I have never given a terrible rating and quite honestly have waited over a month to write this review because I know the owners will respond negatively based on their responses to previous critical reviews. Because we depend on honest reviews on Trip Advisor to help us make trave

Stayed only for one day thankfully. Rooms are in a big tent, intrinsic decor with bathtub in the room, shower outside with good water pressure, two water basins in the room, canopy and few lights. Now the minus points: too far away from the airport, a dusty bumpy drive of more th

Response from Diane W, Manager at Royal Tree Lodge
Responded 27 Aug 2018
Hello thanks for your feedback on your visit to Royal Tree Lodge. We so want all our guests to enjoy their stay and it is always with sorrow that someone did not feel it was what they expected. However, I have spoken to the Manager at the lodge and also seen the questionnaires that were completed by other members of your group and tour leader. It would appear that the rest of the of your group were happy with their stay at Royal Tree Lodge, remarking that the food was excellent and that they would definitely return. I understand too that the poor person who was ill had been ill prior to coming to Royal Tree Lodge. We hope that you enjoyed your holiday to Botswana.

We stayed 1 night at the lodge in between safari trips in Botswana. Very nice lodge with a lovely terrace and common area where you eat dinner and breakfast family style. The chalet was very nice and the bed very comfortable.

The lodge is located within a private reserve and ev

Thank you for your feedback it is much appreciated. On the waling trails we are having problems here as in the forest it is easy to put markers on the trees but in the open areas we use the small pegs in the ground, unfortunately the animals do know these over on a regular basis. Your point is taken though perhaps we are going to have to put in more permanent markers, we were trying to make it as less intrusive as it is possible. We have just recently introduced some more animals to help the gene pool, after their catch and release it does take a while for animals to settle in their environment. Hopefully we will see you again one of these days. I will advise the staff of your kind words.

Stayed 1 night passing through Maun on way to the Delta from Namibia. Nice enough place with the main Lodge area very well set up. The room/safari tent were good and comfortable though cool at night. The evening meal was reasonable and the family table style way of eating was

I stayed here for two nights before heading out on an amazing horseback ride safari with Ride Botswana/David Foot Safari. I had high hopes but left feeling disappointed in quite a few things. My overall observation is that this is an incredible property with great potential, but

Response from Diane W, General Manager at Royal Tree Lodge
Responded 03 Jul 2018
Hello, Thank you for your feedback, my apologies for getting back to you now but I wanted to meet with the Lodge Management and get their response. First of all, we are very sorry that you were not happy with your stay at Royal Tree Lodge. I have noted and requested that envelopes are provided for the questionnaires that you are can fill in, I am sorry that you felt uncomfortable when asked if you would, however there is no obligation to do so. We do so however rely on our guests to tell us how they felt. Julius our main lodge manager has worked with us for the past 20 years and is devastated to receive this feedback. He is very sorry for anything that might have been seen as a hasty clean up. We have a set menu (for dinner and lunch) at the Lodge and three different chefs. Given your comment above, iIt is surprising to me then to see that you have put the meals as being excellent/good on your questionnaire as well as the General Impression you filled in where you said the Lodge Management and staff were available when you needed them as excellent, and that your stay met or exceed your expectations as excellent. Similarly your final comment was to talk about the loud music - but you went on to say that the stay was otherwise excellent and a Big Thank You on the front page with a happy face. We did have a problem with loud music being played across the river that weekend, this is being addressed by local government and there policies in place to keep controls of noise. I do take your comments seriously too and know that even the best trained staff can have their bad days and it needs to be brought to their attention. However, I know from 40 years in high end hospitality that I have managed to get some(not all) of the best staff available in Botswana. Please come again and visit and we can promise you an excellent stay.

HI could you please let me know if TripAdvisor has the correct location for this lodge, the pointer on the map appears be be nowhere near the river. Also please let me know if this lodge was previously called "Motsentsela Tree Lodge " thanks Dan.
First of all the pointer on the map is not in the correct position. If you look at the map and follow the river to your left from the centre of town it is probably 10 km down stream. However although we are on the river, the lodge is based back in the natural forest that borders the Thalamakane River, and yes we used to be called Motsentsela Tree Lodge. Our accommodation is the best in the Maun Area although we are 14 km from the airport. We do hope that you will consider us for your stay here.
