Detailed Reviews
We found it very difficult to plan our trip into the Okavango Delta - outside of booking with a tour company, it is challenging to plan on your own and difficult in the dry season to really see the Delta if you aren't in the middle of it. So we ended up booking with Impala Tours and our itinerary included a 2 night stay at Gcadikwe Island, which we used as our home base for boat trips around the Delta (2x per day).
The camp itself is in a beautiful location, and while some other reviewers complained about upkeep I thought that the grounds (with fallen trees, etc that are in the middle of things but don't obstruct anything) made it feel connected to the island. The dining area was nice. The lounge area had old furniture with cushions made from material that do not make sense for this setting - very warm wool/felt that retained heat.
Interestingly, we were the only two guests at the camp during this time, which made for a slightly odd experience. The staff was pleasant but did not go out of their way to cater to us (aside from during meals), so we and our guide always had to ask for things we needed. The food was decent; they did the best they could with what I imagine is severely limited access to ingredients, and the chef obviously took pride in his work because he would come out and review each item with us.
The tent itself was comfortable, with two beds together and it was nice that they provided scentless bug spray. We spent the whole night listening to the sounds of hippos. The "en suite" bathroom was a pit latrine in an outdoor area in the back of the tent. Overall, it was what you would expect. They have the standard bucket shower and prepared water for us when we asked, which was nice. The bathroom areas could have used some work overall but were fine.
Overall, I think this is a good option as it is one of the cheaper options that is actually in the Delta, and I would stay again. But it is important to know what it has to offer, because many people who travel to the Delta are looking for more of a luxury experience, which this is not. This is good for people who are willing to rough it a bit.

Camping in the Okavango Delta is one of my all-time favourite experiences, and Gcadikwe Camp provides this experience with some appreciated comforts! We organized our trip through Fleet Foot Safaris. We flew by charter flight to Xakanaxa Airstrip in Moremi, which was just the best way to start off the trip! From there we were taken on a relaxing boat trip to the island camp.
We had sole use of the camp and were made very welcome by all the staff, who cooked great meals and answered all our numerous questions. The tents were much larger and more comfortable than we had anticipated. Our family of 4 easily fitted in, in two double beds. We were even given hot water in the morning to freshen up and hot water was provided in the camp shower (tent bathrooms were attached to the tent bedroom!).
Throughout the day and night we could hear the hippos grunting in the waters surrounding the island, which is just the best sound to sleep to! Our most unforgettable experience was having an elephant feed OVER our tent at night. It was one of the main highlights of the entire trip even if it was fairly terrifying at the time. I can't imagine seeing the Delta in any other way, but camping on one of these islands!
The only reason I have rated this with 4-stars instead of 5 is because I felt that the camp should provide clean, drinkable water (that does not come in plastic bottles), and the alcoholic drinks were overly expensive. But, I would definitely still return to the camp regardless of these issues.

My husband and I visited the Moremi National Park in Botswana a few days ago and we spent two nights in the Gcadikwe Island Camp. Everything was organised perfectly - from the pick-up by boat at the Xakanaxa boat station, the boat transfer which is at the same time an awesome game viewing experience, the welcome by the staff upon arrival at the island, the spacious and comfortable tents, the food (Wilson, the cook, is a real magician when it comes to preparing the meals!) to the sundowner cruises on the Delta... everything was just super! Sheer bliss staying at Gcadikwe Island! This was our second visit... We will be back!!

No sheets in one of our beds! No help from the manager! He simply said: " I know you're disappointed, but there is nothing I can do about it, we've run out of sheets." !!!
The whole place is neither well-kept nor clean. And nobody seems to care. It's a pity, because it COULD be nice.
I recommend to choose another camp in beautiful Moremi!

Luxury tented suites. Family-style dinners are really fun. Food is very good. Open bar for wine and spirits.
Excellent safari guides. Experienced and knowledgeable. Would love to be able to return. Was with a girlfriend. My husband would love it.
