Experience in the middle of the bushveld a luxurious oasis of tranquility and relaxation. Leopard Plains is conveniently situated on the doorstep to the famous Okavango Delta closed to Maun and the perfect start or end for your adventure tour through Botswana by car or aeroplane (airstrip 1 km from lodge).

We were the only guests at this small lodge when we were there, but the staff did not skimp! It's a lovely property with a beautiful dining/bar/pool area, and spacious and beautiful sleeping tents. Very relaxing and a lovely place to just sit in the peace and quiet and watch the animals at the watering hole by the pool.
But by far the best part of the lodge is the bartender/chef/manager Kabelo. Kabelo completely made our stay -- she was warm, helpful, and served us a spectacular, private four course dinner by lantern-light, while pointing out the visiting zebras. She's worth her weight in gold and we hope the owners know what a credit she is to the property!

Leopard Plains is located in a place away from everything, where you truly feel like you are in the heart of Africa. Around, only bush. The tents are large, spacious, equipped with everything you need without frills. Clean, well furnished in their simplicity and essentiality. Around the tent, common area and pool there are impala, oryx and kudu. The staff is available, always smiling and ready to satisfy the guest's requests. I had asked for a cake to be prepared for my husband's birthday and, in addition to the cake (very good), they complimented us with a bottle of wine. The lodge is perfect for relaxing, seeing animals directly from your tent or while having dinner, going on a safari in the reserve (where you can have an aperitif overlooking a wonderful sunset) and visiting the Makgadikgadi NP. Thanks to all the staff and a special greeting to Nana!

An oasis of calm with very warm welcome from Cabala, lovely welcome drink and personal attention taking us to our room, which was beautifully made up. As it was cold in the evenings at this time of the year, when we went to bed a hot water bottle (Bush baby) had been put in the bed.
Food was fantastic cooked by Cabala, with the open air restaurant overlooking an area of their park/farm where the wild animals come to get water. A log fire was lit in the evening where guests could sit outside in front of it after dinner.
The entire staff are a credit to Carolina, we were so impressed that we cancelled a stay at another guest house to return to Leopard Plains for another night.
Lovely breakfast with freshly cooked options also. All the food is home made, including the bread which was made fresh each day.

A lodge that has been furnished with great attention to detail. The tents were spacious and clean. The pool is an inviting place to linger and you can watch kudus at a small watering hole. Corinna is an attentive host but also very business-minded! We would have expected the breakfast and dinner to be of higher quality for the price we paid. It was the most expensive lodge on our tour and we have definitely had cheaper lodges that offered a lot more. I would most advise against the game drive or sundowner trip. Very high prices and not even a drink (not even water) is included. We were really surprised that we were charged for every glass - that was not the case on any other trip we had been on. If you are prepared to spend so much money for peace and quiet - but only for peace and quiet - I can recommend the lodge. If you expect a little more for your money, definitely not.

This was the most expensive accommodation of our 4-week trip and by far the worst. There were hundreds of insects in our tent - it was probably not airtight, there was no fridge and no air conditioning - well, we knew that beforehand but it was unbearable. The game drive was supposed to cost over 400 dollars per person (without drinks), which we didn't do and wasn't stated anywhere, otherwise we would never have booked this accommodation. There was also a laundry service for 8 euros per T-shirt. We were the only guests and so the lights to the tent were probably not switched on at night and we stumbled to the tent using our cell phone light, which was pretty scary and dangerous. The food was unloving and very bad by African standards. Drinks expensive, the pool full of algae and dirty, a coffee we ordered was served in an instant glass and a canteen with hot water. Never ever in this price range, just a mockery. We then cut short our stay and did without the 2nd night in the heat and with insects. No reaction at all... we didn't want our money back, we just wanted to voice our criticism. Well, friends, this is definitely not going to work in the long term. The staff were super nice and tried hard and it wasn't their fault. But we were immediately told that criticism is not appreciated by management and will be dismissed. What a huge disappointment

Nice rooms, nice property. Staff at the restaurant is really nice too.
Unfortunately, when I asked at the end of our 1st visit to have another room for our 2nd visit three days later, the owner himself and the general waitress laughed openly at me about the reason. It was very humiliating, and not what you'd expect from a service of this standing.

Response from Tim Flachberger, Owner at Leopard Plains
Responded 30 May 2022
Sehr geehrte Frau Rasmussen!

As we went there after the rain in a green season, we didn't see any leopards. They might have come around our tents, but we couldn't see them. However the lodge was very welcoming: we arrived late but they organised a sunset game drive, they offered us pick up and drop off between the bus stop, and so on. The tent was spacious and cozy. The dinner was interesting as we ate bone marrow! We had a great time there. Thank you so much.

The decision to travel in this difficult times ( because of the pandemic) and not to postpone it for who knows how long paid off. We didn't see any leopards because it was thw dry season but plenty of other things to do. Good food and the loaf of bread baked daily by Mma Kabelo won't be easily forgotten. But the real bonus were the starry nights watched laying on the chairs by the swimming pool.....a dream came true....

I had a great stay at Leopard Plains and would definitely go back. The accommodation is very beautiful and laid-back. If you are searching for some quite moments, it´s a good place to go to. It is not far away from Maun and also close to the famous salt pans. The rooms are very nice and equipped with everything you need. Dinner was really delicious, but I missed a bit more attention to detail especially for the breakfast. Further there was no possibility to go on any guided activity, self-service during the day for drinks, not enough sunchairs at the pool for a tiny amount of guest and they didn´t accept credit cards, due to some issues, at that time. I am aware of corona and that the industry is having a tough time, however there were too many tiny little things missing for a 5 star rating.
