We arrived after dark. We couldn't see a thing. As far as I recall, the only WiFi available was at the reception area. We had rented a cottage, but it was bare of bed sheets and didn't appear very clean, so we decided to camp. The ablution area was quite nice, except for the lack of hot water. The pool did not appear to be in use.
We had ordered food. It was handed to us cold, in metal takeout containers. The reception staff appeared surprised that we hadn't brought along our own microwave. We ended up using a single microwave to heat up about 15 servings, one by one, after transferring them to paper plates, The food was tasty, although some guests didn't get what they had ordered (with no explanation).

Good day diane_chehab, So sorry for the delay in responding. Thank you for your rating and rather puzzling review of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge. So sorry you arrived in the dark as the grounds of Woodlands are really lovely and appreciated by so many of our guests who have travelled before you and since. Strange that you could not "see a thing" because we have good, subtle lighting all over the property for our guests benefits, security as well as avoiding light pollution for you and our neighbours. Most campers, however, do usually travel with the necessary lighting that they would require on a bush adventure. Our WIFI supply is very good with 20GB being received. Even WhatsApp videos calls can be made from around the swimming pool area and in all the en-suite Riverview rooms! Not many camping grounds or even lodges in Botswana offer free WIFI other than at the reception but we here at Woodlands have gone the extra mile for our valued appreciative guests and installed boosters all around the property for guest’s conveniences. Sometimes we feel that perhaps the night sounds of animal life and crackling fires would be better entertainment than the dreaded social media that keeps so many heads bowed over to! It was winter when you visited and so obviously there was no-one in the pool swimming but it is still well maintained and has been for the past 21 years. It is still in very good, in fact, immaculate condition. The pool pump gets switched off at midday every day to save on power as we as a business are still “tip-toeing” through this Covid era. As was mentioned to other members in your group your discussions and disappointments needed to be directed to your group leader about the “bare” chalets that were booked for your use with a “mattress only” to be supplied. Our chalets have been closed since the start of Covid -19 in April 2020 and were opened especially for your group and have since been closed again. They were spotlessly cleaned for your group’s arrival. NO LINEN WAS PROVIDED as was agreed with your group leader as a discounted price was given to her because the rooms were not fully equipped as normal --- The additional service that was offered with limited staff on the ground points to that fact that we should not have gone to the trouble of trying to assist your party. We are a self-catering establishment, marketed as such, and do not have a restaurant or bar. However, as a service to our tired travelling guests we do offer pre-prepared delicious meals which are packaged in tin foil take-out containers (usually for their own heating). The meals were not handed to you cold because as you say most travellers do not travel with a microwave. Our normal practise for campers is to heat the meals in the “single” microwave that is in the reception. The ladies on duty that evening worked very hard heating all 15 of those meals one after the other to provide the service. Interestingly enough all the meal dishes were found empty in the bins next morning which indicates that most, if not all, enjoyed their meals! Again, a communication breakdown between your group leader and our staff in attendance on the night as the breakdown of specific meals required and for whom was not received. However, we do still value your rating and comments as it always gives me, Anne West the owner, the opportunity to check thoroughly why such ratings or comments are made and evaluate what areas should be attended to and/or corrected. Thank you again and we trust that the rest of your holiday through Botswana was trouble free and enjoyable? Regards, Mike & Anne West (Owners)

After a long ours trip with 3 kids in the car, this was a bonus. Very comfortable chalets, well stocked and the ready made food helped a lot. It was very cold when we were there and we slept very good as there is enough heaters and blankets etc.
I can strongly recommend Woodlands and we will definetly go there again.

The Lodge is meticulously clean and well organized , the attention to detail in the rooms is top class . The drive to Lodge whilst along a dirt road is well signposted and the out of town location makes it special as it is so peaceful with fantastic bird life , beautiful trees and gardens . Highly recommended and worth an overnight stay or even a few days spent relaxing .

The road from Kasane to just short of Woodlands Stop Over was rather stressful being very busy, somewhat potholed, visited by various animals including elephants, giraffe, donkeys, cows & goats, so we arrived later than anticipated. We chose to enjoy sun-downers and an early pre-ordered supper listening to the bird life instead.

The meal was so tasty that we ordered sufficient frozen packs for our 3-day stay at Mapungubwe National Park in South Africa!

Hello John1, We are so sorry to hear that the journey from Kasane to Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge was so stressful-- it is such a shame that the roads have not been maintained over the years with the vehicle traffic being much heavier and busier now -- The domestic animals are also a national problem but of course the wild life crossing the roads is what we all just LOVE seeing! We are also so sorry you arrived too late to enjoy more of what Woodlands has to offer but are very glad that the birds happily entertained you while you enjoyed the sunset? Of course we are just SUPER thrilled to hear that our pre-prepared meals satisfied your appetites and that you took some away to enjoy along your journey! We trust that many happy memories were made and that you will be back again soon to enjoy both Woodlands and our beautiful country Botswana. Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Owners)

We needed a place to stop over on our way home from Kasane to Johannesburg and Woodlands was PERFECT. The location is gorgeous, the facilities fantastic and it's absolute genius that they have frozen meals for guests to enjoy as well. We loved the little extras - the shortbreads, the hot water bottle on the bed. All in all an excellent experience!

Good evening FrankH716, So lovely receiving high rating and super review of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge. We so value your recognition of our efforts of the running and maintaining our little oasis in our beautiful country of Botswana. Glad you enjoyed a couple of our 'pre-cooked' meals as well! Sadly no bulk meat orders can be taken for movement through Botswana at this present moment - Sept 2022 - due to a 'foot & mouth' outbreak! However, it will all return to normal in the very near future we're sure! Trust it won't be long before you are back on the road and heading back to stay with us? Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Owners)

We stayed here for one night en route from Kasane back to Johannesburg. We booked a 2 bedroom chalet, expecting a somewhat basic type stopover room. We could not have been more wrong! We were taken to a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with everything and more that you could possibly need for a night on the road.

The care with which this property is managed is evident both in the accommodation and in the beautiful surrounding gardens.

I would not hesitate to recommend Woodlands to anyone in need of accommodation in the Francistown area.
