3rd stay here since 2017, very pleased to say the standards have not deteriorated like other places we have re visited. Friendly staff, excellent cleanliness within the Riverside chalets, very comfortable and tranquil, even the dirt track from the main road is maintained and relatively smooth. Beautiful bird song from 5am and a walk along the riverbed before breakfast is a must, friendly owners, would highly recommend a stay here

Good day Mabuledi, Thank you so much for your very high rating and lovely review of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge. Another thanks for your regular support and thrilled to hear that you highly recommend other travellers stay with us. Your recognition of our friendly staff who work hard in all areas of the business maintaining the standards which we have set for ourselves and to which we will continue to strive for as a matter of priority is much appreciated. Work is continually done on the main access road in an attempt to keep it relatively smooth. As we await the rains (November) we hear the call from all the birds as they too await the arrival of the precious rain. The Woodland Kingfisher HAS just ARRIVED this week, to breed and then return in April/May next year -- so we are enjoying it's beautiful call now. We are named after this migrant bird! We so look forward to your future visits and trust that you had a wonderful trip through our beautiful Botswana? Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Mrs)

This resort is superbly run and maintained and is an attractive stop for nature lovers. Situated on the banks of the Tati River, the owners have made full use of the environment.
We stayed in a cottage which was well fitted and satisfied our needs.

An absolutely ideal place to stop over at.
Clean, spacious and if you can get the cottage (absolutely adorable).
Everything I needed I found and then some.

Each bedroom had it own private heater, each bedroom had it private onsuite bathrooms, towels to spare and cleand as my own at home.

Surprise - Was the lounge fireplace and all the outside furniture to host two famlies and children.

This is the third time we have stayed at Woodlands. I admit I was the client from hell as we had a large group who were constantly changing because of covid restrictions and illness. However, I thought their cancellation fees during a time that is difficult for everyone, were excessive. Everywhere else we stayed in Botswana and Zimbabwe were happy for the business and waived the cancellation fees. The water in the showers was NEVER hot and the lady we spoke to in the morning admitted that some of the geysers had been turned off. We ordered food which was excellent but were only provided with a microwave to heat it on request. I had emailed in advance and asked that each couple be given a separate invoice including their food and that any cancellation fees be billed to my account. We arrived late due to delays at the border and this was totally beyond the capability of the lady who met us. I asked if it wasn't possible to see the manager and was told that she had gone for the night. We were all left with the feeling that the money was more important than the service. I won't be recommending Woodlands again.

Good day riverrat205, Oh dear how very disappointing to hear that after previous stays with us this one was not up to your expectations and that you feel we are not worthy your recommendations any longer. We apologise for any frustrations that were carried over to us from your delayed time at the border crossing into Botswana. Our cancellation policies are in place for the survival of our business as once a booking is made the accommodation is then reserved for you and if cancelled and especially at very short notice, as was the case with one of your travellers, we in turn do not have the time to retrieve that accommodation to sell it again. Sorry about that! If I may respond to your comments in order of their presentation then I would like to comment on the lack of hot water in the campsite area where you were staying. The evening was busy and both geysers on with control valves to switch over from one to the other as one gets emptied of the hot water. It appears the one valve was not opened in due time for which we take full responsibility and for which we apologise profusely. (Always safer to stay in an en-suite room with one’s own geyser and hot water especially on a first night stay in Botswana.) I have been briefed on the situation with the meals that you ordered and which you found to be so delicious. The ladies were heating and delivering those meals as fast as the microwave could cope and they were doing so as a matter of normal practise for guests in the campsite who do not have their own heating/warming facilities! They are the same ladies who prepare and cook the meals and are very disappointed at the comment about their poor service and attention to your needs. With regard to the request to prepare individual invoices for each couple - that request was only received the afternoon of your impending arrival and without the information of how much each individual had paid that request is impossible to fulfil. A bulk payment had been made by yourself and so we did not know who had paid what—one person is always easier to deal with as you so happily agreed with on your later arrival. The people in your party, for whom you had painstakingly taken time to book and re-arrange for were so bitterly and almost angrily disappointed with the accommodation that you had booked for them! Always so difficult to meet the individual needs of travellers in groups. You tried your very best! A job that you had done so well right from the early requests for accommodation. The manager was contacted at the time. She lives just 2 kms down the road and was more than happy to come back to help you. You told the reception ladies that you would handle the balance of payment together with the issue of the cancellation and you told the ladies that all your group members had been fully informed about the nature of the accommodation that was reserved for them by you and that their complaints were unfounded. That particular area of our business (the campsite chalets) remain closed since April last year (2020 COVID) and were opened especially for your party. They are now closed and will not be available again till our business returns to some sort of normality. In hind-sight we should have kept them closed even after your continual requests to open for you. We are very saddened that your experience here at Woodlands was not to your satisfaction and we trust that one day, after a wonderful trip through Botswana, you will find the grace to give us a second chance to try to meet your expectations? We do look forward to your return trips when things are “back to normal” and we have a full compliment of staff and not the skeleton staff with which we are trying to run a limping business. Thank you again for taking the time to comment and air your views and dissatisfaction. I have had exhaustive chats with my loyal staff who always offer of their very best at all times. I am proud of them and salute them at such difficult times in their lives also. Kind regards, Anne West (Mrs) Owner

After a long trip through Namibia, Zambia and Botswana we have come across many campsites that have obviously sat back during the quiet, covid affected months with no maintainance or planning done for post covid times. Woodlands was very different - from the prompt helpful replies from Sunet, the friendliness and endless patience shown by Connie and all the staff, the neatness and cleanliness of the campsite, pool and ablutions, the upkeep of the bird trails around the lodge grounds. Everything just made our stay a memorable one and we will certainly suggest to anyone travelling through Botswana to make a stop here. It's close to Francistown for the necessary PCR testing and the Thorn Tree coffee shop is a must. Well done Woodlands for showing us that, with good management and motivated staff, it's still possible to run a good establishment when the tourist numbers have dropped, this certainly hasn't always been the case elsewhere.

Good day Happiness02792845468, Thank you for your good rating of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge. We are 7 kms off the tar road on a dirt road which we maintain and grade twice a year. Glad to hear that you upgraded to one of our self-catering Riverview rooms for your early getaway but only after you had appreciated the lovely shady campsites and clean pool. Hope you got to enjoy one of our homemade 'Mike's meals' readily available from our reception? They are even nice to take back home with you for that ready to eat meal after the long journey home! Trust that you had a wonderful trip through our beautiful Botswana with loads of photos and memories to treasure. We hope to see you back at Woodlands again soon? Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Owners)

Was advised by mates to use Woodlands as a stop over when traveling to Maun. The accommodation was nice and quiet. The setting was beautiful and quiet - just what you wanted for your first night in Botswana.

The only downfall of the establishment, in my opinion, was the cost of their booze. We bought a six pack of beers and these were excessively over priced. My advice to visitors would be to bring their own food and drinks - a trip into Francistown prior to checking in would not go amiss.

I will be back though. Just better informed

Hello brentm415 Thank you so much for taking the time to rate and review us and so highly! So glad to hear that you accepted a recommendation from a friend and that you came and stayed and were not disappointed. Also very happy to hear that you will stop over again when passing through. We have been running huge specials on the accommodation to try and capture some of the little business that is around and passing by. Sorry to hear that the alcohol seems over priced in your opinion but as you are fully aware business has been extremely slow (if any) for over 18 months and the holding of stock through closures of bottle stores etc is quite a costly exercise for us. As our business improves, hopefully, we will look at all the costings again. Thank you for your comments though - we do appreciate all of them. Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Mrs)

Checked into Woodlands on 16th November. Our party of four booked both a cottage and a camping site. This is an oasis and not to be missed. The cottages are all of a high standard, spotlessly clean and well appointed, and the camp sites are all on lush grass and have clean ablution blocks and power. As a real bonus, they have a beautiful swimming pool with clear water. The following morning, it was obvious that the place is well managed, as there were smartly dressed staff around the grounds tending to maintenance. A very nice touch is the availability of ready meals in reception that can be microwaved, along with wine and beer to purchase. Highly recommended.

A beautiful place with fine ablution block in a safe environment.
I was however a bit put off by the fact that I had to pay Pula45 to be able to hook-up our fridge/freezer to electricity. For the same amount I could buy 122 units of electricity in Cape Town. Our household does not even use half of that for a full 24 hour day. It did not see this anywhere on your website. Please make it clear that electricity is extra over and above camping fees.

Good day retiredsir, Thank you so much for your high rating of us here at Woodlands Stop Over & Lodge and for your lovely review as well. So glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We also appreciate your comments about the power and wish to apologise for the fact that it is so expensive. Sadly, the cost of our power in Botswana has gone twice in the last few months and with the fact that we went through very harsh times last year we have to watch the usage of it very closely. We, too, are horrified at the cost and have had to switch off our huge 4x4 meter freezer and 4x4m fridge facilities together with many other units using electricity in order to "march time" with the ever rising costs and slow income for us. We will take your advice and see how to best add this information to our website -- on the website we just make reference to the fact that power and water facilities are available on the camping sites. It is, however, not included in the camping fees. But all our email communication going out to our guests when they book clearly states that it is an extra charge. We do sincerely hope that this will not prevent you from visiting and staying with us again. We do so appreciate both your support and your comments. Kind regards, Mike & Anne West (Owners)

Super neat, tidy and the attention to detail in the rooms are impeccable. The hosts thought of everything, from coffee and cookies in our room to braai kits that can be purchased at reception. We where delighted to see bush babies right in front of our stoep. We only stayed a night as a stop over, but would definitely stay longer for future trips!
