past us ! Awesome!
I cannot recommend this place highly enough - we have already booked to return next year in the drier season for a different aspect of this beautiful place in the Okovango Delta.

My family with two teenage boys spend 6 days at Motswiri and it was truly memorable holiday. The camp exceeded our expectations. The staff were very friendly and the guides were exceptional. There was not one day that we did not one day that we did not have great sightings even if December is not the best season due to the lush vegetation and the dispersion of the animals in a very large concession. We saw, elephants, buffalo, lionesses w/cub, mail lions, even a cheetah kill in real time. The staff were all amazing so I would not like to call one out in particular. The tents were very comfortable, breakfast near the camp fire in the mornings at sun rise was great, lunch in the bush truly amazing and food was simple but were good and in a great family atmosphere. I recommend this location both for couple but also families. I certainly hope to come back one day.
