We used the Discovery Bed and Breakfast both on the way to Moremi National Park and on the way back from it. Both times had a family chalet and we were very happy with it. It consists of a large room with double bed as well as a bunk bed for children. Both beds are surrounded by mosquito nets, so you are protected for the pet. There is no air conditioning, but there is a ceiling fan plus another floor fan. In an adjoining room is the bathroom with shower and toilet. Everything makes a cozy and rustic impression, which was absolutely enough for us. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet so you could sleep well. Wi-Fi is actually only available in the cafe, but since this was very close, we also had reception in the room. There is also a pool that our son appreciated for cooling off. The house cats were also very trusting and were stroked intensively.
The tasty breakfast was buffet style including egg dishes and the car is parked in the secure courtyard. There is also an evening menu offered, but we did not use this and went to dinner in Maun instead. The staff and especially the owner Marije were super-friendly and extremely likeable.
So a clear recommendation for anyone looking for great accommodation on the way to or from the national parks.

Discovery B&B was a wonderful green oasis. The team were welcoming, and very efficient, getting us quickly into our clean, comfortable and attractive traditional themed cabin. Great showers in the en suite! The gardens were a highlight, we sat on our veranda in the late afternoon with a glass of wine listening to the birds.
We had a great dinner based on local Botswana dishes and ingredients. Breakfast also was delicious.

The B&B is a short easy drive from Maun centre and is very quiet and peaceful

We had a lovely stay at Discovery B&B before and after our mobile river safari in the delta. Marije is very helpful and always around to suggest places to visit, or to attend to her guests’ needs. Maggie and her team cooked us delicious traditional Botswana dishes for breakfast and dinner each day and we were very impressed with their hospitality and kindness. Our party included a vegan guest who was welcomed and attended to with amazing vegan options. The huts were very comfortable with lovely hot, high pressure outdoor showers.
Highly recommend Discovery if you are on your way to or from your safari, or need a stopover to split up a long drive.
Thanks Marije and Team!

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here. It’s one of those places where you feel completely comfortable & at home. The staff are friendly & welcoming, our room was great with nice comfortable beds & big bathroom. Breakfasts are substantial & we had delicious dinners there too at a communal table so you could talk to other guests & share stories. Marije & Rene are great hosts & very helpful with advice & ideas. Marije gave us lots of suggestions for our trip up to Khwai. The guest house is about 20 mins outside Maun centre in a nice peaceful shady setting. I can thoroughly recommend staying here.

Discovery Bed and Breakfast is the best place for you if you are looking for a calm, beautiful authentic African lodging experience. The rooms are simple and very neat with an outdoor shower thats breathtaking. The breakfast is amazing and the hosts are kind enough to pack your breakfast if you have a morning trip scheduled. Dinner is exquisite and the hosts and chef are so careful with your dietary restrictions and cater to your needs. We made so many new friends and the hosts keep you entertained with stories about the lodge. They were super helpful with booking our activities in maun. We were young and a small group of 3 girls but we felt safe as well. Staying at the lodge is an experience on its own and I recommend this place wholeheartedly,

The Owners and all staff were extremely nice, helpful and always there for us. We felt very comfortable and could enjoy our holiday.
They also helped us plan Things to do around the lodge, in Maun and we were able to leave excess luggage in the lodge during our Fly in Safari.

A beautiful well maintained accommodation. Green garden, many birds that can be observed especially at breakfast. The owners helped us arrange a mokorotour u were also otherwise available for any questions. Great atmosphere at dinner together and the campfire. We felt very comfortable. Highly recommended. We stayed 3 nights there.

Rustic comforts in a beautiful setting. This is a comfortable place to slide into Africa. Super-friendly hosts and a relaxed atmosphere hit the right notes as people travelling to/from safari adventures tell stories around the communal fire. The rooms are simple, but have everything you need. The location is quiet and peaceful, but easily accessible to Maun.

This is a place where it feels like coming home. Marije and Rene are very hospitable. You can park your car on their own property. It's never far to walk to your own place to sleep. Whether you take a seat by the firepit, drink a cup of coffee at the coffee corner (with WiFi) or relax in your room or private terrace. There is a calm and good atmosphere everywhere. Rooms provide everything you need. Rene or Marije always make time to tell you more about the possibilities of Botswana or whatever. For us a place where we enjoyed both times and where we would like to return.
Thanks, Imke, Richard and Valentijn

Our family of 5 had 2 separate overnight stays at the Discovery B&B - after our first night there, the kids especially couldn't wait to get back again to visit the friendly cats who would sit on their laps for cuddles. Needless to say, we loved this place, which is in a quiet location only a short walk from the river. The gardens are beautiful and we happily spent time sitting on our verandah or over at Carol's cafe. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed, although the lighting is a little dim. The beds were comfy and warm, as was the shower which had plenty of hot water. On the first night we chose to also have dinner at the restaurant after a very long journey, but it was so good, there didn't seem to be much point in going anywhere else, so we booked in for dinner on our second night as well. Both dinners and breakfasts were excellent, even catering for my husband who is gluten free. Thank you Marije and everyone for such a warm welcome to Botswana!

How easy was it to get into & visit Maun or is there anything to do nearby for a day Sylvia
Answer from Stephen J
Cape Town Central, South Africa138 contributions30 helpful votes
Hi Sylvia, Maun is a nice city with some interesting bars and restaurants to chill out in but not a lot more to do there. If you turn left when leaving Discovery, you have a 45 minute ride over a very bad road, to the entrance of Moremi Game Park. We have a wonderful game viewing time there, the highlight being a herd of bathing hippos. But a strong word of warning, DO NOT self drive. I have a 4x4 and still got stuck more than once in the very deep and fine sand they call a road. There are great guides in suitable vehicles which are the recommended option.

Take a Taxi, max it will cost is 10 Euro or on a good day - Discovery will collect you at the airport, which is less than 10 Km from the lodge....

I would book as soon as you possibly can as Discovery GH is very popular. Best value and best place in Maun to stay in my opinion. Lovely owners and staff, beautiful setting and interesting locally decorated chalets.
