The name of this resort has changed to Clever's Lakeside Resort from Norma Jeane. The new owners are currently giving the rooms a new modern look and it actually feels nice. The beds are very comfortable and water is available all day long. When there is no electricity the generator is switched on around 6, I think. The gardens are lush green with beautiful flowers, trees and an evergreen lawn. The staff follow covid 19 safety protocols from the moment you park your car and you feel quite safe. Breakfast was ok but I feel that charging $8 if one opts for a cereal only breakfast when there isn't a wide range of choice of cereal is a bit baffling.
Overally, a great place to stay if you want some quiet time to relax and unwind. The room prices were also great as it was a holiday special.

When you stay at Norma Jean's you go back to a bygone era of discrete and slightly formal comfort and service. Memories of an Africa that once was. A magnificent old style sitting room with open fires for chilly nights and a formal dining room serving good home cooked food - the bream was memorable - quietly served by waiters in black jackets and bow ties. The gardens are wonderful and exotic and must take a lot of work. But the views across Lake Mutirikwe (Kyle as was) to the mountains are stunning.
We were there to visit the Great Zimbabwe ruins which we had been to on our honeymoon many years ago. Nothing had changed except there is now an excellent museum where you can see the Great Zimbabwe birds and the detailed history of this amazing place. The Great Enclosure is impressive with its strange towers and huge stone walls but the most impressive part is the Citadel or Hill Complex which is the oldest part of the complex. It's a long hot trudge to the top of the high fortified koppie but well worth it to explore the mysterious passages and enclosures surrounded by high thick stone walls and for the view of the plains below and the lake.
If you are in the area don't stay at the big impersonal hotels, support Norma Jean's and help maintain a wonderful tradition.

Norma Jean's was clean, comfortable and affordable with different accommodation options (camping, budget and lodges) . Food was great and having drinks on the verandah overlooking their gardens and the lake was a highlight. It was super hot, so having a fan and mosi nets would have made it perfect. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Had trouble paying with Visa card, so worth keeping that in mind. We enjoyed the scenic drive around the lake too.

Arriving after a long drive, tired and cold having fled from out tented camp by unseasonal weather, Clevers provided us with a much-needed welcome. The staff are courteous, efficient and kind, and this benevolent country house hotel, with its beautiful garden, has maintained reassuringly high standards in a world where courtesy is too often understood as old-fashioned. Some might argue that the hotel is too much of a period piece, but there is little that a good interior designer could not subtlety alter to quietly introduce a hint of the best in Zimbabwean design.

We came here to camp, after reading really good reviews. We found that the campsite is under new management, now called Clevers Lakesite Resort and Conference Centre. The newly built conference centre is actually on top of some of the campsite, and the other campsites had piles of gravel and deep construction vehicle tyre tracks across them. There was an ablution block with an incredibly slippery floor. I'm sure it will be a nice conference centre, but it is no longer a campsite. We camped on a random patch of grass, and left early.

Spent 3 nights at this Lakeside Resort which is 36 km south of Masvingo. A lovely hotel on a hill overlooking Lake Mtirikwe. Places of interest include the dam wall and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. A great place to unwind with family & friends. Good for conferences.

We were a party of 7 and stayed over for one night at the main house. The house was very clean and had everything that we required for our stay. The beds were comfortable, with lovely linen and the staff were happy and pleasant. We would strongly recommend this place as (even though the decor is "oldish") its a lovely place to stay. well done!!

This camp ground is ok - pleasantly shady for the most part. There is only one toilet block (unisex) which can get very busy if a tour bus is on site, but you get a full "bathroom" in each cubicle - shower or tub + sink+ toilet. Very clean toilets. A new toilet block is being built; this should help in the future. The owner has dogs that run about unleashed - one of them urinated on my tent in the night Very annoying. Didn't use the dining room but it looked very nice.

First things first, the views and gardens are breathtaking (calling it a resort is far too liberal, more like last resort).

We visited recently for a two night stay as we had seen this place mentioned in numerous places. We knew the decor would be tired and the location secluded but we at least expected customer services and a quality of food that matched the eye watering prices.

The staff were disinterested and seemed like we were an inconvenience. Smiles were hard to come by and good morning was met with grunts or mumbles - couldn’t workout which. We only saw the owners once (fleetingly). The food. The food. It was caught in a time warp. Over cooked, under inspiring. It was truly abysmal with the fish bake constituting it’s lowest moment; a close second being the green pineapple cheese cake.

The positive was that our big room had views of Lake Mutirikwe and you could watch the sunrise from your own private veranda. The WiFi was also better that most places we visited in Zimbabwe.

If you enjoy bible quotes on your menus or service with a shrug, this is the place for you!

This place really needs an overhaul – or at least a big vacuum and spring clean. Our cottage (no. 4) had a very musty smell, and as the carpets are only swept with a broom there obviously is layer upon layer of dust in them. It is comfortable enough, but in our cottage the sofa springs had gone and the beds were hard. Strangely, the small rooms with a nice view are much more expensive (for two people) than a 3brm cottage.

Annoyingly, we were told beforehand that transport to the ruins and the damn would be no problem, but on arrival we were told that the guy who normally drives people around was on holiday that week, and we had to fend for ourselves. We had planned to have one day at Great Zimbabwe ruins and one day at the dam wall/church. Fortunately we managed to get a Kombi to the ruins and hitch a ride back, but we gave up on going to the damn after waiting ¾ hour for anything to go past. It’s a very quiet part of the world – apparently the wait for a kombi can be up to three hours! If you don't have your own vehicle, both places would probably be walkable for younger people if you got really stuck, however one of us was 75 years old.

On the plus side, the Great Zimbabwe ruins are wonderful, and were certainly a highlight of Zimbabwe for us. The gardens at Norma Jeans are wonderful, though the views of the lake from the cottages would be vastly improved by cutting just a few tree branches. The food at the restaurant is excellent, and staff are friendly.
