At first glance the hotel seems very welcome and friendly, but I would recommend anyone to rather go stay at the Bay View Hotel that is cheaper, but in every way much better.

The Protea rooms are sufficient to stay in, but I would prefer a gas station pie to anything on their extremely overpriced menu. Not only shall reception try to justify and argue any complaint you have, but the chef will also snicker behind your back whist you walk away after giving him your inedible plate food.

After my experience I shall try my best never to stay here again.

We stayed here two days. Nice friendly receptionist helped to sort out my photography permit for Kolmanskop.

Glass in the entrance had been smashed, glass in our bathroom had been smashed.

The room was fine with a nice hot shower.

We asked for laundry to be done. It appeared the next day, lovely. The phone rang. Can you pay your laundry bill now?
Hammering on the door. Laundry payment please. Now.

Went down to dinner. They handed us a large menu and recommended the kingklip . It turned out they recommended the kingklip because the kingklip was the only thing on the menu. After we pushed and the chef was consulted I managed to secure bangers and mash. The kingklip came with uncooked chips.

At the end of the meal we were asked to pay the bill! But we are staying in the hotel. Pay the bill please now.

Having been up early to photograph Kolmanskop at dawn we went to bed . Ring ring. Hello can you please pay your hotel bill.

I put the phone down.

If you decide to stay here I recommend:

1. You really like kingklip
2. You have armfuls of ready cash handy to pay as you go
3. You enjoy random phone calls and knocks on the door.

This hotel is past its sell by date! The loo flush didn't work and the food choice was so limited in the restaurant that I had to settle for my third choice - fish and chips - which were far from hot. The staff were indifferent and the service just happened with no effort. The restaurant overlooks the smallish swimming pool so the room seems quite humid. Although the bed was comfortable and she sheets clean, I cannot recommend this hotel at all!

Dear SJG0142 I would like to sincerely apologise for your experience at Protea Hotel Sea-View Zum Sperrgebiet. The flushing system problem you highlighted has already been attended to and the restaurant service issues are being addressed and further training will be provided. I am however heartened that you found the bed comfortable and the linen very clean. I would like to reassure you that I take your comments very seriously and I am confident that next time you pay us a visit you will be pleasantly surprised. Kind Regards Moyo Singabantu General Manager Protea Hotel Sea-View Zum Sperrgebiet

I didn't stay at this hotel but the whole booking experience is very bad and very poor. I had to send 1 email more than once to make a booking. Even after calling countless times, I still could not get my booking invoice sent to me. David said on call that he will respond to my email and send the booking confirmation but never did. Promises not kept.

This has to be sorted out as it is not acceptable to have to wait for so long for a booking to be made, even after several emails and calls are made.

If I'm treated like this during the booking process, I wonder how is the service on site.
Very unhappy with the very poor service.

I expected better. We booked into a Protea hotel, expecting a basic good standard. We were not pleased.
The rooms are ok, they are clean but it was not special.
There was no shef, therefore no meals.

If possible, check into into another hotel.

This has to be the worst hotel I have ever experienced. I could not believe how it had deteriorated in 4 years since we last visited. Rooms for little kids allocated on different floors to parents. Management drunk on our arrival and he never came back during our 2 day stay there. Rooms in an appalling state. Water running through the ceiling in our bathroom so that we could not even use it. Curtain rails falling off the wall. Rooms not made up the following day and we were told the staff only work 1/2 days at weekends so there was no one to do it in the afternoon. Swimming pool green with things floating in it. Overall a disgrace to the Protea name and I will never go back to this hotel again!!!

authentic old building, spacious room, some equipped with a balcony, good breakfast, helpful staff, wifi, checkin until very late,
parking space is limited though so we had to squeeze in a corner just behind the gate

Although the Directory of Services in the room still indicates Protea Hotels, they are not part of Protea Hotel any more. No hot water, hairdryer doesn't work, no hand towels, very few TV channels with bad reception (snowy). It is a 4 level hotel with no lifts. No or very little maintenance. Only positive was the food that was excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is ideally situated. Walking distance away from "waterfront development"the best coffee shop in town, shopping center, laundry service and overlooking the quaint habour of Luderitz.

The facility is relatively new and conforms to the Protea standards that one has become used to.

The staff is friendly and is trying their best to keep the guests comfortable, however, one finds the attention to detail, as far as the running of the hotel is concerned, lacking.

Examples of the above:
Only two of advertised 6 TV channels is working.
Breakfast service without jam or any fresh fruits.
Dinner menu and standard of food is very basic without any finesse. We chose to dine outside (other options in Luderitz are very limited)
